to think that people who choose to have more children whilst living in social housing shouldn't expect to be given a bigger place?

I am a member of another pregnancy forum and there is a woman there who has just had her 5th child (by choice). Neither her nor her partner work and she is complaining that the council will not giver them a bigger house (she is in a 3 bed). All the other members are sympathising with her but I don't understand why. Surely if you choose to have a child when you know your home is not big enough, you shouldn't expect the council to give you a bigger one, especially when it is sought after subsidised housing?

I don't see what's wrong with cream, then jam, then more cream?

usualsuspect · 09/06/2012 19:09

I blame Maggie Thatcher

BellaOfTheBalls · 09/06/2012 19:09

Oh here we go, it's all the polish taking our houses, jobs, benefits....

SuperTressy · 09/06/2012 19:10

YANBU, but I think the title of the thread should be:

to think that people who choose to have more children whilst not working and living in social housing shouldn't expect to be given a bigger place?

usualsuspect · 09/06/2012 19:10

And eating all our scones

nailak · 09/06/2012 19:10

doggie those who live in council houses still have to pay the rent every month? Hmm

TheVermiciousKnid · 09/06/2012 19:10

Always a good idea, usualsuspect.

doggiemumma · 09/06/2012 19:10

oh and another thing usual suspect, im sorry, i dont want to appear to be picking on you but its cream them jam ffs!!!

WhiteWidow · 09/06/2012 19:10

I guess that's aimed at me bella? If so, I never said anything bad about immigration, I was stating a fact that obviously we're going to need more houses as people living here increases Confused

usualsuspect · 09/06/2012 19:11

No butter,jam cream

You sound entitled to me, doggie

MarySA · 09/06/2012 19:11

I know lots of folk who live in Council houses and Housing Association houses that don't milk the system. And they don't have a sense of entitlement. So I think all this popcorn and cake stuff is more than a little silly.

UnChartered · 09/06/2012 19:11

french polish?

and it's butter, then jam, then cream Hmm

LST · 09/06/2012 19:11

Doggie - My council house is in a nice quiet area. Not all areas are bad Hmm
And also I struggle each month to find my rent. I hate how people assume people in council houses have it easy..

CrispyCod · 09/06/2012 19:12

FFS everyone knows you only get a council house these days if you're a forriner otherwise you go to the bottom of the list.

My 5 bed HA home is £139 a week. Apparently once I have been here a year I get the option to buy it!!

It's a new build so I'm first one in it. Why ate they so keen to have you buy?

HexagonalQueenOfTheSummer · 09/06/2012 19:12

I'd say a 3 bedroom house is sufficient for a family with 5 children

MarySA · 09/06/2012 19:12

Oi. I'll have it back. I'm on a diet anyway.

morethanpotatoprints · 09/06/2012 19:13

Those who live in council houses shouldn't throw stones (is that right?)
Oh, unless they are entitled.

NettoSuperstar · 09/06/2012 19:13

I'm in Social Housing, I get to watch constant police outside my window, moreso this week, as two men were arrested for murder.
They poured petrol through someone's letterbox, killing a man and his two children, the wife survived.
It's lovely here.
I bet you're all jealous.

doggiemumma · 09/06/2012 19:13

nailak i DO know that! im not an idiot, read my post, i think you'll find i qualified what i said. It the security i envy, the knowing you wont have someone knocking on your door if you dont make yoru monthly repayments (this has happened to us just this month for £100 mortgage arrears), i envy the potential home for life. But for all the other reasons i don't want a council home. I also said i ENVY i do not resent, that is quite different. Resent is what the OP is doing.

LST · 09/06/2012 19:14

I'm in a 2 bed at the mo. And when we TTC no.2 they will be sharing. I don't expect to be rehoused. If it turns out to be another DS then the bedroom could even stay blue Grin

usualsuspect · 09/06/2012 19:14

You can get evicted for not paying your rent from a council house.

LST · 09/06/2012 19:16

House for life is applied loosely doggie of you don't abide by rules and pay your rent and council tax on time the bailiffs will be knocking on our door too.. Angry
