To ask why some people think McDonalds is the devils food?

What have some people got so against it?

I use macdonalds not so much as a treat but more when I really cannot be bothered or we're back really late which usually comes once a month. Everytime I go it's always really busy, weekends it's absolutely full of kids so people must be eating it and they're not all dead/obese/chav scum. So why is it so frowned upon by some?

OP posts:
CockyPants · 08/06/2012 13:01

Panda of course I do!!
I'm sure some of the anti mcdo posters on here are lousier mums than the pro mcdo mums. And vice versa.
It's personal choice.
Dd shoving a mcdo burger in her mouth vs crack cocaine?
Bit of a no brainer, IMHO.

Mopswerver · 08/06/2012 13:01

Fosh No they simply think the attacks on them outweigh their crimes.

Agree with you that it is impossible to always provide highly nutritious meals and don't see the problem with parents occasionally visiting McD's.

LurkingAndLearningForNow · 08/06/2012 13:01

I don't understand why Hungry Jacks, KFC etc etc don't receive the same flack? It's all the same delicious garbage.

Noqontrol · 08/06/2012 13:02

Good post foshizzle.

Foshizzle · 08/06/2012 13:04

Lurking, because - as Wotnow pointed out earlier - the OP asked about McDonalds.

Rockpool · 08/06/2012 13:05

I agree with Fosh I'm not bashing parents,I'm bashing McDonalds. They're masters at shifting their shite globally.

Katiepoes · 08/06/2012 13:12

Then don't go there, and don't call my lunch shite if you don't mind.

Mopswerver · 08/06/2012 13:14

No, she asked why McD's was frowned upon. The answers naturally reference other similar outlets otherwise the answers would be: "because some people think their food is rubbish". Isn't it fair to question why it is targetted in particular? question other similar choices? (goes hoarse from repeating self!)

summerintherosegarden · 08/06/2012 13:18

Thank you foshizzle !

Two things that most posters seem to be ignoring

  1. The OP asked why some people dislike McD's, NOT any other fast food chains
  2. An attack on McD's is NOT an attack on people who eat there!
Foshizzle · 08/06/2012 13:21

Fair enough. Well I think I answered what my problem was with McDonalds in particular in my first post on this thread. Read the litigation. Or a summary.

As far as the food is concerned, no, it is no different from other fast food outlets. That doesn't make it good.

LurkingAndLearningForNow · 08/06/2012 13:25

Sorry I wasn't being inflammatory, it's just I'm new and I saw a few posts mentioning that Maccas has been targetted before, I was just curious. Confused

I personally find Maccas food makes me feel ill. I love KFC chicken however but can't stomach fast food burgers because of the sugar content in the bread due to my hormonal problems. I prefer savoury to sweet! Though I think in these cases they probably dip the meat in sugar...

I am a terrible mother, it has to be said. My son doesn't even really like MacDonald's leaves 3/4 of his happy meal uneaten, we only take him because it has a play section to keep him occupied for a few minutes of peace.

2shoes · 08/06/2012 13:29

I don't think they are shite, as a sometimes meal they are okish.
I think most parents go through a stage when their kids want them as an specila thing.
then they grow out of it.

Foshizzle · 08/06/2012 13:29

Sorry Lurking - I wasn't meaning to sound chippy.

I'm sure if you started a thread about KFC it would get just as lively... Wink

AmberLeaf · 08/06/2012 13:39

I'm not defending mcdonalds. I also don't feel my parenting skills are being attacked, I've been speaking about my mcds consumption.

I'm shocked you're shocked at people saying its not so bad (in moderation) its not like mcds aren't busy is it? And its certainly not all teens and chavs eating there (as someone implied upthread) or all obese people.

Guess where I am? I'm sitting in mcdonalds, all this talk of burgers I just fancied one!

I've finished eating now and am surveying the clientle, bar 2 pregnant women I'm probably the 'fattest' person in here (I'm a size 16 hourglass) no sign of any obese people.

Mixed bunch in here, fair amount of youngsters being half term.

I had a medium big mac meal with diet coke (I never drink normal coke anyway)

Everything in moderation.

LurkingAndLearningForNow · 08/06/2012 13:40

Lively or incite mass hunger? Grin

Foshizzle · 08/06/2012 13:50

Good point. I suspect the unintended consequence of this thread is a mexican wave of McD cravings...

Wotnow, that is why I pointed you to the litigation. A factual account of all that is wrong with McDonalds.

Foshizzle · 08/06/2012 13:59

Sorry - thought that was directed at me!

AlexReidsLonelyBraincell · 08/06/2012 15:03

I could really go a Chicken Legend with Sprite right now. :)

pattercakes · 08/06/2012 15:47

I have never eaten in a MacD but they do good business near me.

ivykaty44 · 08/06/2012 18:01

There was an article somewhere recently that I read about how mcd's differs in portion size depending on where in the world you eat a mcd's. In the USA the french fries are twice the portion of a french fries portion in Paris, and the UK portion size is also different.

That to me is dubious pratice as if a product is a product why is it not the same in each country?
