to use bondage tape on dd and dsd?

Rachog · 05/06/2012 22:21

Dd and dsd both 4 are into the little mermaid at the moment. Dd found a Christmas stocking in the toy box and was wearing it like a fin.

This of course caused arguments because dsd wanted a fin too. I remembered that I had a roll of pink bondage tape in the grown up toy box so I used it to bind their legs from knee to ankle leaving their feet Aw flippers.

The girls were made up with their mermaid tails and had lots of fun but when dp came in he was less than impressed.

The tape is like punk plastic on a roll that sticks to itself but not clothes or skin. It's quite flexible and easily torn to remove it.

So was I being unreasonAble?

I just cant get worked up about this. It's tape.

youarekidding · 07/06/2012 21:34

AF no need to apologise because we disagree on some points. (although I get it wasn't an actual apology iyswim!) I respect you disagree - and because you are polite and reasonable and back up your arguments with fact it's easy to take your points on board and see how and why you think that way.

My DS (7) said something about sex the other day. I asked him if he knew what sex is. He doesn't so he's been told he shouldn't discuss things unless he knows what they are. If he had asked me he would have got the version suitable for a 7yo. He didn't so obviously was just using a word he's heard.

It is clear from this thread some people see 'bondage' tape as a sex toy, others don't. I suspect some people hang their lingerie on the washing line, on radiators where their children see it - some (me!) would not. For me a sex toy is something that is used to simulate a sexual part of the body - eg vibrator because it's use is solely for sexual pleasure.

dittany because it's also sold as clothing, plumbing tape, craft tape etc but with different packaging. I think some people are looking at the packaging/ marketing and others at its intended use. Neither POV is right.

squeakytoy · 07/06/2012 21:37

I would like Op to take a photo of the packaging that the bondage tape came in and put it on her profile

why? she didnt show the packaging to the children, she just showed them pink tape that they could turn into mermaid fins.... Hmm

this tape is made on a production line, and gets put into lots of different packaging... but it is still the same product once the packet is opened... tape.

Just like a willy shaped chocolate is still just chocolate... if you grated it onto the top of your cupcake, and fed it to your child, would you be feeding them a "sex toy". Actually some of you would probably think so... and then get in a frenzy trying to work out if it was better to be more outraged about the fact it was a grated cock, or just the fact that it was chocolate! Wink

WorraLiberty · 07/06/2012 21:38

Some of the posts on here are disgusting...bordering on sick actually.

These are two innocent little girls playing at being Mermaids.

Some people would do well to remember that.

'Sex toys being used on his Daughters' indeed Hmm

Bondage tape is not a sex toy. It's used as a sex aid but then I'm quite sure that wouldn't have added such 'shock value' to that post.

AnyFucker · 07/06/2012 21:39

"bondage" tape packaged and marketed as such is just what it says on the tin

to say otherwise is disingenuous

not a safe link if there are children around

which kinda upholds my point

squeakytoy · 07/06/2012 21:43

spot the difference anyone....

safe link even if the budgie is around

TantrumsAndBalloons · 07/06/2012 21:44

If it wasn't designed to be used as a sexual aid, toy whatever the op would not have had it in her adult toy box and her DP would not have been "unimpressed"

It is something they use as part of sex, not something they use to hold knitting needles together.
That's why the ops DH clearly found it a bit strange.

And why I do too.

garlicfanjo · 07/06/2012 21:44

Look, here is a product page for the stuff.

Middlemen buy it and package the same stuff for different uses.

FFS, I might get some and sell it as mermaid legs for children.

but Tantrums.. the product was not designed as a sexual aid, the packaging IS. Just like massage oil is exactly the same as baby oil but in a more expensive bottle... it all comes from the same place to begin with.

squeakytoy · 07/06/2012 21:47

If the kids were running around with anal probes as fairy wands, I could understand the hysteria, but they werent...

WorraLiberty · 07/06/2012 21:47

No dittany the adults making vile posts about two innocent little girls having 'sexy toys used on them' would do bloody well to remember that!

WorraLiberty · 07/06/2012 21:47

*sex

TantrumsAndBalloons · 07/06/2012 21:48

But the op bought and uses it as a sexual aid.

She didn't buy it to hold together knitting needles or whatever.

If she had, if it was pink gaffer tape, there would be no need for this thread would there?

AnyFucker · 07/06/2012 21:49

is that a "joke" squeaky ?

like the "butt plug as horsey tail" joke

it's not funny

by a very large margin

squeakytoy · 07/06/2012 21:50

Let suppose the OP had a first aid kit and nurses uniform in her "adult toy box", with real plasters in there, and one of the kids cut her knee... would it be better to let her bleed, or would it be acceptable to put one of the plasters on her knee... even if they were "pink adult toy box plasters"....

I would love to hear the replies to that one...

fuck me, this thread is weird, vile, funny and weird in equal amounts

I dont think I would have used the tape myself, because in the back of my mind, its intended use would be there, but thats me - i don't have a problem that the OP did so.

garlicfanjo · 07/06/2012 21:53

Is there a "need" for this thread?

I had the impression Rachdog was pretty pleased with her mermaid-leg solution and somewhat amused by DH's initial response. I didn't et any angst from it - well, not until people showed offence.

I'm afraid I do see the offended replies as dirty-minded. It is TAPE, the purpose for which it was sold is irrelevant ... unless that purpose more important to you than giving some kids a harmless product for their imaginative play.

TantrumsAndBalloons · 07/06/2012 21:53

To be fair squeaky that's a completley different scenario and not even comparable is it?

Bluegrass · 07/06/2012 21:53

I think I understand, OP committed thoughtcrime. She needed to go into a shop and buy it once thinking sexythoughts. She then needed to buy the exact same product in a different wrapper thinking forgodssakewillnoonethinkofthechildren thoughts.

God forbid once she got home she mix up the two different tapes, as one bears the taint of sex and must not be exposed to children's flesh lest it melt them. The other tape is fine but if used during sex leads to willy wilt.

Thank god for MN!

garlicfanjo · 07/06/2012 21:54

Good point well made, squeaky, about the nurse kit!

squeakytoy · 07/06/2012 21:54

I would say it was quite comparable really. So what would be your opinion on that scenario. Assuming the adults used the plasters for their "adult play".
