to hate the term 'full time mother'?

Seriously, this really gets my goat. I work. I have worked most of my childrens lives. I like the work I do and choose to work nights so I don't miss out on things like sports days etc, just miss out on sleep.
This does not make me a part time mother!! I never stop being a mum and putting my kids first for a second!
Also, their dad 'babysitting' while I work. Does that mean I babysit while he is at work?

competitive bragging and highly international
priceless
conjures up images of well to do alpha mums able to say "housewife" and "canapés" in five languages

TandB · 05/06/2012 21:58

My two children both speak and write seven languages, although the 5 month-old's vocabulary could use some work.

At nearly three, DS1 plays the double bass, the oboe and the comb-and-paper to concert standard, while DS2 is developing a charming singing voice.

DS1 writes quite surprising poetry and DS2 is shaping up to be a talented little playwright.

This is all down to me. Even when I am at work, I use my superior telepathic skills to continue to impart my wisdom and skill to the DSs via direct ind-link. When I am at home, I actually have to stay in a different room to the children at all times, lest my general wonderfulness cause them to explode.

I win.

SAHM or WOHM. None of you can match me so you all might as well give up and let your children slide into sloth and illiteracy.

Hope that helps.

scottishmummy · 05/06/2012 22:00

my children first word was money not mummy
in 8 languages and klingon

TheTeaPig · 05/06/2012 22:00

Snort
Erm- you forgot their kungfu skills Grin

Jinsei · 05/06/2012 22:01

Ah but scottishmummy, were you there to hear those precious first words, or were you out at work? Wink

scottishmummy · 05/06/2012 22:02

hell no the trilingual staff phoned me at work
precious moments in 8 languages

TandB · 05/06/2012 22:03

Scottishmummy - your children should go to our nursery. DS1's keyworker apparently asked him if she was speaking Klingon after he persistently ignored her recently.

She might have got a better response out of your kids. DS1 predictably enough ignored her.

Teapig - I didn't want to brag.

BetterChoicesChair · 05/06/2012 22:04

Ouch Bonsoir/Jinsei. Not helping the cause. Are you for real?

My 7 year old son is still working on grasping reading and writing in ENGLISH (his first language). He's a pretty smart little dude but, you know, he likes to play and climb trees and stuff Wink.

Nobody should smother mother their children full-time, no matter your lifestyle choice. Jeez Louise, there are so many other things to do in life Smile.

Kungfu- You win. That was awesome Grin.
SM-Nice! I knew there was a sense of humour lurking under there somewhere Grin.

TheTeaPig · 05/06/2012 22:06
Grin
TandB · 05/06/2012 22:08

I should probably confess at this point that I have a basic grasp of an unusual (in the UK) European language. I briefly considered whether I should make the effort to teach DS1.

Unfortunately I decided that I just could not be arsed.

scottishmummy · 05/06/2012 22:09

kungfu,i implore take your G&T klingon speaking son to a reassuringly more expensive nursery.one simply must have obsequious staff and telephone number fees to compensate our children for their absent mums

Jinsei · 05/06/2012 22:19

Ouch Bonsoir/Jinsei. Not helping the cause. Are you for real?

Well, my dd does indeed speak three languages, and I know plenty of others who are equally multilingual, but I had intended a heavy dose of irony in my posts, so please don't take me too seriously. Wink

And I wouldn't take bonsoir's particular brand of competitive parenting too seriously either. Grin

TandB · 05/06/2012 22:28

Bollocks to that, Scottishmummy. I'm on statutory maternity pay at the moment. It's all Cheap-Childcare-R-Us right now.

When I am working again I might consider upgrading him. But only if he shows signs of above-average intelligence obviously. No point wasting money on a mere monolingual child.

scottishmummy · 05/06/2012 22:32

inevitably those who cannot speak 8 languages and klingon will be disadvantaged, now and in future ventures.nor will they be internationally mobile or double jointed or adept with glitter

FayeGovan · 05/06/2012 22:59

you've got the last word in there sm

what have you been putting in your irn bru tonight?

tinkerbel72 · 05/06/2012 23:39

< runs away quickly! >

tinkerbel72 · 05/06/2012 23:42

Hilarious... The level of wit is clearly far superior among WOHM
< runs away fast >

YouOldSlag · 05/06/2012 23:43

Heard you the first time Tink.

Personally as a SAHM of lower wit all I can say is BOLLOCKS
Smile

YouOldSlag · 05/06/2012 23:44

PS when it's late and I am a bit delirious with fatigue I get all daring and that.

FootballFriendSays · 06/06/2012 08:48

:) great fun

Ormiriathomimus · 06/06/2012 16:51

My eldest can do armpit farts the like of which are unheard of in inter-stellar circles let alone international ones.

peanutbutter38 · 06/06/2012 19:42

off topic, but did you know that if you stick the end of a straw under your armpit and blow into the other end of the straw it will make the best and loudest fart noises ever!

MammaTJ · 07/06/2012 00:09

Ishoes, this is certainly NOT intended as a sahm bashing thread. I have no problem with people choosing to/be lucky enough to be able to stay at home with their children. I did state that by the same token as I hate the term full time mother, I would not say that those who stay at home do not work. Not quite sure how that bashes you!

OP posts:
MammaTJ · 07/06/2012 00:12

peanutbutter-off to find a straw to check that out!

OP posts:
FayeGovan · 07/06/2012 18:09

mamm, IME the vast majority of women who stay at home do so because they can't afford childcare for 2 or more kids

they have NO CHOICE and they sure don't feel lucky.....
