to think that a giant Range Rover with 'Overfinch' emblazoned on the back is the definition of 'twatmobile'

Was cycling down the road earlier, saw one of these things go by

I know lots of people say they need Range Rovers to cope with the pot holes, or the snow, or the pedestrians, or whatever things.

But let's be honest, they are big hulking lumps of metal that would tip over if you drove them too fast.

And on that basis paying £90k for a souped up one

www.overfinch.com/buying-an-overfinch/view-current-stock/

and then a further £5k or so for a personalised number plate just makes you look stupid.

Doesn't it?

(Just want to add I have nothing against fast cars, if you're going to get an Aston Martin or whatever, fine.....

But souping up a vehicle supposedly designed to drive up unmade roads. I mean why????)

YANBU naffo

squeakytoy · 29/05/2012 23:49

cant be arsed to click on the link, but if you can afford one, and you want one, then I dont see the problem in having one...

PacificDogwood · 29/05/2012 23:49

YANBU

I'd like to think that if I had enough moulah to purchase one of these - I wouldn't.
Just no.

bronze · 29/05/2012 23:50

Yanbu

If you need something for practical reasons you would get a landy anyway ( I miss ours but no longer living on a farm means it was no longer necessary)

Birdsgottafly · 29/05/2012 23:51

It might make you look stupid, but if you can afford one, i don't think that you would care.

They are my 'lottery win' vehicle of choice.

If there isn't a good reason to need one, i would invent one.

nancy75 · 29/05/2012 23:51

I think it would take more than a bit of fast driving to tip one over

NannyPlumIsMyMum · 29/05/2012 23:52

They are called " land raiders " round here.

IAmBooybilee · 29/05/2012 23:54

meh, it's personal preference. their money's their business. it doesn't really register on my radar. why is it on yours?

bronze · 29/05/2012 23:55

I'm sure I wrote bog standard landy

Birdsgottafly · 29/05/2012 23:55

Btw, knock it all you want, but it's bringing much needed employment to Liverpool at the moment, so for that reason alone i hope people keeping buying them.

NannyPlumIsMyMum · 29/05/2012 23:56

You could ask why is anything on somebody's radar... It's just initiating a "chat" isn't it?

curiousgeorgie · 29/05/2012 23:56

I always wanted to know what 'Overfinch' was :p

sarahseashell · 29/05/2012 23:58

you could probably run over a few finches in it if so inclined

IAmBooybilee · 30/05/2012 00:00

oh not having a go nanny, just genuinely interested why OP is bothered by it as it isn't something i notice or think about.

toboldlygo · 30/05/2012 00:06

Wrong, the definition of twatworthy is having 'Powered by Fairydust' emblazoned on your car. Or any one of a multitude of mum's taxi, little angel on board signs etc.

Everyone in my family covets Overfinch landies as it involves our surname. None of us can afford one though so we're just wannabe twats. Grin

Birdsgottafly · 30/05/2012 00:10

Landrover are one of the few employers paying over min wage in the North West at present, everyone is applying there.

Thank fuck there are lots of twats out there.

Heavensmells · 30/05/2012 00:11

Tis my lottery win car of choice too.
A big white one which I will accessorise with huge sunglasses (for myself obv not the car)
I am not a twat

IAmBooybilee · 30/05/2012 00:14

i just clicked the link. god those are ugly cars!

serin · 30/05/2012 00:17

Birdsgottafly; I agree.

Their profits are up and they are employing local people of every age group.

They are a real hope for hundreds of people here.

WhippingGirl · 30/05/2012 00:19

Yanbu. I hate them and they are unnecessary. Car park at gymnastics jammed with them today. We live in a city and they were too clean to justify any off roading

Poulay · 30/05/2012 00:24

I think people justify them by saying there are potholes, or speed bumps, or something. Fuck knows really.

Basically the thing is what they need is what Americans call minivans. But they are terminally uncool, so they get 4x4s instead. Although to be fair, minivans do cost about 50p in the US and here they cost about as much as entry-level poserwagon.

You sound bitter, Poulay.

Poulay · 30/05/2012 00:28

I don't know about bitter, but SUVs do get on my nerves. And as SUV taken to the extreme, seeing an Overfinch go by just made me think 'twat'.

FashionEaster · 30/05/2012 00:35

Have no problem with the car itself, but oft with the attitude behind the wheel.

Have seen appalling tailgating, secure that if there is a sudden stop, they're all right Jack as they plough through the car in front; and hey I can't park the thing, but it doesn't matter as I'll just berth it across two parking spaces.

HarrietSchulenberg · 30/05/2012 00:55

Can't see what bringing jobs to Liverpool has to do with the utter twatness of that car. I don't imagine that employment prospects for the North West even registers with people who drive those cars.
They say "gangster", "tasteless" or "drug-dealer" to me.
But even worse is the white Porsche 4x4 - hilariously tacky but driven by people who actually think they have a sense of style in proportion to their bank balance.
