to think that a giant Range Rover with 'Overfinch' emblazoned on the back is the definition of 'twatmobile'

Was cycling down the road earlier, saw one of these things go by

I know lots of people say they need Range Rovers to cope with the pot holes, or the snow, or the pedestrians, or whatever things.

But let's be honest, they are big hulking lumps of metal that would tip over if you drove them too fast.

And on that basis paying £90k for a souped up one

www.overfinch.com/buying-an-overfinch/view-current-stock/

and then a further £5k or so for a personalised number plate just makes you look stupid.

Doesn't it?

(Just want to add I have nothing against fast cars, if you're going to get an Aston Martin or whatever, fine.....

But souping up a vehicle supposedly designed to drive up unmade roads. I mean why????)

I'm really starting to hate these cars.. they're fucking massive and always have V6 something on the back. Utterly ridiculous for driving around rural Oxfordshire.

Wankers.

(disclaimer - it's not the massive car so much as the massive engine and the inexplicably corresponding inability to park at Waitrose)

AndFanjoWasHisNameO · 30/05/2012 01:15

Meh, we've got a sport-would have an over finch if could afford it just for the extras. Don't see what it's got to go with anyone really. I drive courteously and safely so am not a twat in that respect. I love fast powerful cars and didn't want to compromise just because I've always got a herd of kids in the back.
Am a twat in many other ways though Grin

JarethTheGoblinKing · 30/05/2012 01:24

Am interested - what's the MPG on a car like that? I'm a nerd sadly proud of my 45mpg for day to day.

If a massive V6 landrover has a descent MPG then I might well change my view on them.

tartyflette · 30/05/2012 01:52

Overfinch seem to be based in Leeds, not Liverpool. But they are fugly cars.
And the big FWD vehicles DO tip over more easily than saloons/hatchbacks/whatever, due to their higher centre of gravity. Science, innit?
If you brake hard and swerve sharply at the same time, to avoid a collision for example, then whoops, over you go.

The thread reminds me of that old joke about the difference between a Range-Rover and a hedgehog. (A hedgehog has the pricks on the outside.)

My lottery car will be an Aston Martin DBwhatever.

mumblechum1 · 30/05/2012 01:55

I could easily afford a Range Rover but would just never ever ever buy one or even hire one because ... well, just because they are horrible, along with all the other stupid ugly 4x4s which clog up the lanes around here, mostly driven by blonde women who don't know how reverse gear works or red faced estate agents who have some sort of weird superiority complex which people in properly nice cars (Aston Martins etc) just don't have.

AndFanjoWasHisNameO · 30/05/2012 01:58

Jareth it's pretty shocking- about 28 or 10 really MPG Blush

Poulay · 30/05/2012 02:00

28mpg? I take it that's a diesel.

OP posts:
JarethTheGoblinKing · 30/05/2012 02:02

Fucking HELL! So... my weekly bill of £25 would be 3 - 4 times that. Scary! Think of the polar bears!

I have to admit that my hatred of them comes from the Waitrose car park where NONE of the drivers of such vehicles seem to be able to see/park/indicate/not drive into DS Angry/or not spit on my car because they parked too close and I had to gently rest my door onto theirs and not mark it at all but create a GIANT rage in a teeny tiny red-faced man.

AndFanjoWasHisNameO · 30/05/2012 02:06

Yep diesel Poulay.
For what it's worth-I can't abide bad drivers in ANY vehicle, I think it's just more noticeable in huge cars. If you can't reverse park, get the bus!
There really is no need for the sweeping generalisations about the type of drivers. and my hair is yellow not blonde

foofooyeah · 30/05/2012 04:19

I just think footballer when I see one

NapaCab · 30/05/2012 04:33

YANBU to see such a vehicle and think 'twat'. It looks ugly as all hell and I can't see how it's practical on narrow British roads. The worst thing is getting stuck behind one and having your own visibility blighted by them... they're a pain in the neck (literally).

Glittertwins · 30/05/2012 07:07

I like them but I like souped up cars and the weight of them generally means they need more power. Most cars like this are sadly driven by people who shouldn't have been granted a licence in the first place though :(

dazzlingdeborahrose · 30/05/2012 07:36

I know what a landrover is and i know what a range rover is but what the hell is an overfinch!? Why is it different to a normal range rover? Why would you call your car after a finch? Should it not be a falcon; an eagle; an alabatross?

BarredfromhavingStella · 30/05/2012 09:27

Seriously can't believe one of these would be a lottery choice car Hmm Aston Martin, Lambo, Ferrari yes, Range Rover?? err just no.
Anyway, yes a twatmobile without a doubt along with those fucking mahoosive Audi Q whatever fucking number it is-completely annoying & I know we have some impressive potholes but I've yet to come across one that I've needed a 4x4 to negotiate Grin
Unless you off road or have a horse box to tow you do not need a 4x4!!

TiddlesTheNaughtyTortoise · 30/05/2012 09:43

agree that they are twatmobiles but since my dad works for Jaguar-Landrover I'm glad there's plenty of twats about with enough money to buy them.

Now they just need to learn to park them too.....

takingiteasy · 30/05/2012 11:33

There are loads of cars I don't like, doesn't mean the people that do like them are twats. Apart from the Porcshe Cayanne. That's a twat mobile!

Anyway, I'm a massive Landrover fan, go off roading (as in proper off roading with winches and wellies etc, not splashing through a puddle) and we own a few old Discovery's and a Series. I say own, but they aren't on the road, they live at a farm we go to play at. We use them for what they were made for and they are good at it.

All that said though, the new RangeRover is pretty ugly but people like it, it's built here in the UK and we should be proud of that at least! I can't see the Queen driving one round Balmoral though.

coraltoes · 30/05/2012 11:42

i used to have a RR sport. Just switched to a diesel Cayenne (new model). Also have a proper sports car - 2 seater though, nowhere for DD. If i gave a crap what people thought about my car choice i'd ask.

I dont hide behind excuses about pot holes or whatever. I just buy the car i like.

takingiteasy · 30/05/2012 11:45

So all 4x4 owners are twats, wankers and pricks...

Even when, in the snow, it's the local 4x4 owners clubs organising and volunteering to take meals to pensioners, peole to hospital and even the odd bride to church? Yup, load of pricks.

MrsSnaplegs · 30/05/2012 11:52

Poulay - a RR is not an SUV (Sports Utility Vehicle) its a 4x4.
Overfinch are a separate company to Landrover and do aftermarket enhancements. Both companies are UK based and employing people in this country.
I agree most people who have something like that probably don't use it for what it is intended but it is still our lottery car also.

takingiteasy Woohoo another offroader! Are you going to Bath and West show? We have a RR Classic and a Disco.

MrsSnaplegs · 30/05/2012 11:54

SUV vs 4x4 difference Grin

GentleOtter · 30/05/2012 11:55

And delivering midwives to deliver babies in the depths of winter, takingiteasy. Smile

The name is weird but if the production is keeping people in jobs, that cannot be a bad thing.
Dreadful fuel consumption.

Flightty · 30/05/2012 12:01

Yikes.

What on earth does Overfinch mean anyway? I don't understand.

There was a bit of a joke Range Rover round here for a while and someone had changed the letters on the front so it said 'Hang Over' which was quite funny
