To not have sex with my partner

Because yet again I have the most horrific shaving rash! He says he doesn't mind but I do... Now I feel silly Blush

While we're here does anyone else suffer from the BURN and HORRID ingrown hairs? How do you prevent them.. I'm sick to death.

I wish I could just go all european and not do hair removal but it makes me itchy thinking about it.

The hair keeps the sweat away from the body I think, in the same way as arm pit hair does.

valiumredhead · 30/05/2012 13:45

Sorry, xposted with whos

valiumredhead · 30/05/2012 13:46

Hair is protection - it's left over from when we were hairy all over - now we just have it covering the important bits.

Cockwomble · 30/05/2012 13:47

Just to add to the mix - I use femfresh wash on my foof as ordinary shower gel dries it all out like a bastard and I wouldn't feel clean just rinsing the old lettuce.

Controversy!

WhosPickleisThatOnion · 30/05/2012 13:52

Eyebrows stop sweat going into your eyes dont they?

Cockwomble · 30/05/2012 13:54

And eyelashes stop the flies.

In theory.

mathanxiety · 30/05/2012 15:08

Hair acts as a conduit for sweat, etc away from the body.

WhiteWidow -- not a joke, but would you be comfortable letting it grow and having it coloured? You could avoid the itching and the rash and the ingrown hair problem (unless you were sensitive to the dye) and maybe still feel 'groomed'.

Rhianna1980 · 30/05/2012 15:33

Yes armpit hair holds your sweat back and makes your pits a great place to harvest bacteria and therefore smell unless you use TCP on your private parts everyday math , that's another matter Grin

FeministPixie · 30/05/2012 15:49

I would totally dye mine turquoise for a giggle, the whole 70's bush.

WhosPickleisThatOnion · 30/05/2012 15:53

it is tempting.

Dye

They have lots of colours.

mathanxiety · 30/05/2012 16:00

The relentless focus on the bacteria and the smell shows how deep the impact of marketing and advertising has been.

You are more likely to get an infection as a result of shaving or waxing than from leaving the hair alone. The tiny cuts and abrasions left by those processes can become infected by all sorts of bacteria, including staph and MRSA.

The apocrine glands are located in the armpits, areolae, and genital area and secrete pheromones in both men and women. These scents remain on the hair there to facilitate olofactory communication.

Hair in the pits and genital area also reduces friction and irritation of those areas.

WhosPickleisThatOnion · 30/05/2012 16:10

Hiya Math.

olofactory communication - you`ll have to explain this to me.

valiumredhead · 30/05/2012 16:30

I agree with math it's becoming a habit Grin

WhosPickleisThatOnion · 30/05/2012 16:38

I also agree with math on these issues of cleaners.

I don't think they are strictly necessary. And men have hairy pits very nearly all of them. And they don't all stink to high heaven.

mathanxiety · 30/05/2012 16:43

Pheromones, Pickle. We send out biological signifiers of various sorts from various glands. In the case of the apocrine glands, what they produce carries signals about sex which can be sensed by others (and not as a bad smell but via the sense of smell, which picks up a lot more than just rotten eggs or unwashed socks, etc).

MaleLurker · 30/05/2012 16:48

Love these threads. You do realize that men don't really care? Most women do this for their own reasons, men only notice if it is too overgrown to get access.

We aren't thinking if those are two or three millimetre long pubes, or whether the percentage of smooth is higher than hairy, we are mostly thinking "Will this involve a bj" and "I hope she doesn't tell anyone I have a small willy"

Interestingly, the spartacus series on TV featured shaven willies and bushy lady parts, maybe it was covertly sponsored by a lesbian anti porn action group?

Or maybe there are just more important things to think about.

Shave or sprout, no cares as long as you get it out Wink

yellowraincoat · 30/05/2012 17:00

MaleLurker, why is it THAT important what men actually think? As if we should think "oh hallelujah, men don't actually care, I will do what I like now." And if men DO care, we should shave/not shave as men see fit.

"Shave or sprout no (one) cares as long as you get it out" - wow. I bet you're knee-deep in boob with comments like that.

yellowraincoat · 30/05/2012 17:05

I find it interesting that so many women feel cleaner without pubes. For me it's the opposite. Maybe I have an incredibly sweaty fanny but it just feels sort of sweaty and grim if it's shaved. And like the fluids just go everywhere. I found I had to wash more often.

The periods aren't really an issue, since I don't use pads and haven't for a long time.

In my pits it's the opposite though - I don't always shave them and when I don't I do feel sweatier. Why is the body so confusing?

Cockwomble - have you tried using unscented shower gel/soap like simple? I used to get thrush all the time before I realised it was the perfume in shower gel that was causing it.

Queenofsiburbia · 30/05/2012 17:06

Flipping expensive but worth every penny... Go for IPL, you'll save a fortune in the long run on waxing, and it's really amazing not having to think about that stuff ever.
I think its only worth while for bikini and or u/arm. I got myself neat & tidy but each to their own with this sort of thing!

Moominsarescary · 30/05/2012 17:07

Funny how women have been saying the same thing all through the thread yet someone with the name malelurker comes along and you jump all over them

WhosPickleisThatOnion · 30/05/2012 17:10

I think MaleLurker worded his post a bit badly to be honest.

yellowraincoat · 30/05/2012 17:11

Yes, moominsarescary, because no-one was arguing about anything before, were they?

yellowraincoat · 30/05/2012 17:12

And besides that, moominsarescary, I really resent the implication that anyone with any feminist viewpoint ever is some kind of man-hater.

Give me a break. I couldn't give a rat's arse if someone is a man or a woman, if you make a goofy post, you have to expect people to react to that.

HillyWallaby · 30/05/2012 17:13

I think many women do care what men think, YRC, and I don't think that is necessarily a bad thing - after all I would hope that most men might make half an effort to do whatever it is they think might be attractive to women (which admittedly usually just involves washing, and not farting in bed until at least date 6.) Anything more ambitious is an added bonus.

WhosPickleisThatOnion · 30/05/2012 17:14

My DP is a stinking hound and for that reason I refuse to go near him half the time!
