Because yet again I have the most horrific shaving rash! He says he doesn't mind but I do... Now I feel silly Blush

While we're here does anyone else suffer from the BURN and HORRID ingrown hairs? How do you prevent them.. I'm sick to death.

I wish I could just go all european and not do hair removal but it makes me itchy thinking about it.

I seem to have really got on your tits, Widow.

WhiteWidow · 29/05/2012 22:56

You do math, because I've never come across someone as judgemental and self righteous as yourself. Us women should be living in mud huts nd drinking our own piss it seems, whilst knitting our pubes together.

OP posts:
yellowraincoat · 29/05/2012 22:58

I think if we did a snide comment count, whitewidow, yours would be sky-high.

Do you really not believe that companies don't market to people? Of COURSE we all buy stuff, much of it pointless and needless and because we've been marketed to.

Some of us are aware of it and actually care about that though.

If you don't, great, no need to insult those of us who are interested in examining society a bit more closely.

WhosPickleisThatOnion · 29/05/2012 23:01

Really yellow as when I first came on this thread you were very rude. You have adopted a different tone yesterday and today, and we have been able to have more of a meaningful debate.

I can't see why people are pm ing you support rather than come on here and say if they agree that much. And supporting you of what exactly? As you have said you didn't really have an agenda you were interested in what makes people tick?

I'm not trying to start a barney with you on a personal level, but I have to explain why you have been getting people's backs up.

math you only really hear what you want to, I have to say.

NannyPlumIsMyMum · 29/05/2012 23:01

I really don't want bare fanjo's becoming a SN. There is too much pressure on young girls already .

I wouldn't want my DD 6 yrs to see me with a bare fanjo because I want her to believe that pubic hair is normal and acceptable .
Just as much as hairy legs are when I haven't kept on top of shaving them.

I don't keep an immaculate house either because I just don't want to role model practices that may leave her feeling pressured to look or be a certain way when she is a grown woman .

Obviously shaving fanjo's is a choice and I'm pro choice . But life will be difficult enough for DD - I want my DD to see that it's ok to have an untidy fanjo/ house/ garden etc sometimes . Yes I can tell her, but seeing it for herself will be more powerful.

WhiteWidow · 29/05/2012 23:03

Of course I believe companies market people, I know all about that (I did a s level in business studies, not that that means much but I know what Im saying is that some women feel they need them, whether they are made to think that or not. Not everything is a conspiracy.

You're talking like we're all imbeciles, like I said before we know it goes on.

OP posts:
mathanxiety · 29/05/2012 23:03

How do you know I buy soap? Or TP, or wash up liquid?

Men buy and use those items too.
This thread is about stupid things women do to themselves in order to make them more acceptable to men because they have been told men won't like them otherwise. Including at this point buying 'feminine hygiene' products that are ludicrously unnecessary.

fwiw again, I don't use soap. (Or shampoo).

WhosPickleisThatOnion · 29/05/2012 23:04

I don't think there is anything wrong with the interest you are taking, as long as you listen to other factors people take into account and tell you about when they make a decision.

FioFio · 29/05/2012 23:05

i don't buy false teeth washing up substance

WhosPickleisThatOnion · 29/05/2012 23:06

This thread isn't about that solely math. You cannot seem to believe than a woman might do certain things for reasons other than to please a man.

mathanxiety · 29/05/2012 23:07

If you knew anything at all about marketing you would not say 'some women feel they need them, whether they are made to think that or not.'

When you talk about social norms you are in this day and age talking about the influence of media (including porn) and advertising and marketing.

WhiteWidow · 29/05/2012 23:07

You were talking about being marketed to weren't you? I wasn't just narrowing it into gender specific items. Both sexes are marketed too. Like how my brother wanted a new Xbox 369, despite already having one, because it had 'elite' in its name.

No this thread wasn't about that at all, you with the help of others turned it into that. So now you're saying it's ludicrous.

OP posts:
yellowraincoat · 29/05/2012 23:07

But I don't care if I've got people's backs up. I've stated my opinion. If that annoys people, that's really their lookout. I've re-read my posts and I don't see them as rude at all. Perhaps you were reading them in a different spirit to how I intended them - it's hard to tell tone on the internet. Perhaps WhiteWidow isn't being snide.

People have got my back up as well, several times, but I don't expect them to be bothered. At the end of the day, you shut the screen and leave. It's not that big a deal.

Comments like "I HAVE to explain why you've got people's backs up" - why do you HAVE to? Out of some sort of spirit of helping me become a better person? Or is it just being a bit self-righteous?

I wouldn't call any of this a meaningful discussion. People aren't really thinking, they're just getting defensive and personal.

How do I know why people have PMed me and not joined in? Maybe they don't feel like getting told they have an agenda or they don't feel like having an argument or they are more used to discussing things in a different way. You'd really have to ask them.

NannyPlum, I completely agree with what you've written.

BelieveInPink · 29/05/2012 23:08

Moomin, I know men can get thrush etc, but it is a fact that more women suffer from these things than men. Because of the spread of bacteria amongst other things, through wiping. I do also know that wipes etc upset the natural balance, my point was I was disagreeing with Yellow about the reasons they are sold.

People don't use them because they think their fanjo is disgusting. They use them to feel clean during periods etc. Which is why there's a market for women but not for men.

WhosPickleisThatOnion · 29/05/2012 23:08

That's patronising math. You can't seem to help yourself!

WhiteWidow · 29/05/2012 23:09

Would I not math? So you're saying every woman thinks they need these products just because of marketing? Bore off.

OP posts:
WhosPickleisThatOnion · 29/05/2012 23:09

Ok so perhaps telling me I was blindingly mashing my keyboard I misconstrued.

yellowraincoat · 29/05/2012 23:11

Perhaps you did.

I personally find the phrase quite amusing, maybe it's a generational thing, it is used quite often amongst the young folks.

WhosPickleisThatOnion · 29/05/2012 23:14

Er no, I just don't like people to feel ive been personal without a reason and back up what I say.

I've got no interest in trying to make you a better person. I didn't say you were a bad person in the first place.

I think we have all agreed with nanny that we don't like to see girls feel they must shave.

But I feel I can choose to or no.

WhosPickleisThatOnion · 29/05/2012 23:15

I've never heard it before. I can't be down with the kids.

NannyPlumIsMyMum · 29/05/2012 23:17

Thanks yellow .
I don't think math has been patronising - she has imparted wisdom and knowledge.

I actually don't use soap down there and I have advised DD not to either.

WhosPickleisThatOnion · 29/05/2012 23:17

I don't think your post could have been construed as anything than rude by the way.

mathanxiety · 29/05/2012 23:19

Every single so-called original thought and preference any of us has about any product or procedure has been researched and will be used to develop future products.

'According to Meg Hargreaves, VP of Publisher Relations and Content Development for MarketResearch.com, the feminine hygiene industry, while mature, has become increasingly dynamic as it operates to recognize the changing attitudes of its consumers. ?Although marketers of feminine hygiene products have something of a captive audience, they are becoming increasingly innovative and solicitous with their product offerings and women appear to be a receptive audience for new and improved products,? said Ms. Hargreaves. According to the report, despite dissatisfaction and health concerns over many past and current products, women appear to be ready and willing to experiment with new alternatives such as feminine hygiene wipes and disposable menstrual cups . The recent proliferation of these alternative products could lead to untapped growth in the market.

Brand loyalty has long been a central feature of the feminine hygiene market, and the same major players who have dominated the market for years continue to hold on to their large market shares thanks to life-long brand loyal consumers. As the children of the baby-boomlet of the 80?s and 90?s age, marketers are tapping teen girls as a major source of potential future growth, hoping these consumers will become lifelong feminine hygiene brand loyalists'

That involves advertising and opinion formation.

When we find ourselves thinking that cleanliness of the nether region is something we need to worry about then we are indeed concerned about the only people likely to be exposed to our bits and what they think of them. Products and procedures that promise cleanliness are capitalising on insecurity and fears of being rejected by the opposite sex (or maybe even a love interest of the same sex - maybe that is the next untapped market waiting for discovery).

WhosPickleisThatOnion · 29/05/2012 23:19

Well you might not have read all of her posts then nanny. She was a a bit patronising to white widow yesterday. Well a lot. Which is why I might seem harsh to you.

She is playing a lot more nicely today though.

WhosPickleisThatOnion · 29/05/2012 23:20

Of course math yes. That is the truth.
