for wanting people to follow the rules

i am really annoyed with this. i moved from my last home for my neighbours parking their vehicles in our spaces and it got really nasty. we have since moved to a new development where there are set rules about what you can and cant do re: parking and vehicke types its ones of the reasons i bought the house. My new neighbours are basically flouting them even though they have been warned by the developer.

aibu to expect for people follow the rules that are set, and not take the piss.

its been handed to the solicitors now i hope this can be resolved ir ill be moving again.

If they parked the van across the end of your drive OP, I was call that total disregard for others. Parking a van in a carpark, in a proper parking space, not hurting anyone.....well, they probably could not even IMAGINE that anyone would be offended by that.

EXmrsmascarahead · 21/05/2012 21:09

13 pages long and I've worked it out!

OP isn't complaining because the van owner is breaking the rules it's because he's blocking her view of the p&c parking spaces that she likes to police.

BawdyStrumpet · 21/05/2012 21:09

Presumably you HAVE checked that these vans have tax and MOTs etc...

If I was them, I would go out and buy the ugliest car I could find, stack it up on bricks and spray cocks all over it.

Is that against the rules though?

You are being unreasonable, but thanks for the laugh!

If the workman came to seek my advice, I would ask for a copy of the deeds.

I would then go through the deeds with a fine tooth comb.

And ask the workman to keep a record of each and every time you contravened any of the regulations in the deeds.

And then I'd wipe the floor with you.

And you're being incredibly naive if you think that hiding behind the developer is going to keep your name out of it.

As an aside, I hope your DP's business doesn't use any vans. And park them where they shouldn't be?

AllKnickersAndNoFurCoat · 21/05/2012 21:12

Oh fucksake OP this is pathetic. I got snurky with you earlier, went away, had some dinner, ate DSs last Rollo yoghurt , came back to see you getting a properly deserved pounding and thought - I'll try reason. Reason may make her see sense. Reason and some nice homespun philosophy.

And it's made no fecking difference! You're still coming back with your badly written one liners defending yourself! Why even post on here? You don't give a shit whether you're being unreasonable or not. Bugger off and snoop on your neighbours. You are wasting my time.

DontmindifIdo · 21/05/2012 21:13

Can I just ask, if they are work vans, don't they move regularly when the owners are working? Surely they aren't there all day every day? If they return at say, 6pm, how long do you have to glimse at them now and then before you close your living room curtains for the night? If the owners replaced them with large 4X4s (which are allowed, I assume) or people carriers, would you have a vastly improved view?

It's not the view that annoys you is it? It's the fact they aren't following the rules of parking, be honest, do you think you are over sensitive to this because of your experience with your previous neighbours? Are you worried than minor rule breaking that doesnt really affect you (unless you stare out of your window for long periods and much prefer views of golfs and fiestas to vans), will be a slippery slope to parking in your space again?

I would suggest you buy some net curtains. Try to think about being neighbourly, accept that if you live in an area with a lot of people who work 'in trade' you'll have trade vans about. The idea of moving your furniture so you can't see the vans is good. It's not like a view of a carpark is ever going to be picturesque, and as you have had issues with parking, consider moving again to somewhere without a view of something you know annoys you.

Fireandashes · 21/05/2012 21:13

Why is it "totally [sic] disregard for others"? What's so heinous about owning, maintaining and parking a van that is causing such a massive inconvenience for all these "others"? Is he parking across three spaces? Is he running over the neighbours' cats in it? Is he trafficking Eastern European prostitutes who leave their condoms all over the street? Or is he simply quietly trying to make a living for himself and his family so they can continue to live in this "nice" neighbourhood?

SauvignonBlanche · 21/05/2012 21:14

I wouldn't normally comment on a poster's literacy skills but as your thread is all about following rules, it does seen ironic that you won't follow rules yourself. Hmm

My cousin is a duettist (piano). She lives in a naice house. She also has neighbours who own and park in the vicinity vans and caravans. She doesn't mind even though her house has no mortgage and lots of bathrooms.

She has a full time job as a university professor, teaches piano and performs professionally together with running a home and family. She doesn't have time on her hands to police her neighbour's van parking behaviours.

Maybe there's some ideas for you in her example, OP.

LentillyFart · 21/05/2012 21:15

Sauvignon - I asked the OP about that ages ago - and got a Biscuit for my trouble! Maybe, if you ask nicely, you'll get one too?

If I was your neighbour it wouldn't matter that I might not know which specific neighbour it was who complained (though I bet they will work it out). I would know that it's a neighbour who is close enough to see my drive/parking space so I would do stuff in that space to annoy anyone who is close enough to be annoyed. I'd buy the cheapest old banger I could find to rust away on it and be out there Sunday mornings hitting it with a spanner.

ScarlettAlexandra · 21/05/2012 21:17

Dh's business doesn't need a van. Not all people who have small businesses need one.

the rules are simple and i follow them all, you would have NO case.

i don't break rules i follow them.
