CCsgirl · 20/05/2012 14:37

Acquaintance on FB has just announced that she is " gunna be a mammy for the first time!!!!". She was with the father for 2 weeks and he is now in jail. She says as far as she is concerned her baby "dusnt av a daddy". She has been in her job for 4 weeks. 37 congratulations on her status so far. AIBU to be totally incensed that this is seen as acceptable and something to be congratulated?

I accept I am being judgy. I have deleted her as I can't bear to read the status updates every 5 minutes for the next 8 months. She is 20 years old bug believe me, is a girl, and not a woman

There's traditional and then there's...the opposite of traditional.

Not that I'd personally give a bollocks, but we know this future child is going to have worse prospects because of the set up they are born into. I'd probably raise an eyebrow before I moved on. And I think many on here would too.

Empusa · 20/05/2012 15:09

"I'm told accidents happen, I'm 34 years old and it has never happened to me?"

What a bizarre thing to say! So you only believe things happen if they happen to you?

CoteDAzur · 20/05/2012 15:09

YABU to be friends with people who would fall pregnant with some guy they know for a few weeks who is now in jail. YABU to even know someone who is so illiterate, as clearly you are so much better.

HTH.

realhousewifeofdevoncounty · 20/05/2012 15:10

Oh if an "accident" has never happened to you, then it must never happen then... Suppose you think compulsory sterilisation would be fitting for all these people who don't deserve to have children.

And fwiw, accidents do happen actually. I got pregnant when it was absolutely the last thing I wanted and was taking all the necessary precautions, but luckily as I had lots of support from all the lively people in my life, it became a positive thing and the best thing that ever happened to me.

"Oh if an "accident" has never happened to you, then it must never happen then... Suppose you think compulsory sterilisation would be fitting for all these people who don't deserve to have children."

Fucking hell, did you hurt yourself with that leap?

Hebiegebies · 20/05/2012 15:12

My Childs best friend has only one parent at home as the other is in prison

This friend is delightful, funny, kind, thoughtful. The best best friend you could hope for

YAB unbelievably U

realhousewifeofdevoncounty · 20/05/2012 15:13

Well the op clearly thinks some people cannot be trusted to use contraceptives properly. Not that much of a leap really, if accidents never happen.

peanutbutter38 · 20/05/2012 15:14

I remember being at school in the 1980's when there were one or two girls falling pregnant in their final year. It was really frowned upon and taboo.
And yes, accidents do happen, but many of these girls fall pregnant deliberately (anyone watch Jezza?) because giving birth opens doors or acts as an escape route from a miserable life.

CCsgirl · 20/05/2012 15:14

I know I'm not perfect, who is, but I have never been pregnant by some muppet I knew 2 minutes. I also wouldn't expect someone else to pay to support my child. So those saying, why care it's not as if you're paying for it, in a way I am....

JoanOfNark · 20/05/2012 15:16

It is a huge leap. Its like if I say I've never owned a cat, you say "well I suppose you think all cats should be killed and their coats turned into coats for rich people", or some other such nonsense.

Assigning very extremist views to others without any foundation is extremely rude as well as derailing an argument.

insancerre · 20/05/2012 15:17

what would you rather happened op?
That she was put in a home for unmarried mothers and had her baby taken away from her shortly after birth. She could always look for it after 18 years.
What a strange op. How can soemeone be incensed by this? Confused
it's just judgemental

QuintessentialShadows · 20/05/2012 15:17

People should sit a spelling test before they are allowed to post on facebook.

Sirzy · 20/05/2012 15:17

Summed up things very well there allyours

I do like how the op seems to be blaming the mum for this situation, here is me thinking it takes two to make a baby!

WorraLiberty · 20/05/2012 15:20

CCsgirl Do you also judge anyone who's been divorced or split up with their DP within a certain time frame of having a baby with them?

What about parents who have children by more than one Father/Mother?

Or is poor judgement and possible contraception failure only unacceptable in those who use text speak?

JoanOfNark · 20/05/2012 15:21

are people really complaining about someone being judgemental about others lives on aibu?

Isn't that what everyone does all day long here, usually quite proudly?

CoteDAzur · 20/05/2012 15:21

Accidental pregnancies do happen but you would expect a rational, mature adult to be thoughtful and slightly worried after one in these circumstances, rather than flippant. That is what I thought OP was pissed off about.

PullUpAPew · 20/05/2012 15:22

YABU to be so judgmental.

I'm assuming you return your child benefit to the treasury? Get no tax credits etc? We all pay to raise each other's children to a greater or lesser extent, they go to public schools and walk on public roads don't they?

QuintessentialShadows · 20/05/2012 15:22

I love how people are as judgmental about OP as OP appears to be about that silly bat on facebook.

And next, I am expecting a flood of indignant posts explaining how they are not judgemental at all. Wink

My last post makes me sound like a crazy proctologist doesn't it?

CCsgirl · 20/05/2012 15:26

What I would rather happen is that she didn't sleep with a different man every 2 weeks and maybe not be careful enough. I would rather the child was wanted and planned and conceived in love. I would rather she could support the child financially. I would rather not live in a society where this was so acceptable. But, I have been told I am judgy and that a child is always a happy event so I won't think ahead to when the child grows up and the future that lies ahead of it. I see now this is my moral code and sadly it can't be inflicted on others
