To think that a lot of women on MN are married to idiots?

Bullying idiots.
Cruel idiots.
Mummy's boy idiots.
Unfaithful idiots.
Financially abusive etc.etc.
What were these women thinking? Is this the danger of looking for a sperm donor rather than a life-partner and friend? Some threads even seem to indicate that there were indications before marriage and the women chose to ignore them.
I am being deliberately provocative of course but is there a grain of truth?

so which type of idiot are you married too?

ripsishere · 17/05/2012 14:18

I'm not.
I imagine that MN is a microcosm of human life.
Of course people aren't going to post AIBU that my DH flew from one country to another in order to find a decent job that will provide a reasonable income and scope for great education for our DD?
People tend to post extremes of behaviour.
So, YABU. In the same way that a lot of men are married to idiots.

DamselInDisgrace · 17/05/2012 14:18

My DH is married to an idiot. I'm of the feckless idiot persuasion.

manicbmc · 17/05/2012 14:18

I left my idiot (and his mother)

Now I'm with a lovely, thoughtful man who is the most sharing and generous person I have ever met. Grin

BumpingFuglies · 17/05/2012 14:18

I'm not married at all

Olympia2012 · 17/05/2012 14:19

I agree op, I agree!!

But what is worse is that some MNers seem to need a thread somewhere to tell them this!

redrubyshoes · 17/05/2012 14:20

Everyone makes mistakes. That is why there is a rubber on the end of a pencil. Wink

IAmNotACowbag · 17/05/2012 14:20

No idea, I don't know what everyone's H's are like! I do try and stay away from the relationships thread though, it's enough to make you paranoid!

tethersend · 17/05/2012 14:21

There's no 'I' in idiot.

BumpingFuglies · 17/05/2012 14:21

I might marry a sperm donor though...

WhereYouLeftIt · 17/05/2012 14:22

Surely those who post of their idiot husbands are a self-selecting sample though? Those whose husbands are normal and nice have no complaints or troubles to post. Well, not about their husbands anyway.

And as for "Some threads even seem to indicate that there were indications before marriage and the women chose to ignore them." - surely that's just the benefit of hindsight?

IAmNotACowbag · 17/05/2012 14:22

I also think it's hard to tell if these H's are actually like that - too many MNetters make massive assumptions in relation to isolated incidents and blow things out of proportion at times.

SayCoolNowSayWhip · 17/05/2012 14:23

YY what Rips said. People aren't going to post about how wonderful their DH is (I would, but I'd be accused of stealth-boasting....). People come on here to rant and complain. That's what it's here for.

Love how you're being deliberately provocative.... Hmm

manicbmc · 17/05/2012 14:23

Hindsight is a beautiful thing.

If you have a bit of foresight then there is no need for any hindsight!!

In an ideal world of course..

fluffiphlox · 17/05/2012 14:32

Yes well I'm prepared to believe that I am indeed the idiot in my marriage as my DH is a thoroughly decent man. And yes the women who post are a self-selecting sample and the Relationships thread does seem full of suspicion and thinking the worst.

I did mention to my OH that I thought that MNers were mainly neurotic women married to idiots and his reply was: Isn't that ALL women?

Neurotic? No. Um, well, do you think so? Perhaps. I hope not. Oh God. That's what everyone thinks isn't it?

lou2321 · 17/05/2012 14:35

Most people in real life I know are married to idiots, some couple I know are both idiots and deserve each other Grin

I used to me married to a complete idiot but now have a lovely DH.

In all seriousness though, there are 2 people in my group of 8 close friends who are NOT married to idiots, 3 of the 'D'H's are top class idiots but are allowed to get away with it, the other 3 are quite often idiots but are not completely awful all of the time.

Grrrrrr

EatsBrainsAndLeaves · 17/05/2012 14:37

Agree that many of the relationships Mners post about seem to be pretty poor - although your opening post does seem to be written to be provacotive. But it is hard to tell whether most Mners are in good relationships and just don't mention it.
