To say that I think Kate Middleton looks like she has an eating disorder?

Umm skinny's not the word. Possibly and probably a size zero? Not natural/down to fast metabolism either as she used to be 'bigger'. That waist is thinner than my thigh by a long shot. Even DH said about it this morning and he's generally not interested in that sort of thing.

Don't understand why it hasn't even been mentioned in the press? I'm confident that any other celeb/person in the public eye would be questioned/accused of being anorexic.

I wonder what her BMI is? I would suggest dangerously low, NOT a good example IMO. However, gorgeous teal dress :)

Cba to read whole thread. But anyone whose thigh is bigger than her waist is over weight. I think she looks fit and healthy, she has muscles. we are just so used to seeing fat people nowadays. Go and watch some old black and white films, or old pathe new reels - all the woman are much thinner than they are now.

nizlopi · 12/05/2012 12:23

Oh, I don't hate her, but I think most people have a celebrity who irks them. For most its Katie Price, for me its Kate Middleton.

I do like that she wears high street clothes, so I'm not completely anti her. I just think she needs to eat something and wipe her face.

nizlopi · 12/05/2012 12:25

laptop

Thats because they were given drugs by the film companies to keep them that way. Julie Garland, anyone?

What I find more disturbing is the seeming agreed stance most of the mass media have taken to only represent KM in ways that validate her looks.

She's so pretty/beautiful/elegant/a style icon/ etc etc.

And then they talk about her being a role model and I just want to scream - if you insist on telling me she is a role model, at least let her open her mouth! At least let her say something! Give her a personality, an opinion, something, because the longer it goes on that every report about her talks about whatever designer dress she is wearing, how pretty she is, how thin she is, how whatever-physical-element they've focused on is - the more we are equating role models with desirable physical validation and less with brains and personality.

It makes me so sad because a) maybe she does have an interesting thought in her head but I have no idea because the media agenda won't allow it, and b) is this what society expects my (future unborn) daughter to look up to?

And here we all are, adding to it, speculating on eating disorders and how thin she is or not, how pretty she is, validating her looks or damning them...god damn! She did a history of art degree...might not be a huge amount in comparison to some degrees but it requires an element of critical thinking - let her open her mouth and prove her worth instead!

MmeLindor. · 12/05/2012 12:26

Good to see that we are still capable of being bitchy and nasty about our fellow women, and judging them purely on their looks.

Sisterhood, what sisterhood?

nizlopi · 12/05/2012 12:27

History of Art.

THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING!!

MmeLindor. · 12/05/2012 12:28

You are right, Betty.

She is very constrained by her role though. If she were to state her opinion on anything, there would be uproar.

I think she does some charity stuff, but probably more figure-head than actually finding out what goes on.

nizploi the point is, we - none of us - have no idea what kind of brain she has in her head because she is not allowed to express herself, her personality, her thoughts and ideas.

Maybe she is incredibly vacuous and shallow. Maybe she is incredibly interesting and full of ideas.

But we will never know as long as the media paint her as this clothes horse that stands around looking pretty all day.

monkeymoma · 12/05/2012 12:31

I work with people with serious eating disorders, she does not look like one and TBH it is bad taste to chuck the phrase eating disorder at anyone thin

she COULD be at the early stages of one but no way to tell from her appearances right now, and TBH since she is expected to produce an heir I doubt the royal physicians would let a potentially fertility harming eating disorder go un noticed and treated at this stage

she looks like a very tall long slim woman

MmeLindor. · 12/05/2012 12:32

Yes, everlong. That could be it.

I dislike the bitchiness disguised as concern, and the sheer nastiness of some posters is quite awful.

jazzchickens · 12/05/2012 12:33

accused of being anorexic

WTAF??

So now it's a crime is it?

bettybat · 12/05/2012 12:33

Other royals at least have a personality - a handful of them have a personality and something interesting to say, even if they are not allowed to actually take a stance on something.

With KM, it is like she is being white-washed out of that by some mutually agreed media agenda.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 12/05/2012 12:35

Bloody hell there are some brainless sheep on MN. Shock

Why would you even speculate about something you don't know and is none of your business? It's really annoying to see diagnoses on MN from wannabe doctors. Even though I'm sure that KM doesn't read chatboards, you may be hitting other targets... you know, other mere mortals with loved ones who are similar build, whether suffering from disordered eating or not.

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 12/05/2012 12:36

what's sisterhood got to do with it?

do i think she has become too thin? yes.

do i think she has an eating disorder? i wouldn't have a clue. probably not, though. i'd have thought becoming a bit too thin would be a perfectly rational response to being followed about by cameras all the time. the thinner you are, the fewer 'bad angles' you have. it does mean that in some shots you're going to look a bit too skinny, but overall it will mean more favourable press than not.

squeakytoy · 12/05/2012 12:37

she looks like a very tall long slim woman

but she didnt look like a very long slim woman 4 or 5 years ago, she looked like a healthy slim woman, who was not a thin as a rake. I would say Zara Phillips has a much better figure.

monkeymoma · 12/05/2012 12:38

too thin doesn't necessarily = anorexic, people can be "too thin" for many many reasons

and not all anorexias = anorexia nervosa

ignorant people!

monkeymoma · 12/05/2012 12:38

"I would say Zara Phillips has a much better figure."

it's not a competition Hmm

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 12/05/2012 12:40

Squeakytoy... actually she did - when she was at uni she looked similar (in my view) to how she does now. She's a straight up and down shape but looked healthy then and does now. I'm sure the Royals have medical professionals who would maintain a weather eye on any actual problems.

Latsia · 12/05/2012 12:40

I think you probably are being unreasonable to suggest she may have an eating disorder but I agree she does look very thin and most certainly has lost weight. I guess the worry - as someone pointed out earlier in the thread - is her being used as "thinspiration". Nothing she has any control over and if I were in the public eye as much as her I'd probably be reed thin too but I would worry about what message it sends out to young girls.

Is human nature to comment on people in the public eye. Not sure why everyone is so cross about it.

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 12/05/2012 12:41

not true, she's definitely lost a lot of weight since uni.

MarshaBrady · 12/05/2012 12:41

I don't blame her for not putting her opinions in the public domain.

She gets enough criticism for her looks.

The constant monitoring and commenting by some on her shape and size is annoying. Actually the compulsion of some larger women to denigrate smaller is irritating all round.

squeakytoy · 12/05/2012 12:42

Not in the terms of competition but from comparison of two women who are in the public eye and my own personal opinion.

I dont think obese looks healthy, but I also dont think very thin looks healthy either. I would personally prefer to have the figure of Zara than be as waiflike as Kate Middleton now looks.

I would also hate to be scrutinized by being one of the most photographed women in the world too, as if she does want to gain any weight, the pregnancy speculation will be rife by the media.
