To say that I think Kate Middleton looks like she has an eating disorder?

Umm skinny's not the word. Possibly and probably a size zero? Not natural/down to fast metabolism either as she used to be 'bigger'. That waist is thinner than my thigh by a long shot. Even DH said about it this morning and he's generally not interested in that sort of thing.

Don't understand why it hasn't even been mentioned in the press? I'm confident that any other celeb/person in the public eye would be questioned/accused of being anorexic.

I wonder what her BMI is? I would suggest dangerously low, NOT a good example IMO. However, gorgeous teal dress :)

I do not know if she has an eating disorder but if she is 5'10 and 105lbs then really it doesn't matter what anyone thinks. She is Underweight by medical definitions. and the fact that lots of people are saying how they'd love to look like her is a little scary. I would love to have a figure like her but I know I have an eating disorder and always will have. I will always want to be overly thin. That doesn't make it normal or healthy. Either way though, she can't win But like it or not she is a role model. I find that a bit scary too. More than anything I feel sorry for her, so much pressure, she can't win either way.

fatlazymummy · 12/05/2012 16:32

How do we know she is 105 pounds? Has she said so?

Midgetm · 12/05/2012 16:36

Earlier in the thread some posters gave this as her stats. No idea where they came from, not sure if they are great mates with Kate.

diddl · 12/05/2012 17:07

"Considering the average size in this country is now SIZE 16 and we're discussing whether Kate Middleton is anorexic based on being slim, this is the most absurdly incorrect thing I've read all day."

What´s the average size got to do with whether or not people now think that skinny is normal?

megapixels · 12/05/2012 17:17

I think she's very slim but not dangerously or unhealthily so. However if your thigh is fatter than her waist by a long shot then it's not her with the weight problem...

PestoPenguin · 12/05/2012 17:23

It was widely reported before the wedding that her weight was around 8 stone. If this is true then her BMI is about 16, which is unhealthy and underweight. 7.5 stone (where did that figure come from??) would make her BMI 15, which is really v v low.

However, I don't think she looks as thin as a BMI of 15-16. She's reported to do several hours of exercise a day too, so may not eat like a sparrow either. She's certainly toned.

Even if she is underweight, this does not necessarily mean she has an eating disorder, that is a huge leap and not a helpful thing to speculate about.

Personally, I think she'd look better if she were a bit less slight.

Goldenbear · 12/05/2012 17:28

I agree that anything above skinny is considered overweight. The sense of perspective has gone- it's warped by the media feeding us images of people that have supposedly put on weight that in fact have probably gone from being very slim to slim.

I think it is also a class thing if you're fat you probably eat more junk food, you don't have the money or inclination to look after yourself. It is reflected in middle class parents' attitudes regarding the childrens' diets and weight. On mumsnet there are a lot of threads about childrens' weight and height and percentiles blah, blah, blah. In RL parents at the school gates or at baby groups tend to obsess over it to.

It was widely reported before the wedding that her weight was around 8 stone.

But it was also reported that she was stressed out by the wedding that she had lost weight and was desperate to gain weight. Though tbh, I think all the reports are pretty bollocks.

I'm 5'2" and 104 pounds. I look skinny.

If she is 105 pounds, given she's 5'10", I will happily eat my hat. She's not. Not even close.

grammar · 12/05/2012 17:37

Maybe she has got an eating disorder... does that make her bad? And should the press be commenting on it?? Did we learn nothing from Princess Diana. Poor girl, leave her alone to a job that most of us would hate. And good luck to her.

grammar · 12/05/2012 17:39

Oh, and is it our right to 'question/accuse'? No, but the media have made us all think it is.

You are being unreasonable to be calling her Kate Middelton when she has made it very clear that her name is Catherine.

She looks stunning and fabulous and do not forget that she supposedly exercises as much as her sister Pippa who is healthy and about the same shape and able to complete marathon cross country ski events tri-athlons etc.

Armi · 12/05/2012 17:55

I think she's slim but she looks strong, iykwim. She looks as if she gets lots of exercise and fresh air, not as if she spends her days sitting in a corner forcing herself to eat lettuce and then flopping about feeling crap.

Bunbaker · 12/05/2012 19:03

She is slim not skinny. She looks healthy and toned. I'm inclined to think that as size 16 is the average size these days it has become accepted as the norm, which isn't necessarily healthy.

Why are some of you so nasty about her? Are you jealous?

MyChildDoesntNeedSleep · 12/05/2012 19:11

There is no way on earth that she is 5'10. I'm this height and if I wore five inch heels like she does I'd tower over everybody. William must be about 6'5" then, as she's still shorter than him in her killer heels!

AvengerFan · 12/05/2012 19:18

She towers over Charles and Phillip.

tb · 12/05/2012 20:45

I've just had a look at a series of 39 photos of her on the Telegraph site.

There is photo of her in shorts from a roller disco. Her legs look very long, slim and toned. Her knees aren't at all bony.

I've noticed recently that her knees look incredibly bony, and her calves seem to have lost their shape.

BillyBollyBandy · 12/05/2012 20:52

William is 6ft3 apparently so the same height diff as me and DH.

However I haven't measured either of them so am going on press reports Wink

Oakmaiden · 12/05/2012 21:01

A baby or two will fill her out a bit. :)

She looks lovely - I wouldn't say too skinny at all. Slender though. Not terribly busty, but not everyone is as lucky as me Wink

olimpia · 12/05/2012 21:02

I'm in the minority here who agrees with you OP that she's far too skinny and looked better in her years at uni when she looked more normal. Her face is particular is quite pointy. I had noticed it too. But I don't necessarily think she has an eating disorder. She probably just diets lots and exercises.

CremeEggThief · 12/05/2012 21:52

I don't think it's helpful or nice to speculate she has got an eating disorder. However, I have to agree she looks too thin, and if she gained a stone, she would still have a lovely, slim figure.

porcamiseria · 12/05/2012 21:56

I feel really mean posting on this thread, as its so not a topic i like !

i like her, but I do wonder if knowing how scrutinised she is, makes her eat less? I dont know Sad

Ribeno · 12/05/2012 21:58

As a former "extreme dieter" (binge eating 3,000 cals one day and eating 1600 the next), I think there is obviously some weight control going on here. She looks good but a bit too thin.

chandellina · 12/05/2012 22:03

I really hate society's obsession with women's weight and appearance but I still felt slightly shocked when I saw her on the news last night. I hope she's feeling fit and healthy and eating enough but it's not exactly constructive to have your appearance be of such public interest.
