To say that I think Kate Middleton looks like she has an eating disorder?

Umm skinny's not the word. Possibly and probably a size zero? Not natural/down to fast metabolism either as she used to be 'bigger'. That waist is thinner than my thigh by a long shot. Even DH said about it this morning and he's generally not interested in that sort of thing.

Don't understand why it hasn't even been mentioned in the press? I'm confident that any other celeb/person in the public eye would be questioned/accused of being anorexic.

I wonder what her BMI is? I would suggest dangerously low, NOT a good example IMO. However, gorgeous teal dress :)

I think we are becoming conditioned to think that we are entitled to decide what size everyone else should be. I blame aibu Grin

I am going out tonight and my dress is very like Kates but in black. I doubt anyone will be pondering if I am too big or too small. I would hate to be famous. Hate it.

diddl · 12/05/2012 14:18

"no way diddl, the "fat" threshold has moved way up, along with average waistlines"

I agree that people have got bigger.

But I also think that many people think "skinny" is the norm.

AmberLeaf · 12/05/2012 14:19

"I think we are becoming conditioned to think of being overweight [or at least heavier] as normal."

I think that it´s the other way tbh & we are thinking that skinny is "normal" & anything above that is overweight.

Agree

BonnieBumble · 12/05/2012 14:22

Dh never notices or comments on anyone's weight but even he made a comment about her looking like she was wasting away when he saw her on TV this morning.

She is a lot thinner than she was a few years back.

bobbledunk · 12/05/2012 14:29

No matter how she looks some people will be picking over every little flaw. She can't be blamed for being overly careful with her diet, if she went a couple of pounds over 'skinny', the tabloids would be calling her the porky princess. Who on earth would want that?

diddl · 12/05/2012 14:32

"if she went a couple of pounds over 'skinny', the tabloids would be calling her the porky princess. Who on earth would want that?"

Well I´m sure no one wants that.

But tbh if she did go, "a couple of pounds over skinny", she wouldn´t be porky, would she?

So in that way, it shouldn´t matter.

Avenger... I wish you good luck for your procedure, hopefully it will be just the thing that works for you and helps long term. I have to say, your DD is very lucky to have such an aware and supportive Mum. :)

AvengerFan · 12/05/2012 14:51

Thank you so much Lying, I feel partly to blame for dd's food issues, though to be fair she is behaving more in line with the way her Father ate as a child. I was as a child living with an anorexic Mother, who was a feeder, think Mrs Doyle from Father Ted. As a child I had food issues then that made me very lean, I then got to enjoy food in my mid teens and when I left home I went the other way Grin Blush and I have yo yo dieted and failed over and over to maintain the loss.

TodaysAGoodDay · 12/05/2012 14:58

I think she's very thin, on a par with Victoria Beckham only much taller, but I really like that look. She has a figure I would love, lucky woman Envy

QuickLookBusy · 12/05/2012 14:59

Yes she is thinner than she was 10 years ago, but that doesn't mean she is underweight now.

KM is known to exercise regularly, you can see in the most recent pics that her arms are well defined. She has a lovely toned body. She isn't too thin,

My DD she is 21 and very slim but I know she is healthy, she eats like a horse. She shrugs off comments such as "have you got an eating disorder" as she is used to them now. She has good body confidence and these kind of comments don't bother her one jot. She still feel the people asking her are ignorant twats though. And I would agree.

bobbledunk · 12/05/2012 15:07

diddl; she is on the slim side of normal, a few extra pounds would bring her up to normal which in the media would be condemned as 'porky'. I think she would care a lot.

She looks perfectly healthy anyway so I don't see why she should feel the need to change.

sue52 · 12/05/2012 15:07

She looks healthy to me. She is known for her enjoyment of sport and has an athletic body type. She should lay off the eyeliner though.

NotGoingOut17 · 12/05/2012 15:08

Not read entire thread so apologies if repeating.

I don't know if she has an ED or not, I imagine it's more likely the pressure of being in the public eye has led her to be very careful with that she eats but it is quite clear she has lost a lot of weight over the years. She has always be slim, and is probably naturally slim, her Mum has legs that I am envious of, and I am younger than Kate let alone her Mum, so it must run in the family plus she is very sporty, but I would say now (in my personal opinion) that she is now bordering on being too slim.

Ideally I think she would look nicer with another 10lbs or so on, she is extremely tall which will make her look slimmer.

The teal dress was absolutely beautiful and she is a very pretty girl with lovely features, yet my overall perception of her was that I didn't find her 'attractive' despite this, whereas if you had put a few more pounds on her she would look hot in that dress - I personally think she looked better when she was a bit curvier (and still slim) but i realise this is my personal opinion, i think at the moment, being so thin has aged her slightly too - and a few more pounds would make her look a bit younger.

That said, she is still very beautiful and has excellent taste in dresses. But she has always had a lovely slim frame, just now i think its becoming waif like rather than athletic - you only need to look at how her legs are compared to in the past to see that

Oooh. Yes. I have my very first updo Grin

It is kind of 70s looking so I have these shoes, a black envelope clutch from bgbg maxazaria (which is where the dress is from) and I am just going with some bling earrings and one bling ring.

I am doing the full 'mutton dressed up as lamb' look Grin

"I think that it´s the other way tbh & we are thinking that skinny is "normal" & anything above that is overweight."

Considering the average size in this country is now SIZE 16 and we're discussing whether Kate Middleton is anorexic based on being slim, this is the most absurdly incorrect thing I've read all day.

Aribura · 12/05/2012 16:00

Don't confuse the Daily Mail "embracing curves" bullshit with actual public perceptions.
