To say that I think Kate Middleton looks like she has an eating disorder?

Umm skinny's not the word. Possibly and probably a size zero? Not natural/down to fast metabolism either as she used to be 'bigger'. That waist is thinner than my thigh by a long shot. Even DH said about it this morning and he's generally not interested in that sort of thing.

Don't understand why it hasn't even been mentioned in the press? I'm confident that any other celeb/person in the public eye would be questioned/accused of being anorexic.

I wonder what her BMI is? I would suggest dangerously low, NOT a good example IMO. However, gorgeous teal dress :)

Think she looks amazing in the teal dress Envy but is on the skinny side, that said it is probably quite stressful having the eyes of the world on you constantly - that would be enough to stop me reaching for the biscuit tin Wink !!

damarone · 12/05/2012 22:11

Kate doesn't get the stick Posh spice gets for being skinny because she's actually posh. If you're posh- you're slender not skeletal.

kikid · 12/05/2012 22:16

she is def too thin..

wasabipeanut · 12/05/2012 22:24

She's very slim certainly but I get annoyed when people imply that anybody who is very slim or skinny has an eating disorder. People are different. Obviously.

I'm sure if she put a few pounds on she will have "ballooned."

I have to say when I saw the pic of her wielding a hockey stick weatrng coral skinny jeans she looked fabulous.

Meglet · 12/05/2012 22:25

I've always been thin and was under consultant care during my pregnancies as my BMI was low. But my periods were always on the dot and I was very fit. It is possible to be dead skinny and get pregnant easily.

And some people look skinner than they are. I have teeny wrists and sharp cheekbones that make me look much smaller than I am. My thighs are athletic regardless of what exercise I do. Certain clothes just make me look like a bookmark.

topknob · 12/05/2012 22:25

I'm an 8 and she is similar to me x

leguminous · 12/05/2012 22:27

Even if she is ill, she can't magic away an eating disorder for the sake of being a good example, can she? It's extremely difficult to seek help and recover even when you're not constantly under media scrutiny. Some people are naturally thin, some people get that way through horrible, dangerous mental illness, and either way I don't think I get to speculate on the bodies of people I don't know. Personally I'm fat, mostly thanks to years of other mental health problems that fucked up my relationship with food, and I don't much enjoy people speculating that I'm just a pig who eats McDonalds three times a day and doesn't know any better. If I were thin I'd feel equally shit about people whispering that I'd probably just been making myself chuck up in the loo.

Also, 'accuse' her of having anorexia? It's an illness, not a crime! It's a good thing when the media steers clear of gloating over people's misfortunes.

Hopefullyrecovering · 12/05/2012 22:27

I'm an 8 and she's fatter than I am!

Morloth · 12/05/2012 22:33

God help her if she does get pregnant, she is going to be torn about for every ounce either way.

I just don't get this obsession with her, I don't think she has ever put herself forward as a role model so why does have any obligation whatsoever to look a certain way?

fluffypillow · 12/05/2012 22:33

I think she looks great. I don't think this thread is kind or helpful OP.

YABVU.

FrumpyPumpy · 12/05/2012 22:33

If you had recently married the future king of England, being possibly the most watched and I guess admired woman in England right now, swamped by photographers at every event and then analysed by every person in England... wouldn't you be incredibly concious of your weight?!
She is very skinny, but also athletic and her weight is not 'concerning'.
If she wasn't the weight she is she would be accused of putting on weight, being pregnant, stressed or whatever else people come up with!
She is an incredible asset to England and the monarchy, few could be as right for a future Queen of England as she is. If the greatest critisisms people are coming up with are that she is possibly too thin, considering the extreme pressure she must be under, she is a pretty amazing and strong young woman!

I find the whole KM thing an interesting illustration of how the role models women are told to aspire to physically do not necessarily embody the characteristics men find attractive. A bit like Jackie Onassis, I do not know of any man who fancies her - in fact her whole appearance is overwhelmingly asexual - but amongst women she inspires slavering devotion. What does this say about us? Who knows.

She looks far to thin to me, even thinner than she did in her wedding dress - not a great example IMO.

hiviolet · 12/05/2012 22:53

Of COURSE she's too thin. She's significantly skinnier than she was a few years ago, and she was quite slim enough then.

ReactionaryFish · 12/05/2012 22:54

It is not her appearance which makes her a poor role model; more the manner in which she has lived her life.
none of this is her fault, btw - entirely the fault of certain sections of the media who have decided to take up this model of female passivity and promote it as worthy of emulation. All very regressive and unhealthy.

HmmThinkingAboutIt · 12/05/2012 23:03

Why is she a poor role model?

Because she looks a certain way that people have a problem with? Because she conforms to a certain look that is perceived as ideal by society generally? Because she may or not be able to take the pressures of everyone constantly commenting on her appearance?

Stop feeding the monster.

The way she behaves professionally should be how she is judged as a role model ultimately.

LapsedPacifist · 12/05/2012 23:06

Poor girl is only a "role model" because she isn't allowed to open her mouth.

Either to eat normally, or to speak.

ArielThePiraticalMermaid · 12/05/2012 23:08

What a horrible thread this is.

ReactionaryFish · 12/05/2012 23:09

As I said above, it is not her appearance which is the problem.
And she has no profession. It is therefore not possible for her to behave professionally.
She has done nothing, says nothing, and to all intents and appearances, thinks nothing. her choice, if that's the mode of existence she finds satisfying - but please, don't hold her up as someone to admire. Let's look to women of achievement for our role models - not someone who has succeeded at nothing more than a "good marriage". This is not the 1780s.

What could she have done, realistically? She was Prince William's girlfriend, the heir apparent. Who would have employed her?
