for being pissed off for being told shush by a friend with a sleeping baby...

was outside a supermarket today with a friend and her child when another friend came up with her 5 month old boy...i said hello and started talking and she told me to shush cos her baby was asleep? we were outside a supermarket? is this not a bit precious?

oh and i have my own toddler and know how tired it can make you but still...i would hardly expect to be able to shush people out in the supermarket!

Oh bless her she is probably sleep deprived. She will eventually look back at moments like this and cringe.

I used to put DC in the kitchen when the washing machine was on.

It sent them to sleep.

They sleep through anything.

Except 'shushing' and sudden loud noises.

YANBU but bear in mind that walk round the shop might have been the quietest moment in her day. Agree with Comedy may have been pure instinct and she will blush about it soon enough. Yeah you have a toddler and you probably remember those sleep deprived days keenly. But she's living them.

I probably would have done the same with my eldest PFB if someone was talking or laughing really loud and I'd been having a bad time of it

My mate's sister had a voice that was only one degree below shouting and she used to put me on edge all the time around my DS.

surely if she was walking for sleeping purpose's? she wouldnt walk to a supermarket where she would more than likely have to stop and talk to people? oh and me and my friend are at that exact spot every week..same time same day..she knew she would bump in to us..

But if the baby had been screaming all down the high street just before she bumped into you, she might still be at that 'tenter hooks' stage.

if i was in her house and she shushed me? fair enough..no matter how sleep deprived i was ..i would never have told someone to shush like their a child..i never quietened things down for my daughter..cos everyones life shouldnt stop cos there is a baby sleeping

You reach that point, though, where you can't bear to think of the baby waking up. She was at that point - don't blame her.

But DS1 was a total nightmare with colic and also decided that no matter what time he went to sleep, 5am was a great time to get up.

I shush loud passers by (they can't hear me over their shoutiness but it makes me feel better) when DS is asleep. I swear at council grasscutters. I curse the day that beeping pedestrian crossings were invented. And small running yelping children can bugger right off.

Maybe your hello was a lot louder than you realised? Maybe there were extenuating circumstances, either way, dont stress over it. Next time give her a big wave instead, :)

I have actually shushed my poor Dp on occasion, sometimes when all 3 have been full on all day you just cannot take yet another voice

I called the animal department of the local authority when DD3 was a baby because the dog next door used to bark if the wind blew, or if someone sneezed, or if he saw a squirrel, or somewhere in the distance a car beeped.. DD3 was a screecher who would wake at the drop of a pin, born at the start of summer just before the older DCs all got out of school for the summer break, and the dog would bark for 45 minutes non-stop if he got started. I am sure I shushed people but what I really wanted to do was strangle them if they disturbed her. I know I had dreams about shooting the dratted dog, the odd time I got enough sleep to dream..

She was probably totally frazzled and didn't even realise she'd done it. I can remember standing on the pavement shouting at a lorry once because it drove past me and woke DS up after I'd been up ALL night and he'd just dropped off. You must remember what it's like surely?

I shouted at a motorbike once after I spent an hour walking dd2 to sleep. Was hideously sleep deprived. Cut het some slack sleep deprivation makes you nuts.
