Would you be offended by a father accompanying his small daughters into the ladies toilet?

I have two dds aged 4 and 2. My dh often takes them out and about in town on his own and inevitably needs to take them into public toilets. The thing is that male public toilets are often extremely dirty and unsanitary and I'd much rather he took them into the ladies. My question is would you be offended by a man coming into the ladies toilet when he is obviously accompanying a small girl? I don't personally know anyone who would have a problem with this but would be interesting to see if lots of people disagree with me.

outyougo lol that has happened to me many times when my dc were little...i became a master at hiding my ladygarden Grin

GinPalace · 07/05/2012 14:30

I am not convinced the mens loos are much worse unless it is a dive pub in a back street somewhere.

I lose count of the number of times I go to the ladies and am revolted by what I find (No need to expand on that!) - I as often as not end up leaving it cleaner than I found it!

So I think the premise for which the man is opting for the ladies is shaky and for that reason I don't think I should have to accept him flouting the gender divide and making anyone uncomfortable.

My Dh tells me the cubicles in the mens are often fine compared to what I moan to him about, as men tend to use the cubicle less due to the alternative being there.

So for that reason YABU

It would infuriate me if I found a man in the women's toilets and I would challenge him and call security, don't care what the excuse is, he shouldn't be there, it is so disrespectful. He can use the disabled toilets or go to a small cafe where they have single room toilets. Not the fucking ladies. There is an entire world of fathers out there who manage their daughters without having to invade women's toilets. Why is your husband any different? He deserves whatever response he gets if he tries, whether that's being escorted out by security, arrested or beaten up. All of which are very likely.

IAmBooyhoo · 07/05/2012 14:33

titty your DM would have priority use of the toilet. people who jsut use it to save queuing dont but can avoidably inconvenience people who do.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 07/05/2012 14:34

Re: tje 'child bursting for the loo' argument - why not just ask the people waiting in the ladies/gents? "Hi there, little mini-me is bursting for a wee, do you mind if she jumps the queue?" - to which my answer would be - "Of course not, on you go!" And I'd be surprised if many people said No, the child could wait and wet itself.

Worra - I suffer from Irritable Bowel Syndrome. When the diarrhoea comes on, it can do so with almost no warning whatsoever - it is like being kicked in the stomach, and I have only moments to get to the loo. So far I have always found a vacant ladies loo when I have needed one, but if there were a queue in the Ladies, and I were about to poo my pants with a Niagara of diarrhoea, and the disabled loo was occupied by a parent and child who could have gone somewhere else, and I had a nasty, embarrassing accident as a result, I would be very upset indeed.

CharltonHairstyle · 07/05/2012 14:35

I wouldn't mind at all.

It's not as if he would be sharing a cubicle with me Grin

ENormaSnob · 07/05/2012 14:36

I wouldn't be particularly bothered but then I think where do you draw the line?

Daughters of any age?
Son?
Needy wife?
Just don't like men's toilets?
Long queue?

Oh and I am always weeing with the door open as the buggy won't fit in the cubicle. Taking ds out of the buggy is not an option as he would open the door and leg it.

GinPalace · 07/05/2012 14:37

I lean towards Bobbledunk's reply. Though I may not put it so bluntly she speaks for me. Grin

WorraLiberty · 07/05/2012 14:37

bobbledunk A Father deserves to be beaten up or arrested for taking his daughter into the Ladies toilets?

Seriously??

Voidka · 07/05/2012 14:40

Do you have children bobbledunk

God help them if you do with that kind of attitude!

TheFarSide · 07/05/2012 14:41

This thread has reminded me ... I used to work in a public building and a man with mental health issues used to come in for support. He used to carry a large holdall with him and one day we found out it contained a portable toilet.

I have no idea whether he ever used it or not.

LadyBeagleEyes · 07/05/2012 14:41

Shock bobbledonk.

WorraLiberty · 07/05/2012 14:42

The mind boggles

Do you also think women should be beaten up for taking their sons into the men's toilet, like someone said they did earlier in the thread? Confused

ENormaSnob · 07/05/2012 14:44

Ds1 is 11 and would be pretty upset if a girl/women went into the gents whilst he was using a urinal.

pumpkinsweetie · 07/05/2012 14:47

Wouldn't bat an eyelid, my dh takes my girls to the ladies loos if hes alone with them as id rather that than my dcs going to loo on their own!-too many weirdos about these days even in toilets!

IAmBooyhoo · 07/05/2012 14:47

"He deserves whatever response he gets if he tries, whether that's being escorted out by security, arrested or beaten up. All of which are very likely."

WOW! all the rational people have come out of the woodwork today haven't they?

FFS a man deserves to get beaten up for taking his DD to the toilet.

would you say a woman deserves to get beaten up for taking her son to teh male toilets? and is this infront of the child or are they allowed to remove the child before the beating takes place?

CaptainVonTrapp · 07/05/2012 14:47

Agree with ginpalace don't think mens cubicles are that much worse than ladies so don't really see the need.

I'm not offended just think its unnecessary.

Some ladies would be very uncomfortable and so he should go in the mens and wipe the seat if necessary (which is what I have to do in the ladies sometimes anyway...)

I've never seen a man in the ladies toilets so I guess men and daughters around the country are generally managing

bobbledunk · 07/05/2012 14:50

Worra - For being where he shouldn't, for being so disrespectful and arrogant to believe that he can come in to the ladies, it's one possibility and yes he deserves it, it will teach him to do what every other father does and bring them to the appropriate toilet.

What next, men choosing women's toilets for themselves because they are 'cleaner', like perving on women/ are looking for a lone women to attack, once men feel entitled to invade the women's toilets for whatever reason without fear of being stopped, it will never be safe for any female of any age but particularly young girls to use public toilets. Every pervert/pschyo will be targeting them.

No normal man wants to be in the women's toilets, nothing would drag dp in there, it is those that do who are the minority that women need to be protected from. Hence, gender segregated toilets and the need to enforce segregation.

GinPalace · 07/05/2012 14:50

I assumed bobbledunk was not being literal.

Voidka · 07/05/2012 14:51

Good Lord you have some screwed up views.

LadyBeagleEyes · 07/05/2012 14:52

Um, I think she was gin.

IAmBooyhoo · 07/05/2012 14:52

bobbledunk, so should women be beaten up aswell for using the men's toilets with tehir sons?

WorraLiberty · 07/05/2012 14:52

Oh dear god what is it with people's inability to take part in a simple discussion without bringing ridiculous 'what ifs' into it? Hmm

bobbledunk there is nothing arrogant or disrespectful about a Father taking his DD to the toilet.

To say he deserves to be beaten up for it, makes you sound like a mindless thug to be perfectly honest.

RabidAnchovy · 07/05/2012 14:52

Personally I would not care

insancerre · 07/05/2012 14:53

There are lots of places that have communal toilets though, pubs and even the Winter Gardens in Blackpool.
So, maybe things are changing.
