Would you be offended by a father accompanying his small daughters into the ladies toilet?

I have two dds aged 4 and 2. My dh often takes them out and about in town on his own and inevitably needs to take them into public toilets. The thing is that male public toilets are often extremely dirty and unsanitary and I'd much rather he took them into the ladies. My question is would you be offended by a man coming into the ladies toilet when he is obviously accompanying a small girl? I don't personally know anyone who would have a problem with this but would be interesting to see if lots of people disagree with me.

Depends on the man. After all, there are often male cleaners in the ladies.

If he looked a bit embarrassed, I'd be fine. If he was striding in like he owned the place, I'd be a bit Hmm.

WorraLiberty · 07/05/2012 13:32

worral the issue isnt a child needing a wee, it is mosmans attitude of sense of entitlement for herself...i doubt any disabled person would mind a bursting child needing a wee and using the facilities but because ppl like mosman, who have no respect and cant wait a few minutes in a queue, and wants to use the loo

Ahhh if you read back doormat you'll find that people absolutely do have a problem with a bursting child taking a quick wee in an empty disabled toilet.

IAmBooyhoo · 07/05/2012 13:33

how does it not worra? what may start out as a quick wee for you and your child could turn into her/him having an accident, you having to clean them, dry them change them, you might decide to use teh loo while you are in there all the while a disabled person is queuing outside either in massive discomfort or having wet or pooed themselves. why the hell would you think your want to use a spacious toilet is more important thn their need for a bit of privacy when urinating?

doormat · 07/05/2012 13:33

titty ppl who need a toilet desperately can obtain these cards from nacc and other organisations...if they dont want to carry a card that is their choice but some ppl have no option but to use a card (some stores will let you use staff toilets, check on nacc website) as there is a desperate need...some ppl can obviously not wait but they shouldnt have to stand there and explain to a checkout or customer service whilst they are shitting or pissing their knicks...it is for ease of access only

IAmBooyhoo · 07/05/2012 13:35

you would let down the tyres of a disabled person's car? Confused because that's rational isn't it? Hmm

BlueberryPancake · 07/05/2012 13:35

I don't think it would be a problem for me, but I think some elderly women might see it as an issue.

My husband was once in a small museum where there was no changing table in the man's loo, which happens quite often. He opened the ladies' loo door and shouted something like 'I have to change my baby's nappy does anyone mind if I come in?' and nobody objected, so he did. Not a problem.

WorraLiberty · 07/05/2012 13:35

Boo and aliens might land and a marching band might go by the window...and and and.....

Seriously, taking a child for a quick wee in an empty toilet is fine with me as long as disabled people are given priority.

I still have not read one argument on this thread that's changed my view on that....no matter how ridiculous some of the arguments are getting.

Mosman · 07/05/2012 13:36

I'd let the tyres down of anyone who verbally abused me disabled or not.

outyougo · 07/05/2012 13:36

Boo I'm not the one saying girls shouldn't use the male toilet accompanied by their own father for fear of creepy men. My point is if the poster who thinks that her dds should use the female toilet accompanied by their father for fear of creepy men, what is she going to do about creepy men in the womens. Her dds won't be able to use either toilet either accompanied or unaccompanied. Its a nonsense.

I'd bet my house that there are statistically more assaults in public toilets by men than by women but as I said earlier, my judgement will be clouded by the attack on me (by a man).

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 07/05/2012 13:36

Would not mind. My real bugbear however is school age boys as old as eight in the ladies changing rooms at the swimming pool.

theodorakis · 07/05/2012 13:36

I wouldn't mind as long as he wasn't one of those very loud, show-offy daddys. seriously though, can't think why it would bother me personally as long as he wasn't perving (and who has time for looking at anything other that 2 small kids in a public place??)

IAmBooyhoo · 07/05/2012 13:38

yes very sensible indeed mosman. lets hope you're caught in camera in your idiotic act.

worra you aren't giving priority though if you being in that toilet (without having a disability) means a diabled person has to wait.

TheFarSide · 07/05/2012 13:40

Booyhoo sometimes it's a problem clambering over pushchairs in the ladies loos which are often very small and cramped. I understand why people with children might find it preferable to use loos with disabled access. As long as people are courteous (ie don't spend too long) I don't see why it should be a big problem.

tittytittyhanghang · 07/05/2012 13:40

if you did, you could be a member of an organisation like the nacc for bowel problems, where you get issued with a card..that explains you need a toilet urgently....

But why should/would she? DM has medical issues and would balk at the idea of being issued with a card that explains her needs. She uses disabled toilets and if anyone questioned her upon leaving it (outwardly she looks more or less healthy) I pretty sure she would tell them to mind their own bloody business or not to be so close minded.

Mosman · 07/05/2012 13:41

Well I have never ever in my lifetime needed to let down anyone's tyres do to never ever in my lifetime been verbally abused by anyone using the disabled toilets so shall we conclude that people aren't actually complete knobs in real life and understand that a child might need to use their special toilet in a shop ?

WorraLiberty · 07/05/2012 13:42

worra you aren't giving priority though if you being in that toilet (without having a disability) means a diabled person has to wait

Yeah for 2 minutes

Probably less than that actually given that I would have looked around first to make sure no-one was heading towards it.

Mosman · 07/05/2012 13:43

Exactly.

IAmBooyhoo · 07/05/2012 13:45

"I understand why people with children might find it preferable to use loos with disabled access"

oh i understand why they find it preferable too. I find it preferable not to have to squish 3 of us into a tiny cubicle and leave my buggy outside the toilets. but the disabled toilets are there for teh convenience of disabled peopel and they should have priority. no matter how nicely you smile at that disable person on your way out of the disabled loo, you will still have inconvenienced them for teh sake of your preference as opposed to their need.

doormat · 07/05/2012 13:45

titty that is your mothers choice, as i said some ppl do not have that choice..they need to use a card ..

IKilledIgglePiggle · 07/05/2012 13:45

What if there is another disabled person already in there, you still have to wait.

Mosman · 07/05/2012 13:46

Exactly.

EatsBrainsAndLeaves · 07/05/2012 13:46

outyougo - tbh I hadn't thought of it. But actually many women who have been attacked by a strange man may be frightened if they went into toilets and the only person there was a man with his two DDs. I am not saying all men attack women, or it would probably be rare for even a violent man to attack a woman when he had his own daughters with him, but I can see why it would frighten some women.

IAmBooyhoo · 07/05/2012 13:47

"Yeah for 2 minutes"

i really wouldn't appreciate having to sit in my own wee/poo for those 2 minutes TBH worra. i'm sure the people around me and the cleaning staff would rather i hadn't been made to wait for those 2 minutes either.

IKilledIgglePiggle · 07/05/2012 13:48

Disabled loos are about access, not about always being vacant.
