Mumsnet and McDonalds

DH popped into a Mcdonalds yesterday to (ahem) use the facilities. Did his usual trick of taking his iPhone with him, and later let me know that when he was connecting to the Internet, the free wifi for McDonalds users popped up 'in conjunction with Mumsnet'!!! The blurb on mumsnet still says they don't allow advertising from mcdonalds, but when we googled it, it turns out this ban was lifted last May, and 'Mumsnet is proud to be associated with the family friendly restaurant'. .

WTF? You might be, MNHQ, but I'm not.

ooh I like chariots of fire. What role does he play in COF?

BupcakesandCunting · 03/05/2012 10:01

Is it? There's one opened where we are going today and I thought the menu looked alright.

I'll stick with me bollock burgers and milkshakes thickened with chicken eyes, then!

Worth a read

I only went once - the menu does look nice but it wasn't very nice really.

It was FULL of screaming kids and indulgent mothers. That's probably why I hate it.

BupcakesandCunting · 03/05/2012 10:02

Actual ROAR at GetOrf's Wills/Kate movie thread crossover. Last night's Tramadol not worn off yet, bab?

bettybat · 03/05/2012 10:02

But why would I go to a Macdonalds to eat their "healthy" food? Why would I not just go to a lovely, local restaurant or cafe that makes its food there and then on the premises, who support local farmers by buying and cooking with their produce, who change their menu every day just 'cos they like cooking?

I don't agree with eating in Macdonald's because I don't agree with a lot of their practices. I don't trust their meat sources. I don't wish to eat any of their food and I don't want to give them my money. I don't want to bring my children up in a culture where Macdonalds is even a treat. These are my choices. What exactly is your issue with that?

I don't get it. Why are you so invested and getting so het up about Macondald's menu? I worked at a Macdonalds as a teenager - I have a very good idea of a lot of things about their cooking and food practices.

IKilledIgglePiggle · 03/05/2012 10:02

DS1 is off school, he has been sick for 3 Days so we are off to McDs for lunch as it's the only thing he fancies to eat, I may partake in a small burger.......you gotta love ole Ronald.

valiumredhead · 03/05/2012 10:02

Bugger - will try again...

Get0rfMoiLand · 03/05/2012 10:03

I didnae have any tramadol last night at ALL> I just talk shite when perfectly sober and compos mentis. Grin

Was on trams when I recorded the bloody thing.

margoandjerry · 03/05/2012 10:04

I don't get this. I am as pretentious a middle class mum as they come (hence the name) but they sell burgers and chips not crack and porn.

We go there about twice a year - I would never have gone there before the DCs but now we do as a treat and I take my hat off to them for providing ok food at very cheap prices. It's much cheaper than Pret - and nicer. And probably healthier when you look at the fat in Pret sandwiches.

It's like a byword for terrible food when actually I think it's ok. Unless you are someone who literally never permits sweets, cakes, burgers, chips. In which case no you should not go into mcdonalds. The salt doesn't bother me because I've been told to up my salt intake for my low blood pressure so it's actually health food for me Grin

And LOL at stealing their wifi. Its free to customers, not random passers by who want to nick it.

I know.

It's like paying a prostitute and just having a cuddle Grin

BupcakesandCunting · 03/05/2012 10:05

My mum had tramadol in October. It sent her loopy and she told me the safe combination number for the safe in her house where she keeps all the wonga. She went white the next day when I told her what she'd done. Then tried to convince me she'd told me the wrong number. Daft cow.

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 03/05/2012 10:06

oh yes re treat. i firmly broach it as 'convenience food' rather than 'treat food'. they do like the toys, mind you, but even they were discussed as 'junk toys' last time we were there, because they fell apart immediately.

OutragedAtThePriceOfFreddos · 03/05/2012 10:06

Worra Grin

BupcakesandCunting · 03/05/2012 10:07

I love it when peeps get all hand wringy on these threads about going to naice little local cafes where the food is produced by Farmer Dave down the road. Is it bollocks. It's supplied by Costco or whatever the local wholesalers is and repackaged to appeal to divs who think they're buying wholesome fayre for little Jonty.

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 03/05/2012 10:07

well would you lookit that? one tramadol and getorf turns glaswegian... Grin

NovackNGood · 03/05/2012 10:07

You really must have been naive if you thin they run this with some altruistic attitude. Of course it's a commercial concern or how else do you think they pay for bandwidth with the number of hits they have.

perceptionreality · 03/05/2012 10:08

Really crispycod?? Was it true?!

bogeyface · 03/05/2012 10:09

Pretentious or not, its Margot, not Margo Wink :o

And I agree that McDs is not the route of all evil, and their QPwithC deluxe with bacon is LUSH!

As has been said, McDs doesnt make you fat, unless you stuff your face with it day in and day out. I would say that they have more to moan about if people like the OPs DH are popping in to use the facilities, whilst refusing to buy any of their products!

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 03/05/2012 10:09

i think having someone on the thread who used to work in mcdonald's and now won't take her children there at all is a good thing.

what went on, betty? i'm interested to know.

squeakytoy · 03/05/2012 10:10

Why would I not just go to a lovely, local restaurant or cafe that makes its food there and then on the premises, who support local farmers by buying and cooking with their produce

well according to McDonalds...

"We only use 100% British and Irish beef burger patties and in 2010 this came from around 16,000 farmers. We only use whole cuts of forequarter and flank, with nothing added. We simply add a pinch of salt and pepper after cooking.
We only use 100% British Pork ? in 2010 this came from 1,370 UK farmers. All of our suppliers must comply with the UK animal welfare legislation.
The only meat we use across our entire chicken menu is breast meat and all of our chicken used in our menu is traceable right back to the farms on which the birds were raised"

I am not "het up"... I just find it quite amusing that people seem to have so many misconceptions about the company.

WorraLiberty · 03/05/2012 10:10

oh yes re treat. i firmly broach it as 'convenience food' rather than 'treat food'

Why?

If they like it and they don't get it that often then it is a treat.

Surely convenience food is frozen veg or Aunt Bessie's yorkshire puds?

You can wrap it up whatever way you want but the kids will still know it's a treat.

Get0rfMoiLand · 03/05/2012 10:10

WHY did I type didnae?

I have no idea. I blame dd. Sometimes we adopt rogue accents for our own entertainment. Glaswegian is one of our faves (despite having never been to Glasgow, mind you we have a lot of weegie relatives).

I have no idea why I am starting to bloody TYPE it though.

Tbh I think I am going mad
