Mumsnet and McDonalds

DH popped into a Mcdonalds yesterday to (ahem) use the facilities. Did his usual trick of taking his iPhone with him, and later let me know that when he was connecting to the Internet, the free wifi for McDonalds users popped up 'in conjunction with Mumsnet'!!! The blurb on mumsnet still says they don't allow advertising from mcdonalds, but when we googled it, it turns out this ban was lifted last May, and 'Mumsnet is proud to be associated with the family friendly restaurant'. .

WTF? You might be, MNHQ, but I'm not.

Of course advertising does not work on the ABC1's or Guardian readers. Adverts in the Guardian can on television are just public information anouncemnets, paid for by shiny squeaky clean corporations and the ones for prestige German car marques are purely to let the plebs see what they will be able to buy third hand in a few years time. :)

that sort of does a mild, half-hearted shrug

That is the default attitude of the vast majority of regular MN posters.

5madthings · 03/05/2012 21:28

was about to say i am pretty sure lequeen can read, so therefore can read the 'nestle' logo on the kitkat packet.

is currently eating a nestle crunch bar (i am bad but i really like them!) Shock

WorraLiberty · 03/05/2012 21:29

You know it's really MN that needs the advertising off the back of McDonalds

I doubt there's a person in the entire Western World who hasn't heard of McDonalds....MumsNet however are a slightly smaller affair Wink

Therefore, every time someone takes a shit in McDonald's bogs and logs (pardon the pun!) onto the internet...they're seeing the MumsNet name.

I wonder how many people complained to McDonalds that it put them off their crap? Grin

Moominsarescary · 03/05/2012 21:31

There was a boycott coca cola protest when I was at uni. We ended up with pepsi instead. I hate pepsi

WorraLiberty · 03/05/2012 21:33

Does anyone remember that bizarre thread where someone wanted us all to boycott Muller Light yoghurts because a lorry nearly hit her DH's car on a motorway?

Despite the fact he clearly pulled out in front of it? Grin

LadyBeagleEyes · 03/05/2012 21:33

The nestle th ng started in the 70's and it doesn't appear to be hurting them one bit. But I wonder how many boycotters love a nice bottle of San Peligrino on their breakfast table for after the morning coffee

usualsuspect · 03/05/2012 21:44

So MN shouldn't advertise McDonalds to protect all us thick WC plebs then?

Is that the gist?

usualsuspect · 03/05/2012 21:45

So all the MC posters can be all smug and say we saved your poor children from the evil that is the Big Mac?

LadyBeagleEyes · 03/05/2012 21:49

Yup, Usual, that is indeed the gist.
