Mumsnet and McDonalds

tattychicken · 03/05/2012 08:13

DH popped into a Mcdonalds yesterday to (ahem) use the facilities. Did his usual trick of taking his iPhone with him, and later let me know that when he was connecting to the Internet, the free wifi for McDonalds users popped up 'in conjunction with Mumsnet'!!! The blurb on mumsnet still says they don't allow advertising from mcdonalds, but when we googled it, it turns out this ban was lifted last May, and 'Mumsnet is proud to be associated with the family friendly restaurant'. .

WTF? You might be, MNHQ, but I'm not.

I like Maccy D's, I like their food and I like the cleanliness. I like the fact that it's the only place you get detailed nutritional information about what you are eating.

I hate people whittering on about the damage they do to the planet. They weren't doing, years ago, when millions of others were doing the same thing.

Maccy D's is now very green and use organic milk and free range eggs, all the produce comes from our farmers (most anyway) and the toilets are clean.

And I know someone else who says they were a very good employer.

I think doubters are just being snobs tbh.

PimpMyTunnel · 03/05/2012 14:39

I dont get why people are still commenting on this long bloody thread about mcdonalds!! The OP clearly got what she wanted.. A heated debate about it. What was her purpose in telling us that mcdonalds advertised mumsnet on wifi. And more to the point people arent talking about the point she was getting at about the advertising. They are moaning about how they dont like the food. im well and truly baffled Confused

jifnotcif · 03/05/2012 14:43

We like talking about fast food. Relax, Pimp.

squeakytoy · 03/05/2012 14:43

If you are baffled, then you dont quite understand the way threads work.. it is a debate.. Grin..

Groovee · 03/05/2012 14:50

I find it funnier that her dh probably went for a secret maccy D's than a crap

PimpMyTunnel · 03/05/2012 14:51

A very dull debate at that

Moominsarescary · 03/05/2012 14:52

Yes he was having a burger I bet

bogeyface · 03/05/2012 15:00

Its interesting that I keep reading about the unhealthiness of the food, and that the advertising should be banned. Has no one heard of the word "no"?

If you dont want your children eating junk then dont take them and say no when they ask, simple. Dont expect a multinational business to take responsibility for the health of the worlds children!

Obesity is not McDs fault anympore than it is KFC, Burger King or my fault! It is the fault of parents who feed their children crap because either they dont care, cant be arsed to cook healthily or cant say no. Blaming a fast food outlet for crap parenting is ridiculous!

bogeyface · 03/05/2012 15:01

Oh and thanks to this thread, I am having maccys for my tea! Who says advertising doesnt work.........:o

tattychicken · 03/05/2012 15:04

Actually I wandered off coz I was getting a bit bored... Most posters have missed my point entirely and got all hot and bothered about mcd's and assumed I'm a mcd's basher, which I'm not. MNHQ have explained about the mistake re the advertising, which is fine. And DH may have had a burger after having a crap...which is up to him really, he's a big boy and is probably getting fed up with all the organic lentil stew he gets at home...

PimpMyTunnel · 03/05/2012 15:04

Haha couldnt agree more with bogeyface. What is the world coming to eh? Grin

WorraLiberty · 03/05/2012 15:22

I took my DS to Maccy Dees for lunch today because of this thread! Grin

First time in about 3 months and it tasted so lovely, I could eat it all over again.

Moominsarescary · 03/05/2012 15:45

I wonder if dp will pick one up on the way home

DogEared · 03/05/2012 15:45

I also had a MAcD for lunch because of the thread. A texas bbq thingy. It was delish. So thank you, OP, for reminding me about the deliciousness of fast food!

NovackNGood · 03/05/2012 15:49

Be careful if you keep doing that western civilisation and culture will collapse.

NovackNGood · 03/05/2012 15:52

Tatty i believe it was you who was all hot and bothered about McD's

*'Mumsnet is proud to be associated with the family friendly restaurant'. .

WTF? You might be, MNHQ, but I'm not.*

I've just been speaking up on their behalf.

hairylemon · 03/05/2012 15:54

of course the DH had a burger, hes only human.

Im with the others who said dont like it dont eat it. I dont give a hoot if MN are associated with McDs, its fucking delicious and thats the end of it

LtEveDallas · 03/05/2012 16:07

Tatty have you noticed that MNHQ asked you a question - they want to know where you saw "proud to be supporting a family-friendly restaurant"

I've tried to find it, but not been able, maybe you could clear this up.

Moominsarescary · 03/05/2012 16:10

I think it came up when he connected to their wifi Lt

NovackNGood · 03/05/2012 16:14

Was he surfing porn when taking his dump in McD's toilet and that came up when he tried to get to a free porn video site???

Are you sure he went for a bowel movement?

AIBUqatada · 03/05/2012 16:18

Novack you are making yourself look a little crazy with the extent of your vehemence against the op's fairly moderate concerns. I don't understand your rudeness and personal hostility.

nethunsreject · 03/05/2012 16:19

Yanbu op.

MN total sell out nowadays. All the 'let girls be girls' stuff is just window dressing really.

THough to be fair to Justine she admitted last year/yea before (at UNICEF thingy) that they had no personal objections to any advertiser at all, including Nestle, but do not take Nestle's dollar due to members' feelings. No doubt that'll change soon too.

cabbagesoup · 03/05/2012 16:23

McDonalds is a franchsie - it maybe that they are only supporting your local one??

NovackNGood · 03/05/2012 16:25

I have not been rude nor have a said anything against the original poster, apart from the post i made at 16:14:42 which is a mild attempt at humour.

usualsuspect · 03/05/2012 16:27

There were flounces and all sorts of buns thrown when this was debated last time , it was great Grin
