Mumsnet and McDonalds

DH popped into a Mcdonalds yesterday to (ahem) use the facilities. Did his usual trick of taking his iPhone with him, and later let me know that when he was connecting to the Internet, the free wifi for McDonalds users popped up 'in conjunction with Mumsnet'!!! The blurb on mumsnet still says they don't allow advertising from mcdonalds, but when we googled it, it turns out this ban was lifted last May, and 'Mumsnet is proud to be associated with the family friendly restaurant'. .

WTF? You might be, MNHQ, but I'm not.

OK obesity can be due to a number of factors - bad food choices, lack of exercise, sitting in front of TV and sitting in front of computer .

Now the sitting infront of a computer issue - should we now ban Mumsnet - 'cause it's making a generation of fat mamas !

MrsHeffley · 03/05/2012 13:09

Err I don't think I'm a food snob,you do.

NovackNGood · 03/05/2012 13:10

I taste with my tongue but maybe you need to see a dentist if you have bad teeth. Eating is not the same as actually taking the effort find out before you erroneous bile.

As I say, any member of the public can contact McD's and you an visit it all but some prefer to be professionally outraged rather than informed.

KatieMiddleton · 03/05/2012 13:12

Is this one going round again?

I like MN has a few ethical principles. I like they don't endorse Nestle and they consult with us on important matters.

I don't really care about McDonalds even if they're recruitment methods for "Games Makers" were the biggest load of HR shite I have ever seen and I've worked with some berks in the past

I quite fancy some of their chips now. I'll see if dh will go and get me some so I don't have to get dressed

NovackNGood · 03/05/2012 13:13

I freely admit to being a food snob and yes I do eat in McD's. but my own burgers are better because i use rioja in the recipe which I am sure McD's wouldn't get away with. Idiots would think they contain alcohol:)

MrsHeffley · 03/05/2012 13:13

Novak I have eaten in there,my children have eaten in there so kinda think I'm informed.Your passion for McDonalds is errr interesting.Hmm

bobbledunk · 03/05/2012 13:15

I love an occasional McDonalds, they're selling cheap, tasty, not very nutritious food, not heroinHmm.

ReindeerBollocks · 03/05/2012 13:16

Mmm Rioja burgers - they sound delicious.

I'm not overly bothered who MNHQ has links with as long as it carries on .

I second the 'it's only food not crack' brigade.

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 03/05/2012 13:17

'cheap, tasty, not very nutritious food - i'm lovin' it'

There's yer poster, ladies. Grin

monkeymoma · 03/05/2012 13:19

"One can always take ones own sandwiches"

yes, but then you wouldn't be choosing ANY high street chain food options would you?

my issue is with people not choosing McDs on health grounds but then choosing another processed high street chain food which they think is "healthy" or healthier and therefore allow themselves to eat it more often

Like I say, this thread wouldn't be here if it were one of the other EQUALLY unhealthy high street food providers, because people do not see them all as what they are, but people see McDs as what it is, which is a redeeming feature IMO as it results in more moderation

Whoopydofoxpoo · 03/05/2012 13:21

Blimely this thread has done more of advertising McDonalds then a months advertising campaign - but their PR people are ' lovin' it ' - well done OP !

or are you a McDonalds PR person OP ? Grin

PimpMyTunnel · 03/05/2012 13:25
Biscuit
NovackNGood · 03/05/2012 13:26

If it gets to an full thread maybe it too will get an article about it in the Times and Daily Fail... however I'm sure The Guardian will avoid reporting it. Their 200 thousand readers would have to arrange a boycott of their own paper.

Whoopydofoxpoo · 03/05/2012 13:26

Do you want fries with that Biscuit ?

MrsHeffley · 03/05/2012 13:27

Monkey on our high street Tesco Metro,Sainsburys and M&S all provide plenty of healthy, quick and easy alternatives.Boots probably do too.We have indi cafes which sell healthier options too.

monkeymoma · 03/05/2012 13:27

high street food munchers who avoid mcDs are like people who boycott primark then happily stroll into peacocks!

PimpMyTunnel · 03/05/2012 13:27

Was mine the first biscuit of the thread? Grin t'was a much deserved biscuit!

NovackNGood · 03/05/2012 13:28

MrsHeffley where do your local indies get their produce??

LineRunner · 03/05/2012 13:30

I remember McLibel.

NovackNGood · 03/05/2012 13:33

So do I, Mcdonalds won.

LineRunner · 03/05/2012 13:36

I think that's where a lot of historical animosity towards McDonalds comes from. The McLibel Two became heroric underdogs in many people's eyes.

MrsHeffley · 03/05/2012 13:37

I have no idea Novak,why?

Sorry there are other food options,it is possible to buy healthier quick food options.I'm guessing you're inferring all high street food outlets have identical menus, choices and are nutritionally identical to McDs. They don't but if you want to pretend they do go right ahead.

thebody · 03/05/2012 13:38

If u don't like it don't eat it!! What's the big problem and what's a good snob? Is that a pretentious twat?

akaemmafrost · 03/05/2012 13:39

I could not possibly care less about this Grin.

TheSinglePringleWillicopters · 03/05/2012 13:42

Look at all the fucks I give
