Mumsnet and McDonalds

DH popped into a Mcdonalds yesterday to (ahem) use the facilities. Did his usual trick of taking his iPhone with him, and later let me know that when he was connecting to the Internet, the free wifi for McDonalds users popped up 'in conjunction with Mumsnet'!!! The blurb on mumsnet still says they don't allow advertising from mcdonalds, but when we googled it, it turns out this ban was lifted last May, and 'Mumsnet is proud to be associated with the family friendly restaurant'. .

WTF? You might be, MNHQ, but I'm not.

it's on the OP, Helen, not sure exactly where she got it from.

HelenMumsnet · 03/05/2012 12:47

@AIBUqatada

Lol that the superseded copy re boycotting McD shows precisely on the versions of the site that you can use to browse MN in McD toilets. If anyone dragged their desktop into a cubicle they wouldn't face the same ethical dissonance.Grin

Blush and sheepish Grin at ethical dissonance

A Happy Meal is filling if you're a young child. My dds would very rarely hae a McFlurry after.

Ah, OK, thanks.

tattychicken, could you let us know where you saw those words, please?

MrsHeffley · 03/05/2012 12:48

Novak then bring on the tobacco and formula advertising we all have a choice.

"A McFlurry is milk" errr and a load of other stuff and calories. One imagines the Smartie etc dumped on top contain a tad more than milk.

Mayo with a w/m tuna sandwich isn't a problem, mayo dumped on top of a multi fried burger served with fries is.

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 03/05/2012 12:48

isn't the mcflurry more a whipped veg oil and sugar thing? it certainly tastes like it.

NovackNGood · 03/05/2012 12:50

What makes you a food snob is calling a chain restaurant Junk food. I expect you are probably one of the professionally enraged non-u types. Did you ever go to El Bulli or book three months in advance to get a table at Ramsays? I expect that makes me more of a food snob than you. :)

MrsHeffley · 03/05/2012 12:52

Halycon my skinny 8 year old twin boys don't find a happy meal filling. When gma takes them on the odd occasion she does she gives them a load of bananas, fruit etc in the car after. Many people will go for the uber cheap McFlurry instead. Not a problem if it's an occasional treat but bad if you're foolish enough to buy the farm fresh advertising and thus think it's a balanced meal ok to have 2 or 3 times a week.

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 03/05/2012 12:53

mcdonalds IS junk food... it's practically the definition of junk food. i have no problem with that. Grin

these are the ingreds of the mcflurry. must be the glucose syrup etc that gives it the weird texture.

Ice Cream
Skimmed Milk, Cream, Sugar, Whey Powder,
Glucose Syrup, Stabiliser (Guar Gum, Mono
and Diglycerides of Fatty Acids, Nature Identical
Flavouring, Carrageenan, Dextrose).

MrsHeffley · 03/05/2012 12:56

Aitch you forgot the Crunchie,Smarties etc ingredients.Wink

thebody · 03/05/2012 12:56

So it's good enough for your dh to poop in there!!!

Get a grip. We have mac sometimes do what. ??? As part of a balanced diet it's fine.

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 03/05/2012 12:57

oh yes, i don't care about them. i don't like the taste of the mcflurry, it's shit ice cream imo. the mcdonald's brownies, otoh, are FANTASTIC.

NovackNGood · 03/05/2012 12:58

McD's dont' fry burgers??? They use a clamshell grill in most UK restaurants. If you fry your burgers i reckon I'll never eat at yours

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 03/05/2012 12:59

mmmmmmmmmmmmmm, brownies...

Belgian Plain Chocolate (29%) (Sugar, Cocoa
Mass, Cocoa Butter, Emulsifier (Soya Lecithin),
Flavouring (Natural Vanilla)), Sugar, Wheat Flour,
Water, Butter, Vegetable Oil (Rapeseed), Belgian
Milk Chocolate (5%) (Sugar, Cocoa Butter,
Whole Milk Powder, Cocoa Mass, Emulsifier
(Soya Lecithin), Flavouring (Natural Vanilla)) Free
Range Whole Egg Powder, Salt.

MrsHeffley · 03/05/2012 13:00

Not had those, last time I went in one I was foolish enough to have one of their salads,my teeth(and tastebuds) are still recovering, haven't been brave enough to sample anything else.

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 03/05/2012 13:01

they definitely keep the burgers poaching in oil after they are cooked, novak (unless this has recently changed). i think they can keep them there for an hour before they must toss them. something like that, anyway.

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 03/05/2012 13:02

the ingredients really aren't bad on the brownie front, are they? get a knife, cut it up, it's the cheapest box of chocs you'll ever have. the salads are disgusting. but the coffee is good.

NovackNGood · 03/05/2012 13:03

Hey Mrs Heffley.

I've and idea for you. McD's will arrange for you to visit their farms to see the cows in the fields and the sheds to follow the cows to the abattoir to see the factory making the burgers and even probanly give you a burger to taste too.

They might if you ask them nicely let you take your HIGH HORSE and ride it in the fields too.

I expect though you'd prefer to live in the dark and not take the opportunity to actually find out for yourself.

MrsHeffley · 03/05/2012 13:04

I don't get how they can turn a salad into such a vile product, the acid tang,my poor teeth!!!

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 03/05/2012 13:04

i have No Idea why people react so badly to other people not liking McDonalds.

NovackNGood · 03/05/2012 13:05

The salads are great. Lettuce, corn, tomato, olive, tuna and a packet of duo pack of sherry vinager and extra virgin.

MrsHeffley · 03/05/2012 13:05

I've sampled the food Novak, hardly living in the dark.

NovackNGood · 03/05/2012 13:06

To be honest I'm more surprised someone who thinks they are a food snob is eating Tuna in the UK. I know mine came from the market and therefore off the boat that morning. Where did you buy your tuna or was it tinned!!

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 03/05/2012 13:07

honestly, the chicken salad i had was bad enough to cause strangers to enquire about it...

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 03/05/2012 13:08

she doesn't think she's a food snob, does she, Novack? you think she's a food snob.
