No one should wear denim jackets but a 40+ women wearing one is just so wrong!

And on tv!

If your cold put a cardigan on

OMG, I'm wearing a denim jacket (and am over 40) right this second. How embarassing that I have been committing this fashion faux pas all day, and I didn't even realise thought I looked quite nice with my casual dress, tailored denim and high boots combo

LetsKateWin · 01/05/2012 18:08

YABU

jesuswhatnext · 01/05/2012 18:11

i didnt get to 49 to be told by some judgy twat what to wear!

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 01/05/2012 18:21

That's something I didn't ever expect myself to be posting Grin

NimpyWindowmash · 01/05/2012 18:21

Ouch, I'm 40+ and I wear a denim jacket. And probably lots of other unsuitable things too. I'm a bit worried that I'm too old to wear my converse trainers.
OP, can you let me know what you think?

bitofcheese · 01/05/2012 18:43

get a life, wtf does if have to do with you what someone over 40 wears. guessing you don't have alot upstairs to be so easily offended.

MarySA · 01/05/2012 18:51

Personally I think denim jackets are awful and I didn't realise people still wore them. I don't mind denim skirts and have one. Hope that's OK. But I'm sure I wear a lot of things the fashion police wouldn't approve of.

MissBeehivingUnderTheMistletoe · 01/05/2012 19:14

Like I give a toss Grin

Acandlelitshadow · 01/05/2012 19:23

40+ and no denim jacket but now sorely tempted to invest in one to be worn while waving two fingers wildly at OP and any other fashion police in vicinity.

AliceInSandwichLand · 01/05/2012 19:43

I have never wanted to wear a denim jacket and I still don't. At 47, however, I am still exercising my right to wear my hair long and not dye it, even though it's noticeably grey. I don't know if I am thought to resemble a witch, a bag lady or someone who is comfortable in their own skin in spite of being 47, which is how I feel on the inside, but I entirely support anyone else who wants to wear whatever they want at any age, provided it's not actually offensive. What other people choose to wear is none of my business, unless they ask me!

MoreBeta · 01/05/2012 19:47

Denim is for young people or for working in.

Corduroy on the other hand is a fabric which is ageless yet casual. Grin

tanfastic · 01/05/2012 19:50

Fuck me, I've just turned 39 and bought a new one the other day from Gap. Got ten years of wear out of my last one Confused

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 01/05/2012 22:19

Ah yes, I forgot you're a bloke, MoreBeta Wink

NowThenWreck · 01/05/2012 22:36

Oh Lordy Beta. Denim hasn't been for "young people" since about 1962.It's 2012 Grandpa. Grin

pigletmania · 01/05/2012 23:26

you know those extremely pleated skirts and dresses that seem to be the uniform of elderly people

exoticfruits · 02/05/2012 07:09

'Young people' had denim way back- and they are keeping it!

ILikeTrains · 02/05/2012 11:45

I wonder if Fern's read this thread and is now wearing the jacket just to spite you? Go Fern and you're funky denim jacket :o

ILikeTrains · 02/05/2012 11:46

.your.

Latara · 02/05/2012 12:02

Sigh. Doesn't Everyone know that on hitting 40 you should let your hair go grey, crop it & wear comfy elasticated slacks & fleeces? Honestly.

HellonHeels · 02/05/2012 12:05

Ha ha ha ha ha!

Fuck that shit! I'm 45 and I'll wear what the hell I like :o

Latara · 02/05/2012 12:17

MoreBeta - don't worry i get your sense of humour.
Oh yes - i do hope that if YOU are over 40 you are wearing those Cords in a fetching shade of beige with a beige coat & beige shoes like all the sensible older men. Please remember to plaster that combover down with wax.

Not like my Dad. He has a Grade One & My Friends Fancy Him!!!! He's 65 this year - I must clear out his wardrobe immediately & sit him in front of Last of The Summer Wine so he can learn to dress appropriately. Oh yes & check his home for trip hazards. (Sorry Dad that means I'll have to adopt your cute pet cat - for health & safety reasons of course!) Hehe.

Latara · 02/05/2012 12:43

Alice - if you refuse to cut your hair like a sensible older lady; then you must wear it in a bun! Goodness me.

Seriously though, one of my friends turned 36 & became convinced that she'd hit middle age & couldn't wear anything fashionable because she's 'too old'.
At 35 I worry too - but I know life really is too short too worry - it's better to wear what suits your figure & what you actually like.

Happily, my friend recently stopped feeling depressed & realised she's still young after all. She has now started to wear brighter colours, pretty patterns & trendier clothes that really look good on her & make her feel confident.

Best of all her husband thinks she looks great (although he fancies her even in her scruffiest clothes - lucky friend!).

theDudesmummy · 02/05/2012 18:01

My hair is down my back and I don't care. That's the best thing about being 48, could not give a shit what other people think of my hair/clothes/shoes etc.
