I think its a ridiculous statement op , Fern Britton possibly should avoid the denim jacket , but i know of several svelte over 40's who look fabulous in their's.

I'm 43 and will wear what I like thanks. I don't care what anyone else wears, all that matters is the kind of person they are, so bog off and stop being so judgemental.

so is it only the slim who can wear denim jackets then? I quite fancied one this year to go with maxi dresses/long skirts, but am an 18 on my top half thanks to Bravissimo. All the ones I've seen around have breast pockets which I'm a bit dubious of on me.

Well, Im over 40 and am thinner and fitter than I have ever been, in the 8 stone margin and run over 60 km a week. I am wearing the clothes now that I didn't have the confidence to wear in my twenties and thirties when I was in the 10/11 stone area and why on earth shouldn't I?

I wore a gold sequin, rather short dress last time I went out, I wouldn't have dared wear it before, I looked bloody great if I do say so myself and I pulled a 23 year old. So there!

I look good in everything darling and over 40. U mind your business!!

I think its down to personal taste and styling, i.e Id wear mine with a maxi dress rather than a hoody and trainers. Personal choice really

I am wearing leggings, ankle boots, flowery tunic dress and a denim jacket today. I am 40 and I think I look ok in this. A cardigan with a dress can look either a bit too smart or a bit frumpy, but a denim jacket looks just right.

Im 50. Ive never wornn a denim jacket because theu are not my style.

Lueji I like a mini in the Winter with opaque tights and chunky boots but my legs aren't up to exposure in the summer anymore, damn cellulite.

I really don't understand why denim jackets would be associated with youthfulness. I associate them with ageing rockers. Who often look quite good in them, TBF.

That's not quite how it came over in your title though OP is it? I think it may have been the 'women over 40' bit that suggests ageism, perhaps?
