No one should wear denim jackets but a 40+ women wearing one is just so wrong!

And on tv!

If your cold put a cardigan on

Grin I'm 53 and still wear a denim jacket.

For the record I am a size 10 and look a lot younger.

MardyArsedMidlander · 30/04/2012 15:38

I wear leggins because I hate the feel of nylon tights on my skin- and cotton ones are too expensive and go saggy at the knees.
But then I am over 40 and have purple streaks in my hair and am wearing a denim jacket today- and you know why? because I no longer give a FUCK about what is 'suitable' or what is 'wrong'.
I spent my teenage years in an agony of self conciousness- I am not doing that now I have the money to spend and the arse to flaunt [tongue out emoticon]

RoxyRobin · 30/04/2012 15:40

Etam did shut down about five or six years ago, but I think I read there's an online shop selling lingerie. But Etam didn't really attract fashion-obsessed teens, did it?

I used to get stuff from Tammy Girl until Etam closed; perhaps I should have been arrested (or sectioned)!

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 30/04/2012 15:42

I sometimes buy from H&M kids section. They do the girly, glittery stuff that I am quite fond of.

I have a lovely pink cardi with a tiger on it - bliss

RoxyRobin · 30/04/2012 15:46

I have to be careful, though. I sometimes try something on, look in the mirror and see Bette Davis in 'Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?' looking back at me.

sugarice · 30/04/2012 15:51

Sometimes when I browse in Top Shop I do feel a little self conscious then I think bugger that, I love their jeans and I'm buying them!. 40+ and proud and say it out loud Grin

theDudesmummy · 30/04/2012 15:54

I am 48 and will wear exactly whatever I like (but have never liked or worn denim jackets anyway).

lisaro · 30/04/2012 15:54

YANBU and a denim jacket over a maxi dress should surely be illegal.

DartsAgain · 30/04/2012 15:55

I frequently do the double denim look. I'm currently wearing a denim shirt with jeans, and I don't care a fig. I'm 43.

BarefootShirl · 30/04/2012 16:17

I may only be mid-30s BUT I have no intention of toning down my dress style (if you can call it a "style" Hmm when I reach 40. There are those who will say that some of my skirts are too short and tops too tight NOW but as long as I'm happy and DH likes it then I don't give a s**t.

BTW, I do own a denim jacket and still wear it regularly.

Mrsjay · 30/04/2012 16:34

I stopped wearing denim jackets at 35 i loved them dunno why i stoped to old i guess Hmm they seem to be back in at the moment and I have been tempted but dont want to be the mutton dressed as ... Im 41 (soon) i probably hung up the denim at the right age , If FB is on tv then she is styled isnt she so really no choice in what she wears ,

Malificence · 30/04/2012 17:00

My denim jacket is lovely, got it from Macy's in NY ( yes, a stealth boast Grin ) I luffs it, it's the first one I've ever owned and I'm 46, so nerrrrrr.
If my 22 year old DD likes it , that's good enough for me.

MardyArsedMidlander · 30/04/2012 17:13

I was a GOTh during all my formative years and only bought my first denim jacket two years ago....

PollyPants · 30/04/2012 17:17

I can''t stand it when younger women decide 'women over 40' shouldn't do x/y or z.

Just wait until you are 40. It's not as old as you think it is

CremeEggThief · 30/04/2012 17:25

YABU. Who are you to pass judgement on others' choices in clothing?

NowThenWreck · 30/04/2012 17:29

YABU.
I have got right back into my denim (under 40, but will still wear them when over).
I even did double denim the other day: denim dress, darker denim jacket on top. I looked Ace. So there.

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 30/04/2012 17:57

Why is it too old, Mrsjay?

Nobody can justify such a comment. Please explain!

Agree, PollyPants.

TheReturnOfStropperella · 30/04/2012 19:09

Thanks for alerting me to the error of my ways, OP. I have consulted my birth certificate and realised I need to pay more attention to the Damart catalogue and possibly take my entire wardrobe to the charity shop.

Schoolmumonschoolrun · 30/04/2012 22:16

FWIW Fearn looked beautiful when she picked up her daughter from school today. It was lovely to see a well known and highly recognised mum do a normal thing. She doesn't know me but she always smiles and says hello.

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 30/04/2012 22:20

I notice that none of you who have made sweeping assertions about older women have not exactly rushed forward to explain them Grin

Nanny0gg · 30/04/2012 22:21

Oh.
I have both denim jackets and cardigans.

And I look quite nice in either.

However, I never wear the jacket with jeans or denim skirts.

(Did you think about the elderly that wear denim skirts too, OP?)

MoreBeta · 30/04/2012 22:22

No one over age 20 (man or woman) should wear denim anywhere else but on their legs as jeans. Even 20 is pushing for a denim jacket it in my view.

ameliagrey · 30/04/2012 22:26

YABVU

ameliagrey · 30/04/2012 22:27

Oh and I am 56 and wear one- but not with denim jeans or denim anything. I look much younger though and am a size 8.

BorisJohnsonsHair · 30/04/2012 22:28

I'm sorry, but I can't take fashion advice from someone who says "trainers are fine". Yes, trainers are fine IN THE GYM. No one should ever wear trainers, or any other sports clothing for that matter, unless they are planning some form of physical exercise.

And it's you're, not your.

Denim jackets look fine when worn with floaty dresses or something equally girly. They're not a good look with jeans, whatever your age.
