No one should wear denim jackets but a 40+ women wearing one is just so wrong!

And on tv!

If your cold put a cardigan on

Why, MoreBeta?

mummmsy · 30/04/2012 22:35

pinkdelight oooh would that be a BUTTON??

marriedinwhite · 30/04/2012 22:36

I'm 51 and because I've never worn high heels I have still have perfect feet and can happily wear sandals on holiday!! And I'm probably more daring now than I was at 21 - not very much then Blush.

I love long cardigans - knee length, but not short ones. For warmth I'd love a mink and am old enough for one but wouldn't dare Grin. Might treat myself to a really chic leather or shearling jacket next winter though.

Chilenachica · 01/05/2012 03:02

Well I'm 44 and have just bought 3 new cardigans, one black two purple, all V neck. These I wear buttoned over a slinky vest stylee top with my tight jeans and high heeled boots. Last year I bought 3 asymmetrical stylees, and the OH bought me a fourth, after he'd put his eyes back in their socketsGrin

If I liked denim jackets I'd have a wardrobe full of them too.

So far I seem to have avoided the over 40's rule book, if I ever get a copy I plan to burn it

echt · 01/05/2012 03:10

Sad to see number of older women defending their decision to wear a denim jacket by reference to looking young/being slim.

I am 57, have a face that would stop a clock and will wear what the feck I like.

Though double denim is bleurgh, and I couldn't agree more about BorisJohnsonshair's remarks about the wearing of athletics gear when not about to be athletic.

garlicnutter · 01/05/2012 03:41

In my gym-crazy mid-forties, I wore clothes that showed off my hard-earned physique. A couple of people told me I dressed too young for my age. On being asked what they meant, they explained that from behind or from a distance, they thought "phwoar" only to be dismayed when closer inspection of my face revealed me to be Not Twenty. I didn't find this a very good reason.

Now, I still wear clothes that show off my physique - by hiding it Grin You might disapprove of my choices all the same, OP, so let me know when you're coming my way. I'll get hold of a bunchy woollen coat and wrinkly stockings for the occasion Wink

my2centsis · 01/05/2012 05:41

Yabu, judgmental and rude

echt · 01/05/2012 06:24

garlicnutter how colossally rude those people were. I hope you told them that neither their face nor arse was "phwoar".

iscream · 01/05/2012 06:46

I'm over 50, and I don't think I look bad in my jean jacket. I don't wear it with jeans though, with cotton pants or over a summer skirt and top.
I did buy it in a shop that caters for women 40 and up.

Tee2072 · 01/05/2012 06:55

I really wish someone would publish these rules somewhere so we can all be the same!

So denim is only for legs you say? Did you forget to tell Vogue?

NB yes, I know it's from last year. It still disproves the incredibly idiotic idea the OP has.

exoticfruits · 01/05/2012 07:01

People under 40 will think differently when they are over 40!

iscream · 01/05/2012 07:22

I do remember back when I was in my late 20's wondering if I would still wear jeans when I was 50-60. Silly me.

exoticfruits · 01/05/2012 07:49

I am always going to wear jeans.

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 01/05/2012 09:31

What really, really, especially annoys me (can you tell?! Grin) is when other women choose to tell other women, especially older women, what they should and shouldn't wear.

How dare you?!

It wouldn't, possibly, be because you think that older women should not be seen to be attractive, or stealing the thunder of younger women, would it?

Given as no-one here has seen fit to explain why these supposed rules exist, then this is the only conclusion I can reach. Because there is no reason whatsoever that older women shouldn't wear what the bloody hell they want.

Absolutely nothing to do with looking young. Absolutely everything to do with wearing what makes you feel good.

HipHopOpotomus · 01/05/2012 09:39

You are living in the dark ages OP. women Can wear what they choose

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 01/05/2012 09:40

Or maybe, HipHop, some shops should ask to see proof of age, just like they do when trying to stop underage drinking. Anyone over 35 should be turned away.

thegreylady · 01/05/2012 09:51

I am 68 and bought a denim jacket last year to wear in Summer. I loved it but you have just spoiled it for me.

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 01/05/2012 09:54

Aww. Don't let them get to you, thegreylady Sad

CrunchyFrog · 01/05/2012 09:54

I'm going to get a denim jacket now.

And in protest at this thread, I'm going to wear it with jeans.

DOUBLE DENIM hell yeah.

RoxyRobin · 01/05/2012 10:57

I can trump you with triple denim!! Only a few years ago I used to wear a denim jacket, denim skirt and a large denim bag. DS had a good laugh. But as the Great Jane said, "For what do we live, but to make sport for our neighbours, and laugh at them in our turn?"

pigletmania · 01/05/2012 13:29

yabu, it depends on the type of denim jacket. If you mean the status quo type ones than the are dreadful and should not be worn by anyone Grin. I have a lovely dark blue fitted denim jacket from GAP its lovely and would suit anyone. yes so your 40, bring out the crimolene dresses and elasticated trousers eh Hmm, nearly there at 35 oooh how depressing

garlicnutter · 01/05/2012 14:49

thegreylady, keep wearing it! I bet you look good in it :)

garlicnutter · 01/05/2012 14:53

Colossally rude indeed, echt! It's really quite surprising how many people rudely criticise the appearance of women -> OP Hmm

JosieZ · 01/05/2012 17:51

bring out the crimolene dresses and elasticated trousers eh

Jeesh, thought that said crinoline dresses -- a bit extreme.

usualsuspect · 01/05/2012 17:54

I'm 52 and I will wear what ever I like so ner
