to think Morrison's is the Home of Scumminess?

There is a Morrison's on my way home from work, so I swing by to pick up essential cheapo petrol etc.

Last week, the woman behind me in the queue had:
-multipack of WKD Blue
-multipack of Red Stripe
-Tena Lady pads

  • cigarettes
-cough syrup And she was debating with her DP whether or not the syrup also contained alcohol.

Last night, I went in to pick up some juice, and the man standing by the display picked one up, opened it, drank from it, said 'Ahh that's better', winked at me, and continued shopping Shock

Plus every second person is missing at least three teeth. But it is cheap....

KellyKettle you just reminded me of something re: no windows in Merrion Centre Morrisons.

One time me and my Mum were shopping in there and the power went out Shock only for about 5 seconds but it was pitch black and you could hear the whole supermarket gasp at the same time.

Proper shit me up, that did!

lonelypuff · 21/04/2012 19:42

We have 2 Morrisons shops nearby. Both in areas of lots of social disdvantage. I like Morrisons for it's stock. It has the best fish choice and freshness of all the supermarkets. There's plenty of good quality well priced meat. One of them has 2 choices of dry aged beef and a huge section of all sorts of exotic veg. with streams of steam blowing over them to keep them fresh!
I also love Waitrose and Booths. My supermarket preferences in order from best are: Waitrose and Booths, Morrisons, Sainsburys, Asda (if it's big - they have a very good fruit and veg choice), and Tescos last. Tesco is clean looking and light, but usually miserable looking, not often good fish choice, often rows of Daz and mild economy cheddar, and being there makes me feel a bit depressed. I don't mind the Coop either, a bit eccentric but the odd good thing.

KellyKettle · 21/04/2012 20:16

Grin Ruby that's an hilarious image! I can completely see why it would frighten the life out of you.

ShellyBobbs · 21/04/2012 20:24

Agreed with Asda scumminess, mine is full of chavvy young soap dodgers, well not full of them, but that is where they all shop (and some nice people too). One lad had the leg of his trackie pants rolled up to show everyone he had a tag on, yes, just ONE leg.

We also have a Morrisons which is very nice and doesn't seem to attract them at all. Saying that, I'm mostly found in Aldi buying all the lovely fresh veg and fruit there :)

Atreegrowsinbrooklyn · 23/04/2012 12:47

Went to both Aldi and Waitrose yesterday alongside the local market on Saturday.

Waitrose was full of badly brought up middle class kids with their parents treating it like a giant theme park cum early learning centre. Running around, mauling the fruit and veg and bread whilst their parents block aisles and exits as they chat in their large herds, stable mud smeared over their carefully 'distressed' Hunters.

Much better behaviour in Aldi and i bought more of their gorgeous Parmesan, another two of their indestructible punched metal garden chairs (20 quid apiece!), EVOO and 4 boxes of cereal at 99p a box.

My best Aldi purchase? 10% UREA foot cream and 5% UREA hand cream. If you suffer from keratosis pilari then this is the stuff to use. I use the foot cream on my upper arms because the urea concentration is much higher than most other creams. You can get 15-20% concentrations from chemists but for well over £10 instead of £1.99!

YonWhaleFish · 23/04/2012 12:59

I LOVE our local Morrisons, yet I have experienced the grotty Leeds one so I know what you mean.

treedelivery · 23/04/2012 13:03

I hate and detest both the Leeds one and our local one. It is dark and depressing and looks grubby.

No Waitrose for 55 miles though so there is no hope for me.

Having said that the cafe does a cheese and ham toastie and chips for something daft like 30p. It's a mighty cheap cafe.

seeker · 23/04/2012 13:05

God, I hate snobs.

manticlimactic · 23/04/2012 13:23

Didn't realise there were so many people who shop in one I work in and think it's fab

treedelivery · 23/04/2012 13:27

Mind you, I'd rather shop there than Tesco. I cannot bear the way they leave tins etc in the box and ours always seems to have empty shelves anyway Confused

Morrisons is usually well stocked, to be fair. I just wish it were brighter and more cheerful!

susiedaisy · 23/04/2012 13:31

Our morrisons is nice just full of old folk really, but don't get me started on the nearest Asda about 8 miles away, rough as buggery, you don't make eye contact with other customers unless you want a showdownGrin

Proudnscary · 23/04/2012 13:32

What an unpleasant thread to start - I sooo thought you were being ironic in your OP Peasant, but you weren't...

sugarice · 23/04/2012 13:44

I really like our Morrisons, usually full of OAP's . Thanks for that tip atreegrowsinbrooklyn about the Urea cream from Aldi.

ArielThePiraticalMermaid · 23/04/2012 13:44

I said that early in the thread but was shouted down. Shellybobs' post was a highlight Hmm

BenderBendingRodriguez · 23/04/2012 13:51

The only complaint I have with Morrisons is their apparent need to make the shopping environment as cluttered as possible. Have been a happy Morrisons shopper in various locations over the years and in every single store the aisles have been filled with huge pallets, sticky-out bargain bins and other badly positioned detritus. Other than that, great stuff :)

seeker · 23/04/2012 13:58

Well done to the few -you know who you are- who are trying to stand against the tide of deeply unpleasant judgemental snobbery on this thread. Can't believe what people are saying. Makes my skin crawl.

higgle · 23/04/2012 14:16

I had three teeth missing last week because my bridge dropped out. I am not scummy, but I don't shop at Morrisons because it is a rubbish shop, very old fashioned and has some peculiar system in our loval one which makes it difficult to buy lunch items as they are in a separate area.

anjelus · 09/06/2012 05:36

I use the Morrisons in the Merrion Centre Leeds.

Yesterday somebody stole my bag containing an expensive box set of DVDs after I had left it unattended for all of 2 minutes.

The staff were rude, surly and quite unhelpful, they literally told me it wasnt their problem and there was absolutely nothing they could/would do about it.

The security guard was laughing about it, apparently if you get your bag stolen in Morrissons its all a big joke.

Not sure what Im most disgusted about, the theft of my bag or the attitude of the staff in Morrissons.

LST · 09/06/2012 05:48

I used to work at morrisons. Must be height of scuminess Hmm

LST · 09/06/2012 05:49

And why does having dental problems make you scummy?! Hmm

shuffleballchange · 09/06/2012 11:42

Sounds like our local Asda. We travel quite a way to Morrisons as its nice but cheaper than sainsburys or Tesco. Our local Asda is vile, as are most of its customers.

CockyPants · 09/06/2012 12:00

Even my DD won't set foot in Morrisons...the loo has weird blue lighting to stop people shooting up...Naice!
The food is vile too.

manchestermummy · 09/06/2012 12:03

Love Morrisons. It's transformed a forgotten-about part of our town. Plus in DD1's world lunch at Morrison's is the height of sophistication; she actually jumps up and down when I take her. She even prefers it to the lovely Italian deli next door (literally; it's part of the same complex) to Morrisons Hmm Sad

CockyPants · 09/06/2012 12:04

World lunch? Sounds v posh, MM. I need to know..

manchestermummy · 09/06/2012 12:04

Cocky I hate the food in the cafe, but DD1 acts like it's Michelin starred quality. Morrisons has gone up in my estimation since they stopped pre-bunching and pricing the bananas. Simple pleasures.
