to think Morrison's is the Home of Scumminess?

There is a Morrison's on my way home from work, so I swing by to pick up essential cheapo petrol etc.

Last week, the woman behind me in the queue had:
-multipack of WKD Blue
-multipack of Red Stripe
-Tena Lady pads

  • cigarettes
-cough syrup And she was debating with her DP whether or not the syrup also contained alcohol.

Last night, I went in to pick up some juice, and the man standing by the display picked one up, opened it, drank from it, said 'Ahh that's better', winked at me, and continued shopping Shock

Plus every second person is missing at least three teeth. But it is cheap....

We have a town centre Asda - now that is scummy.

Yet the one in a suburb, not 2 miles from town centre, is considered quite well-to-do.

I shop at Aldi and Iceland. Never shopped at Waitrose Wink

I live in a 'rough' area (although that's what people who don't live here think, it's quite nice actually)

Scummy people everywhere. I heard that Ocado only deliver because when they opened a shop people kept leaving their staffies outside and insisted on bringing their babies in with Fanta in the bottle. Wink

RevoltingPeasant · 19/04/2012 17:57

Okay so obviously IABU! Well, obviously I am, because I shop there and so am massive hypocrite........

It might be more area-connected, OP.

Although...I don't shop at Morrisons, but it does look a rather dreary place, a little like Asda,

RustyKuntz · 19/04/2012 17:59

I only go to the naice Asda (if I ever have to go - ie school uniform) I get a nervous tick going into the town centre one.

Morrisons - never really had much to do with the shop, other than on holiday and we use the one in Lisekard (Liskard?)

Agincourt · 19/04/2012 17:59

I love our Morrisons, it's not scummy at all.

I really don't think it's very pleasant to mock people who have poor dentistry either. It's usually through poverty that they have teeth missing or poor dental hygiene

RevoltingPeasant · 19/04/2012 17:59

StepAway - I was kidding about Plym, hence the Wink. But really do you find it snobby? Not my experience at all - at least where I live there is not a lot of money and most of it is pretty run down and grim. But people are warm and friendly, which is one good thing.

Hate hate hate our local Morrisons. Rough and rubbish unlike the other supermarkets in the area (including Aldi). YANBU.

Mrsjay · 19/04/2012 17:59

do they just pick up nice bottles of wine and some cuban cigars in your waitrose then Hmm stop being so frigging nosey what people put in their baskets our morrisons is fine its a supermarket for crying out loud

member · 19/04/2012 17:59

Ours has the freshmarket thingy with water sprayed over the veg & more exotic fruit/veg than I've seen before in a British supermarket. I also think they do good meat compared to other supermarkets where you can buy proper cuts like skirt & salmon cut silverside as opposed to "braising steak" or "beef roasting joint".

FizzyLaces · 19/04/2012 18:00

I think it is the home of scrumminess and I shop there. Mine is new and lovely and cheap.

Mrsjay · 19/04/2012 18:01

oh yes fags int he Q if you are in england they are in a locked box Hmm well spotted

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 19/04/2012 18:02

actually I meant I thought you sounded snobby revolting Grin if its the Plymstock one its fine, outland Road seems ok too but I am rarely in that one. Are there any more?

LadySlatternlysHoover · 19/04/2012 18:02

I shop in Morrisons and have all my own teeth.

YABU

RevoltingPeasant · 19/04/2012 18:02

Lilyloo · 19/04/2012 18:02

We don't have a local Morrisons but do use the one in Horsforth when we go visit il's seems very nice.
Actually think it seems quite a normal shop for cigs and booze, not sure the tens lady and cough syrup are anything to be shocked about.

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 19/04/2012 18:03

The fish is great.

RevoltingPeasant · 19/04/2012 18:03

StepAway- guilty, am totally snobby and precious, as reflected in my NN Grin

pingu2209 · 19/04/2012 18:03

You are Totally Unreasonable - ASDA is the Home of Scumminess.

member · 19/04/2012 18:05

The poorest behaviour I've witnessed in a supermarket was in Sainsburys where two men in the 65 - 75 age bracket were shouting & calling each other "fucking arseholes" & squaring up to one another. I think it was over a naice wine & done in plummy accents though, so probably doesn't count.

Mrsjay · 19/04/2012 18:05

I still cant work out why the ladies shopping basket was scummy sometimes i have bottles of vodka and a packet of paracetamol and cheap asda cola in my basket , Is that scummy ,

MissKeithLemon · 19/04/2012 18:05

Oh no OP, I avoid that one if at all possible; full of know-it-all scummy studenty types away from mummy and daddy for the first time. Nothing worse than an educated scummer in my book Wink

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 19/04/2012 18:05

Grin but which one were you in?

RevoltingPeasant · 19/04/2012 18:05

Fair nuff pingu. Leeds Asda was not that scummy BUT all the veg was basically coagulated water which dissolved 16 minutes after purchase.

OP posts:
Mrsjay · 19/04/2012 18:06

headinhands · 19/04/2012 18:07
