to think Morrison's is the Home of Scumminess?

There is a Morrison's on my way home from work, so I swing by to pick up essential cheapo petrol etc.

Last week, the woman behind me in the queue had:
-multipack of WKD Blue
-multipack of Red Stripe
-Tena Lady pads

  • cigarettes
-cough syrup And she was debating with her DP whether or not the syrup also contained alcohol.

Last night, I went in to pick up some juice, and the man standing by the display picked one up, opened it, drank from it, said 'Ahh that's better', winked at me, and continued shopping Shock

Plus every second person is missing at least three teeth. But it is cheap....

Actually when I had the virus from hell and was coughing my lungs up Tena Lady came in very handy. Blush My pelvic floor failed me. Sad

hermioneweasley · 19/04/2012 20:34

The central Leeds Morrisons is horrific and full of people who smell of piss. But the Kirkstall one is lovely and flagship, dontcha know.

WhaleOilBeefHookedIWill · 19/04/2012 20:35

I had a horrendous chest infection after my son. I was coughing pissing and haemorrhaging all over the shop

storminabuttercup · 19/04/2012 20:36

zukie that's awful Sad

FunnyLittleFrog · 19/04/2012 20:43

My Morrison's is ace. YABVU .

WhaleOilBeefHookedIWill · 19/04/2012 20:43

Not Morrisons shop mind you

ThatsYouThatIs · 19/04/2012 20:43

I used to work in the Morrisons in the centre of Leeds. It wasn't even very nice 15 years ago.

I quite like Morrisons though. It's better than ASDA.

Oh, and there's nothing wrong with Leeds. I love living here.

Sparklingbrook · 19/04/2012 20:43

Grin Whale. No pissing etc in Morrisons.

Birdsgottafly · 19/04/2012 20:44

I must be rough as fuck, because i need it explaining what is wrong with that shopping list?

Most people who don't have teeth is because of neglect during childhood and they were never told the importance of dental care (not just through drugs), i'd like to know were all these cheap dentists are that thoseon a lower incomne can access cosmetic dentistry.

FunnyLittleFrog · 19/04/2012 20:44

Agree about central Leeds one though. Student hell. I shopped there before the kirkstall one was built .

Sparklingbrook · 19/04/2012 20:46

The Morrisons in Paignton was interesting at 2pm on a Saturday afternoon in August. Self catering hell. Sad

piratecat · 19/04/2012 20:49

i love our Morrisons. Everyone shops there, i live in a rural town. It's great prices, good quality.

You can't judge it by a few pissed up bods.

piratecat · 19/04/2012 20:53

lol sparklingbrook, i live in south devon too, and the one prob is Morrisons on a bank holiday weekend.

ie no food. i curse and swear every time!!

Sparklingbrook · 19/04/2012 20:55

Pirate it was so busy we came out with a loaf and a cricket set. Grin

ButteryBiscuitBase · 19/04/2012 21:06

Oh I see! I was hoping it would be something more exciting that would justify her so called scummyness! So basically a lady who likes a drink and is a smoker and has a weak pelvic floor is scummy? If their basket had contained a bottle of expensive red wine, some bottles of real ale a packet of hamlet cigars, some tampax and some beechams would they have been scummy still?

Sparklingbrook · 19/04/2012 21:08

She may want to ditch the smoking and maybe save money on the cough syrup and therefore the Tena Lady.

SingingSands · 19/04/2012 21:09

How exciting, I live in Horsforth and have never seen it mentioned on MN before. I shop in Horsforth and Kirkstall Morrisons and they're fine!

waves to the Leeds MNers

ButteryBiscuitBase · 19/04/2012 21:11

Yes but if she was scummy she probably had at least 10 kids so tena lady would be a staple on her shopping list.

BustersOfDoom · 19/04/2012 21:13

You aren't wrong about the central Leeds one. I used to work close by and called in first thing to buy milk most days. I saw one of DP's former colleagues most mornings at 8.30am buying his Special Brew and cider along with a gang of his pals. He was a full blown alcoholic by then and had lost his job but was always lovely to me, always greeted me as 'princess' although I was pushing 30 back then and asked after DP.

I shall probably regret complaining about this as I get older but the shop always seemed to be full of pensioners at lunchtime. Why, if you've got all day would you go to a supermarket at lunchtime that is in the middle of a city centre and used by loads of office workers on their break?

Dolcelatte · 19/04/2012 21:44

The one at Welwyn Garden City is excellent, very clean and well run with a good choice of products. The staff are extremely helpful and the manager really engages with the customers. It doesn't feel 'down market' at all. There is a fresh meat counter and fish and also cheese and delicatessen, as well as an excellent bakery. What's not to like?

The Morrisons rib eye steaks are excellent and I speak as someone who is extremely fussy about her meat!

I also have a local Waitrose and annual Ocado pass, so I alternate between Waitrose and Morrisons, but I wouldn't put one above the other.

Some items such as Worcestershire and tomato sauce were available in Morrisons before Waitrose.

So shop somewhere else or maybe move somewhere else.....

HexagonalQueenOfTheSummer · 19/04/2012 21:46

I find Morrisons a depressing store. Not because of the customers but because our local one is decorated in dull, drab, brown shades and is like a throwback store from the 70s or 80s. I really cannot bring myself to go in there I hate it that much

CrumpettyTree · 19/04/2012 21:54

Ours is nothing like that. It must be where you live.

workshy · 19/04/2012 22:08

the Morrisons in the Merrion is awful and stinks of wee (leeds centre)
the Morrisons in Yeadon (near Leeds/bradford airport) is a 70s throwback (but they ID me for booze so i will forgive them)
the Morrisons in Guisely (just dwn the road and still a Leeds postcode) is nice but poor parking
The Morrisons in Morley (still Leeds) is ok and the man who works on the butcher's counter is lurvely!

but the Kirkstall one is beautiful! (even if I did protest about it being built)

bit further afield -Castleford one opposite the bus station is lovely but the customers aren't (see original description of Morrisons shoppers by OP)

Snowboarder · 19/04/2012 22:11

Nowt wrong with Red Stripe. I can't eat my Jerk chicken without it. Grin
