to think Morrison's is the Home of Scumminess?

RevoltingPeasant · 19/04/2012 17:45

There is a Morrison's on my way home from work, so I swing by to pick up essential cheapo petrol etc.

Last week, the woman behind me in the queue had:
-multipack of WKD Blue
-multipack of Red Stripe
-Tena Lady pads

  • cigarettes
-cough syrup And she was debating with her DP whether or not the syrup also contained alcohol.

Last night, I went in to pick up some juice, and the man standing by the display picked one up, opened it, drank from it, said 'Ahh that's better', winked at me, and continued shopping Shock

Plus every second person is missing at least three teeth. But it is cheap....

I absolutely bloody LOVE Morrisons, primarily because we are overrun with sodding Tescos here. I would LOVE a Morrisons up the road and there has been talk of one......I am waiting with baited breath and praying.

AvocadoAndFitch · 20/04/2012 08:30

I have a 10% discount card for Morrisons so I always shop at my local one. I find it depends what time you go, to what people are there. 7.30pm on a Friday - Hmm 9.30am on a Monday - lovely display of boden.

duckdodgers · 20/04/2012 08:52

you dont have Sainsburys wholemeal bread on your shelves, why not?
umm because we're Morrisons

RevoltingPeasant · 20/04/2012 08:56

Oh gawd I honest to goodness hadn't seen the Tena Lady/ cough syrup connection and now feel a right biatch.

Blush

I was just putting it down cos it was there and whatnot. It was more the fact that she was poring over the cough syrup to see if it also had alcohol.

as my younger sis would say.

Still think the decor is horrible and the bloke drinking out of juice cartons is ro-ough.

However, I accept that I am a stuck-up cow for thinking these things Wink

Also I was not slagging off Leeds!!!! Just the Merrion Centre Morrison's. And I challenge anyone to go in there for a weekly shop and NOT slag it off!

This is a supermarket where the juice aisle is labelled 'mixers' and there is a whole section devoted to 'frozen potato shapes'. For real.

ButteryBiscuitBase · 20/04/2012 09:59

I totally agree about the decor, I'm from the homeland of morribobs (as some people round here call it!) My local store is I think the first one that was built and it is diarrhoea brown and yellow! I sometimes tag along with my mum when she does her thursday big shop and it is cheaper than tesco.

Fleurdebleurgh · 20/04/2012 10:32

Ive found that Morrisons in the south (London/Herts area) are all vile, but the ones in the north are loads better.

WMDinthekitchen · 20/04/2012 10:34

Gordon's gin is the same wherever you buy it. It can be a lot cheaper in Morrison's!

thegreylady · 20/04/2012 13:25

Ours is wonderful-a real butcher, excellent meat and the biggest variety of fresh fruit and veg I have ever seen anywhere. We have Tesco,Sainsbury's and Asda and a small Waitrose but morrisons is the best for quality and value for money.
I even quite like the cafe-dh and I regularly have scampi and jacket potato there and it is lovely [whole tail scampi and a decent salad as well as the potato] and only £4.99.
I live near Shrewsbury and have been told that the Wrexham one is even better!

ArtVandelay · 20/04/2012 13:46

No, YABU, Morrisons is really nice and good value. The people that work there are very helpful. You people living in England don't know youre born with your supermarkets.... Angry Envy

And I take exception to your comments about the woman's shopping, I enjoy drinking, smoking the odd fag, sometimes have a cough and as for the Tena Lady? Have you never had a baby and then sneezed anytime in the following 6 months? How is bladder weakness a moral failing?

The man drinking the juice was utterly foul though. I've never seen that before anywhere.

Spirael · 20/04/2012 16:07

The whole of the Merrion Centre is fairly dire... It's not just limited to Morrisons!

And YABU to shop in Leeds Central Morrisons, when there's Sainsbury's, Waitrose, Tesco or M&S Food Hall also within Leeds City Centre!!

Alternatively, go to the Kirkstall Morrisons. It's amazing!

RubyLovesMayMay · 20/04/2012 19:26

Spirael Im aware there's other Supermarkets in the city centre of Leeds but who can afford to do their weekly/monthly shop in M&S food hall??

Morrison's is cheaper, didn't used to live there only used to do shopping there, hardly Beirut

MarySA · 20/04/2012 20:01

I think Morrisons is an improvement on Tesco's but that wouldn't take much. I hate Aldi though I know lots of people love it. I'd get most of my food from M&S if I could afford it. But I can't. But Asda is great. Because always when you go there you see kids far worse behaved than your own.

Spirael · 21/04/2012 16:59

That's true, full shops in M&S would be very extortionate! The Sainsburys isn't too bad though for prices and products, especially with a Nectar card and using the deals available.

Admittedly I'm only picking up odds and ends in town at lunch, usually. My weekly shops I do online.

sheepgomeep · 21/04/2012 17:35

zukiecat Shock

I worked for sainsbos and left in 2006, they treated me like shit when I was pg with dd3, I left when I was 12 weeks gone and never went back.

sheepgomeep · 21/04/2012 17:37

I have a horrible cough and have to wear tenalady Blush atm, its very embarrassing

ArielThePiraticalMermaid · 21/04/2012 17:39

Lovely thread with lovely sentiments.

AIBU to think that Waitrose is the home of the stuck up snob who thinks she is too good to shop anywhere else?

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 21/04/2012 17:41

YES, YABVU, Waitrose is the home of the discerning shopper who appreciates good quality and good service.

RevoltingPeasant · 21/04/2012 17:48

Erm Ariel I don't shop at Waitrose, I shop at Morrison's - that's why I was in there! Have apologised for the TenaLady thing, I wasn't making a specific comment about it.

zukie - dear God. That is absolutely horrific.

OP posts:
ArielThePiraticalMermaid · 21/04/2012 17:49

Ok, but "scumminess" isn't nice :)

RevoltingPeasant · 21/04/2012 17:52

Well what would you call somebody drinking out of a packet in the supermarket? Confused look tbh it was supposed to be a humorous thread - I accept I probably have a catty SOH. I don't mind people laughing at me though.

OP posts:
Nenufar · 21/04/2012 17:57

My DH loves Morrisons and can often be found wearing his scruffiest tracksuit queuing with a selection of value products.

He is an Oxbridge educated professional who hates dressing smartly and spending money.

In our local Morrisons they sell pigs trotters. I would love to know who actually buys them!

ArielThePiraticalMermaid · 21/04/2012 17:59

I'm probably just over-offended because I have been known to shop there in the absence of anywhere better

But that's West Cornwall for you.

KellyKettle · 21/04/2012 18:10

Oh storminateacup I had appalling customer service at Asda in Glasshoughton. Bought my items at the cigarette counter holding tiny DD1 in my arms. The cashier just piled all my stuff on top of a carrier bag and refused to put it inside for me.

I had to lie DD on the counter and pack the bag myself.

Horrible attitude.

I like Morrisons in Guieseley but Leeds Merrion is a bit special. I think it seems worse because of the lack of windows. I shopped there as a student until Kirkstall was built.

gladbag · 21/04/2012 18:16

I bought some juice in that very Morrisons this very afternoon Shock [runs to fridge to check seal]. It's an annoying place at the mo as I can't find anything, what with them upgrading it and moving stuff around, but I don't think its particularly scummy. I do a weekly shop there and and I'm dead middle class. And have all my teeth.
