to insist that DH takes tomorrow off

Have namechanged because I'm embarassed by the immaturity of this
DS doesn't go back to school until Tuesday so I'd asked my brother and sister who are both back from university at the moment to look after them. My brother and sister are both Tottenham supporters whilst DH is a Chelsea fan (I couldn't care less). We went to the pub to watch the game with a few of DH's friends as well. DH's team won and after it ended he started goading them even called them a couple of cunts.
They decided to leave and him and one of his friends suggested that they were off to make love to each other because that is what Tottenham fans do apparently, I briefly said see you tomorrow and my sister said fuck that we're not going out of our way to help him. We now have no childcare for tomorrow, AIBU to say that DH should take the day off to deal with it as he has caused this problem.

sounds a bit more than teasing, more like humiliation and called a "cunt".

i get the point about dumping on colleagues but let him use a day's holiday, not phone in sick.

ilovesooty · 15/04/2012 21:48

Am I the only one who thinks your siblings are in the wrong, it you agree to do something then you can't just cancel at the 11th hour because your team lost a football match and you got teased about it

No, I said I didn't think much of their behaviour - though the husband was appallingly rude. They, however, shouldn't be leaving the blameless OP up shit creek.

ChaoticAngel · 15/04/2012 21:48

It wasn't just teasing though. Football means nothing to me but if I did support a team and they lost then, yes, I'd expect teasing. Being called a cunt is not teasing.

YANBU your DH needs to sort childcare out.

MissBetsyTrotwood · 15/04/2012 21:48

They all behaved badly. They've all let you down.

But YANBU to get him to take the day off.

ilovesooty · 15/04/2012 21:49

He certainly shouldn't be phoning in sick. That's fraud.

ChaoticAngel · 15/04/2012 21:49

It doesn't have to be the OP up shit creek. It's up to her DH to sort it out.

mynewpassion · 15/04/2012 21:50

Phone in sick. Save your holidays.

scuzy · 15/04/2012 21:51

lol @ fraud

ilovesooty · 15/04/2012 21:51

The family chidcare is up shit creek, but yes, her husband should sort it.

paticker · 15/04/2012 21:51

He told your brother and sister were off to make love to each other Shock. OP sorry you have been put in this position by your husbands poor behaviour, I'd be demanding an apology for having to witness the abusing of my family and then he go see them and grovel at their feet.

Of course it's fraud. I don't see what's funny about that - it's indefensible.

CalmaLlamaDown · 15/04/2012 21:52

I rather admire your sister for telling your dh to get stuffed, she had just been called an incestuous cunt, thats a bit more than teasing in my book..

Absolutely not. I think anyone who does deserves sacking.

scuzy · 15/04/2012 21:53

most people have a certain number of days allowance for uncertified sick ... in the grand scheme of things its hardly fraud.

ilovesooty · 15/04/2012 21:54

Yes, those days are for if you're actually to ill to go in.

scuzy · 15/04/2012 21:54

so if someoen rings in sick how do YOU determine if they are telling the truth and its not "fraud"? send pic of limb hanging off??

scuzy · 15/04/2012 21:55

define "ill".

snooter · 15/04/2012 21:55

Agree very rude & unacceptable of siblings to cancel the arrangement.

mynewpassion · 15/04/2012 21:55

Phone in sick and make the children watch the game (again), I say.

ilovesooty · 15/04/2012 21:55

You have to trust your employees to be truthful, obviously.

Isn't this sort of thing what football is about. I've seen scenes similar to what the OP describes and whilst I was initially shocked by it, football fans have told me that its banter that is part and parcel of the game so it seems strange to me that they are going to hold grudges*

  • I know next to nothing about football
scuzy · 15/04/2012 21:57

lol. good luck with that line of thinking then ilovesooty.
