To have secretly giggled at overhearing daughter's swearing

Eldest daughter's got a couple of friends over for a sleep over, and they're all up in her room armed with duvets, chocolate and a DVD. As I walked past her room I heard them all in fits of giggles and she said that her friend was a 'fucking dozy cunt' at which point the friend responded that she didn't have a 'dozy cunt' and they all started giggling again. They would be mortified if they knew I'd overheard them but for some reason it just made me giggle, is that really bad?

depends how old your daughter is really.. if I heard my daughter using that word, I would tell her how disgusting it sounds..

WorraLiberty · 12/04/2012 21:47

At any age I would have gone straight in and had a word with them.

upahill · 12/04/2012 21:48

Yeah, it's bad.

mummmsy · 12/04/2012 21:48

i woulda laughed my ass off ;-) often wet myself laughing when my toddler swore Grin

curiositykitten · 12/04/2012 21:49

For me, there's an element of pride when my DC use swear words in the correct context. Mine are likely much younger than yours though Blush

whackamole · 12/04/2012 21:49

I don't think I would have said anything, but I would have probably say something tomorrow morning and ensure that she realises having a giggle with friends is one thing, saying it to other people (or even within hearing) is not on!

WorraLiberty · 12/04/2012 21:50

Pride? Confused

Annpan88 · 12/04/2012 21:52

I think its quite funny. In the privacy of her room with her friends, not in public. I think most kids swear. She seems to respect you enough to not swear at/infront of you

LentillyFart · 12/04/2012 21:53

She seems to respect you enough to not swear at/infront of you

For now.

WorraLiberty · 12/04/2012 21:56

I'm far from a snob but kids calling each other 'fucking dozy cunts' sound like they'd be better suited to Jeremy Kyle.

TheSockPuppet · 12/04/2012 22:00

kitten, how does that make you proud? Confused

ApocalypseCheeseToastie · 12/04/2012 22:03

I wouldn't happy tbh.

And it wouldn't sound great if she's doing it in public either.

mummmsy · 12/04/2012 22:03

SockPuppet i think it takes a degree of intelligence to use words in the appropriate context - should it be any different with a 'swear' word. they are still after all, only words...why should previous poster be any less proud than with any other words?

gargent · 12/04/2012 22:04

Why is it funny? Confused I remember when my brother called me a cunt, my dad shoved a bar of soap in his mouth he didn't do it again.

BreeVanDerTramp · 12/04/2012 22:05

How would you feel if you heard her say the same thing to her friend on the school bus? Or A younger child overheard?

I would be mortified!

WorraLiberty · 12/04/2012 22:07

Indeed Bree or to her parents/teachers.

Or is a child calling someone a fucking dozy cunt ok as long as the abuse is directed at another child?

blapbird · 12/04/2012 22:07

I used to talk like that with my friends, aged 15 (prepare to cringe)... I remember saying "I'm going to get my clit pierced" and my dad walking really fast through to the next room, I had been drinking with my girlfriends I never did know if he heard but still shudder at the idea of him hearing me say that.
I never talk like that now and VERY rarely swear any way I think you are most definitely NBU- it is funny!

blapbird · 12/04/2012 22:09

I think it's trusting that she wouldn't say that in non appropriate situations.

WorraLiberty · 12/04/2012 22:09

But the OP has forgotten to add that teensy weensy bit of information like how old her DD actually is.

tethersend · 12/04/2012 22:10

They are just trying out swearing, with each other, jokingly.

I really don't see a problem at all.

blapbird · 12/04/2012 22:12

I went to a twee primary school in the country side, age 7 in the field we used to get as far from the teachers as possible sit in a big circle and take it in turns to say all the swear words we knew, it's just cute.

localyokel · 12/04/2012 22:13

She's 15.
If she swore like that in front of us, or her teachers then I would be mortified. But surely it'd be hypocritical to tell her off when I swear in private too

WorraLiberty · 12/04/2012 22:16

I imagine you drink alcohol and have sex in private localyokel?

She's your DD and if you find that sort of language funny from her mouth, that's your perogative.

Nothing anyone here can say will change your mind.

Horses for courses

mummmsy · 12/04/2012 22:16

15?!?! a smart double entendre...

HOMEMADECHUTNEY · 12/04/2012 22:16

Well maybe I'm from another planet, but I cannot ever envisage a time when hearing one of my dc swear like that would 'make me giggle' Hmm
