To not want to live in a country where it's ok for men to piss openly on the roadside

Twice in a week
With no shame at all
Last Sunday a cyclist on a country - but busy- road
Today in a busy A road a coach had pulled over and a dozen blokes were overtly slashing on both sides of the road
I'm no prude - but it's not nice
Or am I??

Are you in the UK? If so it is illegal so not ok. It won't stop it but maybe it will make you feel better. I doubt there are many countries where it doesn't happen to be honest.

backjustforaminute · 08/04/2012 18:39

Are you in France, OP?

TunipTheVegemal · 08/04/2012 18:41

I saw this the other day and was surprised quite how open the guy was being. He'd turned off the A road into a side road but was only parked a few yards down it and was in full view and because he was side-on I could see his willy and his stream of piss and everything rather than just a back like you normally see.
I'm not a prude either but that just struck me as bloody rude and ill-mannered of him! Being that blatant and making no effort at all to be discreet is just 'I don't give a shit about anybody else' behaviour.

alittlebitshy · 08/04/2012 18:44

We saw this happening in S Africa recently too - so clearly happens the world over.

CrystalMaize · 08/04/2012 18:44

Definitely not ok. Yuck!

GilbertandGeorge · 08/04/2012 18:49

Yuck! And spitting! Put them in the stocks, or what ever the modern day equivalent is.

margoandjerry · 08/04/2012 18:50

We get this on the steps of our primary school in central London. Vile.

These men have just left pubs/restaurants/the casino all of which have toilet facilities.

GilbertandGeorge · 08/04/2012 18:50

backjustforaminute, your post reminded me that in France, I saw a woman (around 60) take a SHIT in a park.

upahill · 08/04/2012 18:53

I've seen this in the UK, Spain, France, America,Poland and other places over the years.
Not nice.

carabos · 08/04/2012 18:59

Agree this is horrid.
We saw a guy pissing at the side of the piste recently. I've never seen anyone do that before and it seemed almost worse than any other sort of public pissing, possibly because it was so open and spoilt the snow.

KurriKurri · 08/04/2012 18:59

I saw a guy having a pee in the parking bit off a dual carriageway once, he was standing with his back towards the road, trousers and pants pulled down to his knees, arse fully on display - who the hell does that? Weirdo.

neuroticmumof3 · 08/04/2012 19:13

I drove about 100 miles today on busy A roads and in that time saw 3 men urinating by the side of the road. Made me [bushock].

Booboostoo · 08/04/2012 19:26

They do it all over the place here in France - yuk! When we had just bought our place we were walking on a little track between our house and the neighbour's place, when we saw the neighbour in his garder. I, rather exhitedly, made to go over to say hello, before DP could stop me...the guy was pissing (in our direction) and shook my hand afterwards!!!! This is the same bloke who walked out of his house totally naked when I was in our paddock looking for the dog!

backjustforaminute · 08/04/2012 19:30

OP YABU, by the way Grin it's gross. It happens all the time here in France, yuk!

gimmeabreak · 08/04/2012 19:31

turnip - i agree with you

The men today could have hidden behind the coach but no - it was almost brazen ...

booboostoo - eughhh!!! Maybe it's cultural?

gimmeabreak · 08/04/2012 19:32

I am in the UK btw, England

StringOrNothing · 08/04/2012 19:33

The Belgians are the worst for this IME

WorraLiberty · 08/04/2012 19:34

So based on 1 cyclist and a coach load of blokes pulling over for a piss, you've deduced you don't want to live in a country where it's 'acceptable'? Grin

It's not acceptable, which is why it's illegal.

Where will you be moving to?

JosephineCD · 08/04/2012 19:52

Where the hell are cyclists supposed to pee if they're in the middle of nowhere?

Maybe some people should be more discreet about it, but I don't have a problem with it at all. And it's not like I haven't done it before in an emergency. So have many other women.

TunipTheVegemal · 08/04/2012 19:57

As I read it, the OP's problem (and mine) is not with people pissing outdoors, it's with men making no effort at all to be discreet and just standing there doing it with their willies visible in public.

The normal thing to do is to find somewhere you can go behind a bush/hedge/tree, so you're not in full view of the road, even if you're not completely hidden, and this thread is about people who haven't even bothered to do that.

Anniegetyourgun · 08/04/2012 20:02

XH used to do it in the garden Angry

hormonesnomore · 08/04/2012 20:02

I seem to remember hearing on breakfast tv or similar that it's illegal unless done against the wheel of your vehicle.

So a man can piss on his tyres at the side of the road and be well within the law (providing he's not actually flashing his willy at you).

And - if a pregnant woman needs a wee in public, a policeman is obliged to lend her his helmet for the purpose (this just might be an urban myth though).

hormonesnomore · 08/04/2012 20:04

Anniegetyourgun - if you have a compost bin, it's good to wee in it. It helps things mature.

gimmeabreak · 08/04/2012 20:27

It's generally on the increase though isnt it? I'd probably only seen it a couple of times in my life and I'm no spring 'un!!

I've seen it maybe half a dozen times in a year

Fine to pee al fresco btw just show some respect

OP posts:
maybenow · 08/04/2012 20:34

Outdoor pissing in towns and cities definitely NOT acceptable (however drunk you are) but peeing in the country is a necessity sometimes.
A coach should stop at services but the cyclist cannot be expected to hang on for an hour or more to the nearest conveniences.
I pee outdoors quite often (on an all-day run, hike or mountain bike ride) in the countryside.
