To not want to live in a country where it's ok for men to piss openly on the roadside

gimmeabreak · 08/04/2012 18:28

Twice in a week
With no shame at all
Last Sunday a cyclist on a country - but busy- road
Today in a busy A road a coach had pulled over and a dozen blokes were overtly slashing on both sides of the road
I'm no prude - but it's not nice
Or am I??

I shouted at a man I saw blatantly pissing against a house (!) in the next street from me, yesterday afternoon. Fucking disgusting.

SkinnyVanillaLatte · 09/04/2012 15:19

Toads, given your explanation I stand by my viewpoint that exposing your penis is against the law in a situation such as the one I described.
He was, indeed, deliberately exposing his penis (he could have gone down to the tree line and been more discreet),and I was, indeed, shocked.

I was shocked because of my children being exposed to the display - I am not shocked by a (quite small) peeing todger as a grown woman. And my issue,is pretty much all about the lack of discretion - of course, when someone has to go desperately and there are no loos around they have to take a less conventional approach. But it really need not involve a grown person exposing their genitals.

ArtVandelay · 09/04/2012 15:19

My friend was telling me that the germans piss into litter bins. I've never seen that yet. But I do see lots of people rooting in the bins for bottles that you get 10cents back on - so that must be a pretty dangerous way to earn some pocket money.

I see people quite regularly going behind trees and hiding but still visible in the town which is pretty stupid/lazy during the day. Pissing into a field or somewhere where it drains is okay I suppose but yellow streams and puddles are not acceptable. Its stupid how women aren't given toilet facilities or at least massively less than men. I wish I could wee out of my little finger, very discrete :)

SkinnyVanillaLatte · 09/04/2012 16:00

ArtVandelay - now that would be handy!

Spuddybean · 09/04/2012 16:11

This doesn't bother me at all really. Apart from being jealous. Every bloke i know/have been out with pisses in the street in an emergency - Which usually constitutes walking home from the pub! (if they were in a town they would find a loo and never on someones house!). They just duck off discreetly and do it up against a tree. I have never been able to see their knob tho. I would be a bit miffed if i saw someone's cock. I have done it between cars on long journey home late at night.

If DP and i go out walking/climbing for the day and we are away from loos for about 6 hours we go where we can. We have to lag somewhere!

Come on, it's only piss!

pigletmania · 09/04/2012 16:17

It's disgusting, you would not spit in public, why wee. I have no issues with it being done discreetly, but making no effort to go somewhere private. I awas walking along a footpath which is usually busy near a school. , a man was stood facing it going for a wee, I was with my dd at the time, totally disgusting, a few seconds away were loads of bushes and foliage. Geeze make an effort will you

brighthair · 09/04/2012 16:36

I read this and thought ooh haven't ever seen anyone do this
Driving home 20 mins ago, child and man both by the side of a main road, having a wee Grin

TunipTheVegemal · 09/04/2012 16:40

When there's somewhere they could easily go nearby to be more discreet but they just do it visibly so passers by are treated to a view of their willy I don't think it's far-fetched to think there's an element of sexual exhibitionism going on.

(though not when it's children, obviously. If there's a man doing it right next to a child I would give him the benefit of the doubt and think he may be doing it for demonstration purposes.)

pigletmania · 09/04/2012 16:45

I think there is turnip. They want others to see them and get a thrillnoutbof it, also an element of laziness

MissGreatBritain · 09/04/2012 16:47

Don't mean to generalise or be sexist here, but you don't see many women doing it, do you? And for those of you who brave go out in the city centres at weekends, I expect you will disagree. But I've never seen a load of women get off a coach in the middle of the day and all have a piss.

SkinnyVanillaLatte · 09/04/2012 17:05

I would be very surprised to hear that anyone(in the UK) has been past a coach stopped in a layby , in broad daylight, with a few women squatting on the verge in plain view of the traffic having a pee. On that point I completely agree MissGreatBritain!

I would be equally as disturbed by that if I was with my children and the pee-ees were able to go more discreetly.

Oblomov · 09/04/2012 17:51

"If so it is illegal so not ok." post number 2, by happy. I didn't think it was illegal. Doesn't bother me. I let ds pee in the park, on his way home from school. My mum and dad stopped by the side of the road in the 80's. I can't see the problem, myself.

pigletmania · 09/04/2012 18:37

Depends how old your ds is oblomov, don't you remind him to use the loo before going home from school

TunipTheVegemal · 09/04/2012 18:40

I don't think anyone on this thread is objecting to al fresco weeing where necessary, especially for kids, we're talking about the men who don't make the slightest effort to be discreet.

SkinnyVanillaLatte · 09/04/2012 19:06

When I watch those 'Cop' programmes,it seems men people are always being fined for urinating in public places.I personally think this is a revenue raiser for the police and little to do with public decency if they're being discreet - more to do with highlighting the woeful lack of public conveniences with an attendant.

I also do not object to children peeing in public - although I've never had to with mine (more luck than judgement I guess). But I think the same rules apply when kids are involved - that discretion is absolutely required.

TunipTheVegemal · 09/04/2012 19:09

A MNer a month or so back posted about her elderly dad being told off by a PCSO for weeing in a bush on the way back from shopping (he normally used the supermarket toilet but they were closed). Revenue raiser sounds very likely.

SkinnyVanillaLatte · 09/04/2012 19:12

If I was stopped for peeing in a public place in circumstances where I was being as discreet as possible and there were no public loos available,I would refuse to take the fine and let them take me to court so I could argue my case.

But I'm a militant bugger Grin

AKMD · 09/04/2012 20:03

YABU. Obviously in the middle of the town centre, in doorways etc. is nasty but I think it's ok as long as the following rules are applied:

  • It's the countryside and you're weeing on grass/a hedge/something else like that.
  • You make the best effort possible to be discreet e.g. behind the hedge screened from the road.
  • You do not leave stinky poo around Hmm Use a bag r something and take it away with you!
gimmeabreak · 09/04/2012 21:09

i would never object to someone weeing if they even looked like they were trying to hide it

its the almost cocky arrogance that i find stomach churning (no pun intended)

startail · 09/04/2012 21:15

In Cornwall in winter you have to piss behind a gorse bush. They lock the car park loos.

SkinnyVanillaLatte · 09/04/2012 21:48

Just watch out for stinging nettles startail.

TunipTheVegemal · 09/04/2012 22:17

from a BBC article about myths about the law:

'Toilet stops

Legend: It is legal for a man to urinate in public, as long as it is on the rear wheel of his car and his right hand is on the vehicle. And pregnant women can legally relieve themselves in any public place, including into a policeman's helmet.

Evidence: Unfortunately for anyone caught short, if there is a witness, the law will not save you.

The 1986 Public Order Act makes "disorderly behaviour" in England and Wales, including public urination, an offence punishable with a fine, according to a Ministry of Justice spokesman.

Verdict: Myth. But the Law Commission does say a police officer may make an exception for an expectant mother.'

ToadsPornFrogsPawn · 09/04/2012 22:25

I saw a drunk man wee in a bin in the centre of Dublin. I was sitting outside a cafe having a drink, and he sort of leant against the bin in an odd way - his willy was higher than the opening in the bin for litterGrin. I couldn't see his knob but it was fascinating to watch
