to think this woman should have taken her children to the bathroom

At a soft play yesterday, and a woman has a portable potty for her DC, who were doing a wee/poo, in a place that serves food in the sitting area!

Dh didn't know where to look at the children (both about 3 and 4) were getting stripped off at the bottom, not because he finds hes a pervert, but because he found it uncomfortable, as he was in front of the table, and he could see everything, even when the woman was wiping the children's bottoms.

we moved table in the end, as we we ordered food, and didn't want to have a eyeful off poo. (which she then took to the ladies to empty)

I have a portable potty, however wouldnt dream of doing something like this.

Dh ended up saying something to the food assistant, as we were leaving.

YANBU, that sounds horrible.

MadamFolly · 07/04/2012 12:54

In some circumstanes it is ok to get the potty out, e.g outside when no loos in sight. Never if there is an available loo, especially not in an eating area

cronsilksilt · 07/04/2012 12:54

Ewwww

DameHermione · 07/04/2012 12:55

shitting in public = unreasonable

naked babies = not unreasonable

your DH obviously has ishoos.get him some therapy.

leftmysociallifeatthedoor · 07/04/2012 12:56

To be fair they weren't babies they were 3 and 4 ish. Not very dignified for them imo.

pigletmania · 07/04/2012 12:56

My goodness what a minger. Where there are loos you use them, if out and about you use a porta potty if you have one. That's what they are for

Softlysoftly · 07/04/2012 12:56

Ew yanbu there were toilets available

Seona1973 · 07/04/2012 12:57

she should have taken them to the toilets and used the potty there and not done it in front of everyone especially where people were eating - YANBU

ChunkyPickle · 07/04/2012 12:57

Nope, pooing in the same area as food is being served is grim, so YANBU.

Possibly in her defense though, if one child was about to go, then retrieving a 3rd child would be tough and the first child might not make it..

Also, mines' little so I've only been to a soft play once - but competition for the tables was fierce, so perhaps she was reluctant to leave it unattended/with just coats in case someone came and took her table/chair.

WorraLiberty · 07/04/2012 12:59

3 and 4yrs old???

Sorry but there's no way I wouldn't have pointed that out to the staff and asked them to get the Mother to take them to the toilet.

Kids should not shit in eating areas

SuePurblybiltFromChocolate · 07/04/2012 13:00

It is nasty.

But then I've seen the food they serve at soft play, and heard the stories about what happens when they clear out the ball pool. And the smell in those places . So I shouldn't think it made much difference [buwink]

SydSaid · 07/04/2012 13:01

Dame Hermione - I suspect the issues were more to do with seeing children shitting in public rather than seeing a naked child.

I would feel the same way - who wants to see a childs shitty arse getting wipes when you are sitting down for food?

CremeEggsandHam · 07/04/2012 13:04

Ewwww that's disgusting. Why on earth could she not have just gone into the ladies in the first place so they could go on the potty?!
There's some truly scroaty people out there.
Poor little 4 year old having to do it in full view of everyone as well, talk about not being allowed any dignity to poo in peace!

laughlovelife · 07/04/2012 13:06

No ball pool in this one, its a very well known one, and is the biggest in the north east, and very expensive,(with it being a BH weekend Hmm) I was having toast and tea, and DC and DH having bacon sandwiches, so not terribly bad.

I didn't think we were being UR, but when talking to friends they said it happens alot [boak]

I dont think dh has issues tbh, I think there is places where you expect to see naked children, and this for us wasnt one, even I was uncomfortable with it.

OP posts:
WorraLiberty · 07/04/2012 13:07

It's not the nakedness I would have complained about but the fact children were taking a shit in a cafe.

SamBrick · 07/04/2012 13:10

What Worra said.

Not nice to have to watch a 4yo having their bum wiped while trying to eat your bacon sarnie

laughlovelife · 07/04/2012 13:10

No that is what dh did complain about, he found the nakedness uncomfortable, as did I, (didn't mention that to the food assistant), just said he didn't want to be eating where children were openly going to the bathroom, when there was toilets to use.

WorraLiberty · 07/04/2012 13:11

I wonder if she lets them shit in restaurants too?

KatAndKit · 07/04/2012 13:11

Nope that's disgusting. Nothing to do with nudity, although that would not be necessary or appropriate for a 4 year old in that environment. But it is unhygienic to be pooing in a restaurant. I'd feel the same about someone changing a dirty nappy on a table in the middle of a restaurant area. People are eating!
It's not right for a 4 year old to be made to go to the toilet in full public view like that either. A four year old could have easily used the ladies toilets and in general, soft play areas would have child toilet seats surely?

namechangernumber9 · 07/04/2012 13:13

yuck

SuePurblybiltFromChocolate · 07/04/2012 13:15

What did she do with the loo paper FFS? And she must have had to leave them to empty it, surely, so it couldn't have been an issue to do with the table/leaving the children, could it?
People are odd.

NagooBunnytail · 07/04/2012 13:17

I work with the public. A woman once asked for 'some tissue' she then took a 4YO round the outside of the building to shit by the bins.

Why the hell did she not ask where the toilets were?

People are fucked up.

laughlovelife · 07/04/2012 13:18

she used wipes, and when the children ran off to play, she quickly emptied the potty.

Dont think we will be going again Grin

Cant believe people think this is acceptable or even a appropriate thing to do, the children were not fazed by it.

OP posts:
PurpleRomanesco · 07/04/2012 13:19

Some people really have no decency, I would have been tempted to tell her so.

Oh and what a stupid thing to say DameHermione, The assumption that a man has issues because he doesn't want to see a half naked child taking a dump in public while he is trying to eat, Look to yourself for 'ishoos'.

SuePurblybiltFromChocolate · 07/04/2012 13:20

Oh no, I don't think it acceptable at all. I think it's nasty.
