to think this woman should have taken her children to the bathroom

At a soft play yesterday, and a woman has a portable potty for her DC, who were doing a wee/poo, in a place that serves food in the sitting area!

Dh didn't know where to look at the children (both about 3 and 4) were getting stripped off at the bottom, not because he finds hes a pervert, but because he found it uncomfortable, as he was in front of the table, and he could see everything, even when the woman was wiping the children's bottoms.

we moved table in the end, as we we ordered food, and didn't want to have a eyeful off poo. (which she then took to the ladies to empty)

I have a portable potty, however wouldnt dream of doing something like this.

Dh ended up saying something to the food assistant, as we were leaving.

Fucking madness. Everything else aside the use of these stupid portable potty's at -any- this age is teaching the kids fuck all about toilet use in the real world.

Maybe I'm a bit weird about these things but I didn't use a potty at all. I mean we don't shit in the lounge why would part of the training involve somethin that would have to be untrained at a later date?

yanbu

puds11 · 07/04/2012 13:22

in places like that surely you are never that far from the toilet? could she not have just taken them in there? the smell must have been horrendous

PurpleRomanesco · 07/04/2012 13:22

the children were not fazed by it

That's one of the oddest things about this situation, My 4yo DS would be horrified at the thought.

takingiteasy · 07/04/2012 13:23

I think I would have had to have said something and I'm not one for speaking up.

Jaffacakeeater · 07/04/2012 13:25

It is disgusting BUT sometimes the loos are so revolting in those places, I would rather let my children shit in my handbag than take them to the toilet!!

GrimmaTheNome · 07/04/2012 13:25

I would have thought it was against food hygiene regulations. I mean, loos have to have 2 sets of doors between them and an eating area don't they? So how can deliberately getting a kid to shit in the middle of a cafe be OK?

WorraLiberty · 07/04/2012 13:33

It is disgusting BUT sometimes the loos are so revolting in those places, I would rather let my children shit in my handbag than take them to the toilet!!

And that's your right

As long as your handbag isn't next to me in a cafe, I couldn't care less.

It's vile to let your kids shit where people are eating and there's no excuse for it.

And I too would have thought it against hyiene regs Grimma

goodfreyedaysusan · 07/04/2012 13:58

you take the porta potty to the loo surely... (or put them on it in the car before you go in.. or if they are unreliable, pull ups.

lurkinginthebackground · 07/04/2012 13:58

I am chuckling at this thread.

Why on earth can't a 3 year old use a toilet?

Seriously a child of that age should be taken to the toilet, not encouraged to do its business in full public view, how utterly gross.

MickyDodger · 07/04/2012 14:01

Of course she was UR using a cafe as a toilet, but I agree that your DH has ishoos. The fact that you feel the need to point out that he's "not a pervert" means the pair of you do.

thatboysmum · 07/04/2012 14:10

YANBU. There is no excuse for that what so ever. If her children really couldn't use the toilets for whatever reason then she should have taken the potty into the toilets at least and had them use it in there. Not where people are eating ffs that is absolutely disgusting. At that age, it is proper grown people poo that stinks as well, GROSS!! Not acceptable at all, I really would have said something to her.

catsareevil · 07/04/2012 14:11

I dont think that not wanting to watch a 4 year old doing a poo and having their bottom wiped while you are eating means that you have 'ishoos'.

MickyDodger · 07/04/2012 14:14

No, but talking about perverts in and nakedness rather than the shit problem means you do.

DameHermione · 07/04/2012 14:16

Obviously shitting in a cafe is wrong - as every single reply has agreed.

However. The OP does indeed state they had particular problems with the childs nakedness. Thet's the ishoos bit.

remover the shit and the cafe from the discussion and the 79 replies would be pouncing on that.

OP were the family of a particular religious disposition? maybe they were Indigos or steiner educated or something not obvious but necessary to know about before full judgement is passed.

Jaffacakeeater · 07/04/2012 14:16

Sorry for being light-hearted about it!

Of course it's unacceptable to allow your child to poo where people are eating.

NigellaLawless · 07/04/2012 14:20

I think I know the poet play you are talking about, is it on the seafront? If so I go fairly often and have never seen anyone do that before, so don't let it put you off going again.

And for the people suggesting that the toilets may not horrible, if this is the poet play in thinking of they are really nice, a little cramped perhaps but no excuse not to use them!

I am gonna be on the look out for this woman every time I go now

NigellaLawless · 07/04/2012 14:21

Dammit [bugrin]

SkinnyVanillaLatte · 07/04/2012 14:27

Thats not acceptable.

Sue I've often wondered about ball parks and what they do when littlies wee or puke or whatever in them......do they hose them down,or what?(the balls not the kids, obviously [bugrin])

DialsMavis · 07/04/2012 14:27

Revolting! lately I have seen someone changing their older baby's (dirty) nappy on the bean bags in the library (where there are toilets) and a woman on Weymouth seafront stripping her toddler off to use a potty in the middle of the prom, then wondering about laughing with a potty full of piss. There were toilets nearby or if the child was really desperate why not just jump down onto the beach where they would have been semi sheltered by the wall?

NigellaLawless · 07/04/2012 14:37

Just notice the typos in my post, obviously I mean soft play not poet play!

Sweepitundertherug · 07/04/2012 14:39

As the toilets are close by and young was in a cafe, she should have taken them to the toilets.

How skanky.

Praguemum · 07/04/2012 14:46

Wrong on so many levels.

StealthPolarBear · 07/04/2012 14:50

I openedthis worried it would be me! In my defence we were at a picnic table outside, and it was just one 2yo, plus I have a pottete so no need to empty it but I did think my no what would mn think!

StealthPolarBear · 07/04/2012 14:53

Just noticed you are in the ne too! Which town is this soft play in? Tho I am in the lakes at the moment
