Not to shower every day?

Sausagedog27 · 28/03/2012 23:17

Just looking at threads about drought and how long it takes people to get ready and it got me thinking. I shower every other day (unless of course I've been particularly active or done something requiring need to shower ie gardening). I don't smell (as far as I know- dh says I don't!) all my other friends shower daily. Is this something we need to do daily or is it a society thing? I remember parents saying it was a weakly bath for them etc. with the drought situ I'm just wondering if this is contributing. Would you daily showerers consider reducing? Hmmmmm!

I shower every day. The idea of a 'body wash', something that is often mooted when these threads come up, is just grim.

FFS, just get in the shower. Wiping your own dirt and germs over your body with a cloth will never be cleansing nor refreshing, unlike hot, running water.

Grin We could all save up our ear wax and donate it to Shiney for her bikini line.

AnyFucker · 29/03/2012 00:13

AnyFucker · 29/03/2012 00:14

my FIL has an arse flannel

I kid you not

it is ceremoniously stored on the tray thingy that sits over the bath

just don't ever mistake it for the face flannel

AnyFucker · 29/03/2012 00:20

oh no! the arse flannel killed the thread

This thread is so funny, I only shower every 3rd other day but I do was towels after every use where does that put me?

Hopandaskip · 29/03/2012 01:32

one of my kids hair tends to smell dirty even when it is shiny clean shampoo fresh from the shower. It is a fungal thing he is prone to that causes scurf and is devil hard to get rid of (trust me, we've tried)

Don't assume smelly head is dirty hair.

Sausagedog27 · 29/03/2012 07:25

Gosh this thread got funny after I went to sleep. Lol about pubes sticking through leggings!

To the poster that said showers don't use much water, I read somewhere that modern power showers actually use similar amounts, if not more than baths (obviously if your showers is a crap trickle like mine then it's probably different!)

Ok, so if we are all rationed to a certain amount of water daily due to drought (not sure if could actually happen but humor me!) what water would you cut back on in addition to watering the garden, hosepipe ban etc- dishwasher/daily shower/toilet flushing/washing clothes?

I would rather have a bath at night than a shower in the morning. But I do save water by putting the dc's in the water after I've been in it!

EmmaCate · 29/03/2012 07:45

I shower and hair wash every three days... I probably smell but do wash between times. In summer more often as sweaty.

catgirl1976 · 29/03/2012 08:56

I shower every day first thing and then have a bath most nights. If I am going out in the evening I will also shower then. I love a nice hot shower and I don't feel awake until I have had one. Hair gets washed every other day but I can push it to three days if I am being lazy. It's far too very long so it's a pain to dry

Pontouf · 29/03/2012 09:46

I shower every day and wash my hair every day - it looks properly mental if I don't - my fringe pretty much stands upright (I have cowlick issues). If I was to cut down on water in a drought I think it'd probably be the dishwasher, I absolutely love my dishwasher (mainly cos it's a useful cupboard to hide dirty dishes till there's a full load), but I could go back to being organised and washing up after every meal. Just hate the odd mug/glass/teaspoon in the sink thing and with the dishwasher it isn't an issue. DS - 16mo - also has (a very shallow) bath every night, it is part of his winding down routine and helps him to get off to sleep. I wash my towels every couple of uses if it's me or DS using them, every time if it's DH. I don't know what he does to towels but they end up drenched and then get smelly after just one use. So gross.

NakedButNotFamous · 29/03/2012 09:50

I shower Mon-Thurs after my run then have a soak on a Sat. You don't need to shower everyday. Before I took up running it was every other day. I hate washing my hair everyday as it gets very wispy. If I am having a night out I don't wash it for 2 days and it sits perfect for me.

Mishy1234 · 29/03/2012 09:53

I feel really grotty if I don't wash every day and it has to be in the morning (not the night before). I also have quite fine hair which is a mess and quite greasy after being slept on, but on the plus side it dries very quickly.

I do think people are different and some can get away with not washing daily.

mrsscoob · 29/03/2012 10:00

I would LOVE to have the luxury of showering every day and bathing every night in relaxing oils! However I work every day, live in a house with 3 kids and a husband also trying to get ready for work and school and we only have one bathroom.

deliciousdevilwoman · 29/03/2012 10:05

I shower and wash my hair every morning. I even had a bit of a hissy following my EMCS with DD, because I was hooked up to a catheter and wanted to shower and wash my hair. They finally relented, and I was able to do it late afternoon....I just felt "human" again lol

CrispyHedgehog · 29/03/2012 10:09

I wash my hair every 2-3 days, have a shower or bath probably 5 out of 7 days.. on the other days I give myself a good scrub down with a microfibre cloth (much more effective than a flannel) and body wash.

I'm not stinky

shinecrazydiamond · 29/03/2012 10:10

mrscoob - and I live in a house with 2 kids, I work, I have one bathroom and I am a lone parent. I do all school runs and get kids ready in the morning too.

Sorry, your point is... ? Grin

shinecrazydiamond · 29/03/2012 10:12

No kisses and I do NOT look like les dawsons mate I'll have you know. AF is in my FB, she can confirm I'm gorgeous.

fuzzpig · 29/03/2012 10:16

I don't at the moment, but when I go full time (in a job that involves both manual handling and customer service so two reasons to shower more!) I will be dragging my sorry arse out of bed at half six every day for a shower. I don't think I'll do my hair each day though. It is really thick and would never dry. Maybe I'll alternate between hair washing and skin exfoliation
