Not to shower every day?

Sausagedog27 · 28/03/2012 23:17

Just looking at threads about drought and how long it takes people to get ready and it got me thinking. I shower every other day (unless of course I've been particularly active or done something requiring need to shower ie gardening). I don't smell (as far as I know- dh says I don't!) all my other friends shower daily. Is this something we need to do daily or is it a society thing? I remember parents saying it was a weakly bath for them etc. with the drought situ I'm just wondering if this is contributing. Would you daily showerers consider reducing? Hmmmmm!

no, please NO to the minging type thread.

I read them with horror. I have never had a boil/ingrowing hair/ear wax/ chin hairs/sheets on my bed for half the year/knickers worn for four days running.

IT IS DISGUSTING!

AnyFucker · 28/03/2012 23:37

looking forward to shiney's breakdown ?

cantspel · 28/03/2012 23:37

You will get the brigade who wash their towels after a single use out next, waving their box of Ariel and fretting about bum germs.

shinecrazydiamond · 28/03/2012 23:38

Actually, chin hair is not disgusting per se... the threads are. they make me heave a bit.

AnyFucker · 28/03/2012 23:38

see ?

shinecrazydiamond · 28/03/2012 23:39

I wash my towels twice a week.

I really am not excessive or anything. i just cannot understand the point of pride some folk have in walking about unwashed.

AnyFucker · 28/03/2012 23:39

oh yes, how many times does the bath towel get put back on the towel rail ? Wink

JasperJohns · 28/03/2012 23:39

I wouldn't smell but I wouldn't feel too clean if I didn't shower every day.

I have at least 2 showers per day btw.

And I know exactly what is meant by 'warm biscuits'!

shinecrazydiamond · 28/03/2012 23:39

i must sleep

in sheets changed yesterday

mind you, im swigging from a can of pepsi max at almost midnight so we all have our foibles right?

AnyFucker · 28/03/2012 23:40

and who gives a quick skwizz round the sink with it before hanging it back up ?

suburbophobe · 28/03/2012 23:40

I shower every day otherwise I think I smell

Wonder if it is so good for my skin....(too dry)

shinecrazydiamond · 28/03/2012 23:40

No one does that?

Gross!

AnyFucker · 28/03/2012 23:40

my work colleague pulls her sleeves down over her hands to open doors

Sausagedog27 · 28/03/2012 23:41

Ok, but if we do get a serious drought shine, what would you do? Showering (esp with our modern power showers) uses up so much water it seems so wasteful IMHO.

By the way I do wear clean undies everyday (well pants, trying to remember when last put fresh bra on, hmmm!)

Dare I say I don't even flannel my bits daily either?! Hurray for the mingers!

I shower every other day on average. Ideally I'd wash my hair every 3rd day, but sometimes more often, depending on activity level. My hair is very thick and looks much better the day after washing, tbh. I think straight, thin hair tends to show oiliness quicker.

If I'm working out regularly I will shower on those days, but I don't use much soap. My skin is fair and we just don't need our skin stripped of natural oils every single day.

AnyFucker · 28/03/2012 23:41

if I run out of bog roll, I wipe my wee-wee with it, before hanging it back up too

Bogeyface · 28/03/2012 23:42

And I will say it agaaain..,.....

washing your hair every day is what MAKES it greasy! Wash your hair every day and your hair over produces oils as they are being stripped out, hence if you miss a day, it is really greasy.

This was sent to me by my sister who thought I did mine every day as she does. The look on her face when she realised that mine looked as good as hers and I only wash it twice a week was priceless :o I take no responsibility for it but it looks like a good way to start getting to a twice weekly wash.

Here is the washing schedule:
Day 1 Morning
Day 2 Evening
Day 3 -
Day 4 Morning
Day 5 -
Day 6 Morning
Day 7 -
Day 8 Evening
Day 9 -
Day 10 -
Day 11 Evening
Then every 3/4 days after that. If washing on day 3 after previous wash then wash in the evening, if day 4 then morning or evening

AnyFucker · 28/03/2012 23:42

< ahem >

< fetches the smelling salts >

shinecrazydiamond · 28/03/2012 23:42

In a serious drought you say? Better not divulge - you'll be after me with pitchforks... but a small clue.. while water still comes out of my tap, i shall shower Grin

I open toilet doors with my knee or elbow, yes.

cakewench · 28/03/2012 23:43

Showering uses much less water than bathing, if you're comparing the two, btw. If there is water rationing, we're much better off with quick showers than trying to bathe ourselves.

AnyFucker · 28/03/2012 23:43

blimey, BF, that is military precision you have there

shinecrazydiamond · 28/03/2012 23:43

AF - Are you kidding me?

Fucking hells bells

doctordwt · 28/03/2012 23:44

Shower every morning- part of my wake-up routine and I'd feel sweaty and grubby if I didn't.

BUT - it takes a max of 3 mins I reckon, so water use is pretty small. I wash hair every 3rd or 4th day and hate the faff of those mornings - sometimes do hair in evening.

I have no issue with the biscuit people - I just couldn't imagine not freshening up with a shower every day.
