Not to shower every day?

Sausagedog27 · 28/03/2012 23:17

Just looking at threads about drought and how long it takes people to get ready and it got me thinking. I shower every other day (unless of course I've been particularly active or done something requiring need to shower ie gardening). I don't smell (as far as I know- dh says I don't!) all my other friends shower daily. Is this something we need to do daily or is it a society thing? I remember parents saying it was a weakly bath for them etc. with the drought situ I'm just wondering if this is contributing. Would you daily showerers consider reducing? Hmmmmm!

shine, we are talking ordinary office doors here, with my colleague

cantspel · 28/03/2012 23:44

Can i ask if those who shower/wash towels after a single use are on water metres?

toomuchmonthatendofthemoney · 28/03/2012 23:44

I have to shower every morning, not because I worry about smell as I am not a whiffs person [discovered on holiday from hell with minimal opp to wash so have scientific data not just my own belief on this Grin ) but because I need it to wake up properly, like dolly sings, gets the blood pumping. I just feel a bit blah until then.

FidgetPie · 28/03/2012 23:45

I shower every other day, but I only wash my hair about every 4 days - it looks fine and I don't smell (sometimes I do shower everyday if I need to / it's convenient). I think hair often adapts to how frequently u wash it, but I do tend towards dry hair and skin and find both benefit from not being washed too often - natural oils perhaps. Having said that DH has quite greasy hair and has to wash it daily.

Also i have long hair and it is a faff to wash it often - i don't like doing it at night as don't want to go to bed with it damp and wouldn't have time to do it in the morning on the days i go to work unless i got up earlier (and I can't be arsed to do to that!).

Similarly to me DD has a bath every other day- she also has dry skin and bathing often seems to make it worse.

I wash towels after every use but thats because the kids have a bath and chuck them in the wash and I cant bear to use them after they have been near dirty socks and pants. I remind them over and over to hang them back up, but they never do. Am thinking of telling them that they must put them in the laundry basket as in theory they will then hang them up :o

Bohica · 28/03/2012 23:45

shine how do you find time to do life?

I bath 4 days a week and strip wash every morning, I rarely need to shave anything, pits once a week, legs I can't remember the last time and I am in skirt suits 5 days a week.

I do not smell. Since joining MN I have asked my DH & DC and they all confirm I don't smell.

I also don't use any lotions or potions apart from day & night wrinkle cream on my face & neck.

AnyFucker · 28/03/2012 23:45

shiney, I use my toothbrush on the grout round the bath too

no, sorry, correction

DH's toothbrush

Love this thread, love how everyone is so different in their habits.

I shower every 2nd (or even sometimes 3rd) day, though I wash every day.
Only wash my hair in the shower so roughly twice a week
Clean knickers on in the morning and then a clean pair for bedtime (have to sleep in knickers, can't sleep without)
Clean bra every 2nd/3rd day
Wear make up every day now that Max Factor is my substitute for sleep.
Always wash my hands after the loo
Change bedsheets every weekend
Everyone has their own bath towel, washed at the weekend.

hatesponge · 28/03/2012 23:46

AF, I have a colleage who does that too. And she's forever applying antibac gel to her hands as well.

Can I say in my defence I do have clean underwear every day? Grin And I only use towels twice before washing.

However I do only wash my hair once/twice a week Blush

shinecrazydiamond · 28/03/2012 23:47

I am on a water meter, yes. Makes no odds to me.

I'm not OCD so will open normal doors, of course, but I wash my hands maybe every three or four hours as a rule - just so they are clean

Actually, im sounding like a twat now

DefiniteMaybe · 28/03/2012 23:47

I don't shower every day. I aim for at least every other day. It's such a faff. Can't take dd with me as my boobs=feeding time so she cries. I'm also not allowed to leave the room she's in so if someone else watches her for me she cries.
It takes at least 30 mins to blow dry my hair and then the same to straighten. Its just a big faff. I probably don't smell most of the time

ifancyashandy · 28/03/2012 23:47

Shower every day because I work out every day. I would smell bad if I didn't.

Plus, Evil Pixies visit me in the night and fuck with my hair. No amount of dry shampoo could address what those bastards minxes do to my tresses.

hatesponge · 28/03/2012 23:47

I also wear makeup every day though possibly dont always take it off at night

AnyFucker · 28/03/2012 23:47

< whispers >

I may have made some things up to gross shiney out

cakewench · 28/03/2012 23:48

oh yes clean knickers and socks every day. I wish I could get my BILs to learn about the clean sock trick. They shower daily but I'm pretty damn sure they just put on old socks after. bleh.

suburbophobe · 28/03/2012 23:49

I usually shower et al, i.e with hair. Every (other day) depends on the weather
(no point if it's raining and won't in the winter/cold)..

Cos I just wash and go.

Not greasy at all.

shinecrazydiamond · 28/03/2012 23:49

Well, LOADS of time for life! Shower takes five mins and that is when i whip over my legs/underarms etc with a razor, wash and condition my hair, face scrub, shower gel, body brush... all that in five mins. Then teeth, floss, mouth wash, serum, moisturiser. body lotion, deoderant. make up. hair. get dressed. Im done in 25 mins maximum.

At night in the bath i just use bath oil and relax and read or twat about playing scrabble on my phone.

doctordwt · 28/03/2012 23:49

Bogeyface is right about the hair. If I get caught out on my hair wash schedule - e.g. Getting paint in it the other day (thanks DD) and having to wash it again the day after I'd washed it - it always goes HORRIBLE - thin and greasy a day later. You have to fight the urge and leave it looking nasty for a couple of days - or you end up with it only looking ok when it's literally just been washed.

JasperJohns · 28/03/2012 23:50

Ahem - people who don't wash their hair often enough.

We can smell your hair.

Bogeyface · 28/03/2012 23:50

I dont change my knickers every day. I just dont wear them!

And yes I am being serious, I only wear them under dresses which get worn so rarely as to be statistically insignifiant! Oh and I bath every day but we currently are between showers so I dont have any choice on that one.

Bogeyface · 28/03/2012 23:51

Jasper, smelly hair only comes from fags, working enviroments or not washing for over a week. Twice a week is more than enough, ask a trichologist!

shinecrazydiamond · 28/03/2012 23:51

AF - too late for backtracking!

I love reading the slattern type house keeping threads too. I certainly am no domestic goddess [ cannot cook or work my dishwasher or grill ] but I have a clean and tidy home and it always makes me laugh when i read about those who hoover once a decade

AnyFucker · 28/03/2012 23:52

ah but JJ, we do wash our hair often enough

you would also have to be very, very close to me to smell my hair, as in lying on top of me

LeBOF · 28/03/2012 23:54

You must have to wash your jeans or trousers every day then, Bogeyface?

cantspel · 28/03/2012 23:54

I only shower every other day but my bits get washed everytime i use the loo( when at home) as i have a toilet bidet. You pull a little lever at the side of the loo and you get a nice jet of warm water shot up yer bum.
