Not to shower every day?

Sausagedog27 · 28/03/2012 23:17

Just looking at threads about drought and how long it takes people to get ready and it got me thinking. I shower every other day (unless of course I've been particularly active or done something requiring need to shower ie gardening). I don't smell (as far as I know- dh says I don't!) all my other friends shower daily. Is this something we need to do daily or is it a society thing? I remember parents saying it was a weakly bath for them etc. with the drought situ I'm just wondering if this is contributing. Would you daily showerers consider reducing? Hmmmmm!

We need to build more reservoirs (in specific areas eg the South East) and improve infrastructure. Leaking pipes lose gallons and gallons of cleaned water befor it ever reaches our homes.

Iggly · 30/03/2012 13:05

I haven't read the whole thread. But do you clean yourself eg face, pits etc every day even if no shower???

  1. Couldn't care less about carbon footprint. 2. Yes, in the UK you are doing really well at using your adequate rainfall and the amount your privatised water companies waste through leaks and incompetence I am sure would outweigh us using waste products from the gas industry to power our desalination plant. What a joke.
LeBOF · 30/03/2012 13:20

I do insist on showering dried semen off at some point before a public outing, even if I don't always wear make-up.

Methe · 30/03/2012 13:21

My understanding was that water is stored in resovoirs to be used, this is accumulated from rainfall and diverted rivers(?) we also use water from underground aquifers. When water is used it goes down the plug old, works it's way through the drainage system and eventually goes to a water treatment plant to be cleaned and put back in to the system... Now, what is the system? Does it go back in to an resovoir or does it go straight back to be reused by rougue showerers? It's got to go somewhere as it does still exist.. Wven water we consume is recycled eventually isnt is?

Are be we all scrimping to save the water companies money?

I don't think someone should be made to feel guilty about having a shower when the water companies are losing hundreds/thousands/millions of litres to leakage, it's just not on.

That's a house smell, that though, I reckon.

Igggly I came on to post exactly the same thing. Not showering your whole body is one thing but SURELY your bum and pits need a daily wash. I think that is gross if you don't personally.

LeBOF · 30/03/2012 13:43

You're right actually, LeQ- it must be that the house smells of them rather than vice versa. I remember getting into my ex's car a while after we had split up, and it REALLY smelt of him. Not in a good way. He was never one for namby grooming- I mean, he washed, but aftershave etc was a Bridge Too Far. So he had that biscuity aroma. Yes, I do see what you mean.

deliciousdevilwoman · 30/03/2012 13:44

I concur totally with LeQ and Theo.

Not that I spend my time surmising about the showering rituals of others'-unless they are in my vicinity and smell stale/bad, but I just don't get it. The showering a couple of times a week/"whores' wash" inbetwixt brigade. Some of you may get away with it, but most of you won't!

I have worked in office environments with some women who whilst not reeking of B.O. exactly, have had that fusty/stale smell....and worse, on occasion, the odour of ripe fangita-yewwww. These woman were carefully made up, the clothes looked pristine, but one could tell they hadn't showered. It's unpleasant and (usually) unecessary.

I don't confine these sentiments to women. I wouldn't tolerate being with a man who didn't smell as fresh as a daisy. One of the things I love about DH, is that his personal hygeine is meticulous. No matter how tired he is/what shift he is doing-he hits that shower. Some days he walks 4-5 miles within the context of his working day, but he will always smell faintly of shower gel/his own pheremones at the end of a 10 hour day.

Dirty buggers, daily shower or bath me and mine.

Yeuk to twice a week, smelly pigs

CalicoCathy · 30/03/2012 13:48

I quite wish I didn't feel the need to shower or bath every day. I know it isn't very environmentally friendly. But I just feel so grotty unless I do. And I love relaxing and unwinding in a bath at the weekend - it's my favourite bit off child free time.
I'd give up a lot of things before a nice hot shower - in fact if I was ever on Desert Island Discs I think a fantastic power shower would be my luxury item.

Old people do 'flannel washes' don't they? Christ, by the time you've filled a bowl of hot water and soaped yourself up - dripping all over the floor - and then scraped at yourself ineffectually with aforementioned flannel - you may as well have turned on the shower.

I couldn't give a toss about my carbon footprint. I don't take flights and shall redress the balance that way.

LeQ - Currently using REN rose serum...it's v nice. May I recommend?

CremeEggThief · 30/03/2012 14:46

Just managed to get some wet, used cat litter on my bare foot, while changing it. Yuk! Suppose I'd better hop in the shower now...

Flannels give me the heebie jeebies.

MIL drapes hers over the bath when she stays and then I have to move it and I just know where its been [horror]

And I like her but I just don't get strip washes - just get in the bath/shower - its nice - its not a punishment. Also with this warmer weather and people getting sweaty and applying suncream - surely you really do have to shower every day.

And I'm glad to know that about semen BOF - I was wondering if the infrequent bathers had infrequent sex Wink
