To think that parents that let their ds pull their pants down and pee in the street are just training them to pee anywhere they want when their older

I get really annoyed by parents that let their ds piss anywhere they want as soon as they need the loo. I once spotted someone letting their son pee up a tree in the communal gardens to my flat. I thought you would kill him if he was caught doing that when he's older and drunk. So why train him to do it now.

smaller bladders, not enough public toilets and boys and some girls piss anywhere when the're drunk no matter what their upbringing so yabu

CrystalMaize · 27/03/2012 21:56

YABU. When small children need to go, they need to go. Why make judgements about what they might do when they are older?

usualsuspect · 27/03/2012 21:56

Don't be so bloody daft

misspedantic · 27/03/2012 21:57

You don't need a public toilet, just go into a coffee shop or a restaurant.

Is it just weeing you're pedantic about? Your thread title would suggest so. Grin

TeacupTempest · 27/03/2012 21:58

Do you have children?

Sometimes small children need to wee at inconvenient times.

Needs must...

lurkerspeaks · 27/03/2012 21:59

Sometimes there just isn't a public toilet (or shop/ cafe nearby).

I hardly think peeing in public aged 5 equates to peeing in public (usually whilst inebriated) aged 25.

How many children have you potty trained?

WilsonFrickett · 27/03/2012 22:01

Would you rather a small child wet themselves?

I know it's hard potty training, I've done it but my point is that why let your ds piss up a tree or in the middle of a high street into a drain. It's not teaching them anything apart from I can pee in the street.

YABU

I think past a certain age, after potty training is well established, then yes, I see your point. But when they are little, what's the harm? I'm just glad my toddler tells me he wants to go so I don't have to deal with another accident and the tears that come with it!

Growing up my mother would let me pee in an alleyway if I desperately needed to go. Back then there were no such thing as coffee shops that we could pop into. Shops don't allow customers to use staff toilets so what's the alternative?

By the way, I don't piss in the street anymore.

NevilleBarnes · 27/03/2012 22:04

YABU. What would you want the child to do if there were no toilets around? Toddlers and young children often don't realise or communicate to the parent that they need the toilet until they really need it. They also find it harder to 'hold on' than most adults.
I let my 4 year old wee in the gutter or up a tree if he's caught short and there are no toilets nearby. Would you rather he wet himself?

troisgarcons · 27/03/2012 22:05

YABU ...and dare I say - just little bit contentious?

I have vague recollections of being hoisted over a drain as a 3yo - however I cant say, pissed, sober or midway, I've ever felt the need to shack my kecks and piss in a gutter since then.

Do you have a weak bladder OP? some form of childhood memory revisted?

misspedantic · 27/03/2012 22:05

No, I've seen older children doing it... 5ish. Someone else mentioned the potty training thing, I'm talking about boys in general.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 27/03/2012 22:05

I used to let my DS wee into a drain or somewhere discreet. He's now 12 yo and doesn't feel the urge to pee in public.

Girls are better at holding IME

WilsonFrickett · 27/03/2012 22:05

Excellent point HalfPast. I too am fully street continent, despite my mother occassionally holding me over a drain.

funkypigeon · 27/03/2012 22:06

Because pissing up a tree feels slightly more discreet than in the middle of the pavement, would you rather them do that?

Whatmeworry · 27/03/2012 22:06

I always wonder why parents who let their kids pee in the street don't train them to hold the can of lager at the same time. At least find an alley or something.

pinkyp · 27/03/2012 22:07

Grin I don't let my ds's "pee up against a tree" in the middle if town but if caught short my ds (3) has had a wee somewhere quiet etc. imagine if I let him wet himself he'd grow up thinking he could wee himself whenever he wanted Wink

YADBU - comparing a 2/3/4/5 year old desperate for a wee to pissed18/19 year old bladder full of beer....

CrystalMaize · 27/03/2012 22:07

Troisgarcons - no need for that!

NevilleBarnes · 27/03/2012 22:07

Is it common to see boys over the age of 5 peeing in the street? Can't say I've ever witnessed it myself.
