The one from Fathers4Justice, where they accuse MN of:

"carrying abusive and distressing anti-male content which promotes gender hatred against men and boys"
and, apparently, labels "men and boys as rapist, peados and wife beaters."

The ad has a lovely picture of a sad little boy with words like "rioter" and "homeless" and "sperm bank" written on his skin.

I am confused, as I have never come across a thread on here where people routinely call men paedophiles and rapists. In fact, usually, if someone implies that a man being left alone with a child is dodgy, posters will pile in and say "God, don't you know not all men are paedos.?"

As I understand it, this is a forum for discussion, not a political movement with a manifesto. There are many and varied opinions on MN, and the minute one opinion is aired, another will be along to refute it.

Or should I just laugh at F4J? The ad is quite gruesomely funny.

OP posts:

You dismissed a post which listed some of the difficulties experienced by women around the world as "statistics (which are not facts, by a long chalk), conjecture and personal opinion".

I have not said all of the things attributed to me in slowestwildebeast's post - posts from different posters are being conflated to try and make a point. Saying people have said things that they have not is bad form.

And yes, if I was able to see my child at a contact centre, I would do so. Unlike the OP, who dismissed the idea out of hand on the basis that it would distress the child, something there was no reason to think would happen.

SardineQueen · 17/03/2012 16:00

"I didn't want to go down the contact centre route, because I believed that his age it would have been too upsetting. "

Wouldn't it have been worth even trying it, and seeing how it worked out?

I don't get it.

SigmundFraude · 17/03/2012 16:03

I know what I said in that post, Sardine, you don't have to keep quoting it at me. I was referring to the posters tendancy to list statstics, conjecture and personal opinions in her posts as statements of fact.

That is not, as you are suggesting, proof that I don't care about the difficulties women face.

SigmundFraude · 17/03/2012 16:05

*statistics

slowestwildebeast · 17/03/2012 16:07

"I have not said all of the things attributed to me in slowestwildebeast's post"

I made reference to the post below, but haven't attributed other posters comments to you.

"And I don't understand why anyone who could see their child, would decide not to, and then whinge about it and totally disregard all practical advise that if offered. I guess I have more get up and go than that."

auschopper · 17/03/2012 16:07

SQ: I would be the same old story, I would turn up at the contact centre, and my son would not be there... no difference really...

Anyhow, I guess everyone has a limit, and to be honest, do I think I have given it a fair go... yes... would like to have continued to fight, yes... I am and would fight for what is right... I always have..

I am also battling a pretty major illness as well, so haven't got the energy to fight any more. I don't really want to get into it that much, but I have had a toxin in my body that firstly attacked part of my nervous system, and made my face droop, and ever since then I have been also battling glandular fever, I have been trying to recover for the last year, as well as dealing with this mess as much as I can..

SardineQueen · 17/03/2012 16:07

But you responded to her post with a list, with that.

I can't see that there are other ways to take it.

I understand that you harbour a dislike for that particular poster but in this instance it seems that you have thrown the baby out with the bathwater in your haste to rubbish her posts.

auschopper · 17/03/2012 16:08

All this mind you, with all my family, friends and support in Australia... although I do have a close circle of friends here....

SardineQueen · 17/03/2012 16:09

Don't you think it would have even been worth trying going to the contact centre?

And then when your son was not there, there would be an "official" record of it.

With which you could have made a case against her.

SardineQueen · 17/03/2012 16:10

All the while no-one is talking about the preposterous F4J activities.

SardineQueen · 17/03/2012 16:10

I have to go revise now.

It's been fun.

slowestwildebeast · 17/03/2012 16:12

Don't buy the Independent.

SigmundFraude · 17/03/2012 16:13

'But you responded to her post with a list, with that.

Oh please! I don't have a dislike for anybody. Stop being dramatic.

SardineQueen · 17/03/2012 16:16

What you said to her sounded pretty personal to me.

(Having cake instead of revising)

SardineQueen · 17/03/2012 16:17

New york cheesecake.

Not M&S though, more's the pity.

Onesunnymorningin2012 · 17/03/2012 16:18

A couple of people seem to think it's odd that aus can't use the CAB as his ex is using them. When I was going through my divorce and asked them for advice they told me that they could only give advice to one party or the other. In my case I was there first, so got the advice. In aus' case it sounds as if she got there first.

I think F4J have got this arse backwards - they should be lobbying government, not going after M&S to get MN because people occasionally talk shit on the internet. I mean, it's not as if that happens anywhere else... Hmm

SardineQueen · 17/03/2012 16:21

That is a really silly rule, onesunnymorning.

runningforthebusinheels · 17/03/2012 16:22

Why do you say statistics are not the truth, sigmund? You can use statistics to mislead, sure - lies, damned lies and statistics and all that. But, when the stats are used by the Gov, WHO, UN and those organisations that nyac listed, it is not the case.

droves · 17/03/2012 16:32

I really really want some Percy pigs now.

droves · 17/03/2012 16:35

Sigmund ...when did you get back on mn ? I thought you flounced in February ?

Smile
auschopper · 17/03/2012 16:35

Anyhow, tagging out of here now...

SigmundFraude · 17/03/2012 16:38

Statistics are not the truth running. They are a guage, at best. The Gov, WHO etc use them because they are the closest they'll get to actual facts. Statisticians concede that statistics are problematic.

People tend to accept statistics as truth, when clearly they aren't. There is a lot of information out there about the trouble with statistics, if you care to look.

SigmundFraude · 17/03/2012 16:38

I did flounce. I am zen now. Calm, collected, nice etc....

SigmundFraude · 17/03/2012 16:39

Good luck, aus.

droves · 17/03/2012 16:40

Glad you deflounced . Your posts are thought provoking .
