to really not identify with the feminist boards on here, when i always thought I was a feminist

seems so joyless and anti sex.

I feel very conflicted now. I always thought feminism was about equality for women, which I dont believe we have, but it seems to re\lly be focusing on the wrong issues for me, and getting too much into dynamics of personal relationships, and peoples sexual preferences

im probably being unreasonable

The ideal feminist board, wouldn't contain radical feminists, and would contain women who don't mind being called "joyless" or "anti-sex" or a "cult" and will hand round the welcoming tea and biscuits, whilst realising that misogyny should never be challenged.

For anybody who isn't aware, the feminist board started because a group of feminists here (some of whom were radical feminists) asked Mumsnet to set up the FWR board. It's not surprising that radical feminism is represented because that's partly where it sprang from.

DoomCatsofCognitiveDissonance · 11/03/2012 20:44

Please, quick, do keep telling people what feminists 'should' want.

I'm not sure about this 'assumption' the feminist board is unwelcoming - it's either people who have an axe to grind, or people who've had a bad experience and generalized from it.

I'm sad for those people and I'm sad if others reading end up worrying that the feminism board might be scary or shouty or shrill (or any of those other words that seem a little strange when applied to a written medium). But I don't quite why anyone would want to correct people who've already decided they're nasty.

I prefer to avoid people who make assumptions about me - it reflects worse on them than on me.

Beachcomber · 11/03/2012 20:44

Actually plumpdog it just has - but the post has been deleted.

But if your responses to posters are written on the basis that that might happen, or with your approach coloured by threads where that has happened, then arguably you're moving towards tarring posters who really would like to be included in genuine discussion with a troll brush.

Eh?

I'm sick of feminist bashing - I'm sick of seeing the same poster names joining in and egging on the bashing. That doesn't make those posters trolls.

The trolls do tend to show up and use these threads as a platform though. The last feminist bashing thread was started by a troll and there were loads of MN regulars egging the troll on.

ShirleyKnot · 11/03/2012 20:46

Rhinos, are you joking? You must be joking what with your other thread about reporting stuff to MNHQ in Site Stuff!

Lots of messages have been deleted Hmm

AyeRobot · 11/03/2012 20:47

The position from which a poster is coming will be validated on this thread, that's clear.

The answer is probably more feminism. Post more, change the balance if you're unhappy with it. We've tried the welcome threads and the chat threads and they were brilliant, but still didn't stop this type of thread.

Beachcomber · 11/03/2012 20:48

Well you can save your annoyance for someone else Rhino - I didn't report anything by you.

I reported stuff that I consider to break the Talk Guidelines - this is what I have been told to do time and time again by MNHQ when the subject of feminist bashing has come up. Perhaps you need to talk up the wrongness of censorship of your very important posts with MNHQ? They are the people who deleted you after all.

ShirleyKnot · 11/03/2012 20:51

You broke the guidelines Rhino and were deleted. I am gobsmacked that you're complaining about that in light of your recent complaints about others not following the guidelines!

rhino, obviously MNHQ disagrees with you. Take it up with them. Don't take it out on other posters when they are only following the guidelines, it is out of order.

And keeping on naming beach when she has said she didn't even report your posts (let alone delete them which as you should know is MNHQ's job), is out of line IMO.

QuickLookBusy · 11/03/2012 20:53

Of course a post about a victim being held responsible for a rape should be responded to robustly.

You are just all seem so defensive.

Anyone who has tried to give examples of their own experiences has been hounded on this thread.

Catgirl was hounded and then garlic was almost called a liar for stating she had been sent horrible PMs. Others said they had also recieved scary PMs. As they are "known feminists" no questions wwere asked.

Surely if you want changes to be made for women, you should be encouraging the majority of women to contribute/learn/discuss. That is NOT happening on MN.

Notthefullshilling · 11/03/2012 20:54

Stewie, you prove my point I was not and said three if not four times in the plainest language that I did not support prostitution, I raised an ethical and moral objection to the terminology that posters were applying to those who buy sex. I was also trying to engage people in aspects of sex work that were not being considerd by the discussion. I fully acknowledge that it is a tiny minority I was talking about but to me at least an important minority. If I was rude it was no worse than other people, or if you prefer see my rudeness as a manifestation of my frustration.

As for the disabled transport I gave up as it would seem that being truly accessible by providing transport for those with a physical or mental inability to cope with marching anywhere is now exactly the same as being pregnant, why not rub the nose of those disabled women who cannot get any sex, or have not the ability to have children in the shit a little more why don't you. See I am getting shouty now because as hard as I try people refuse to ask questions or seek knowledge they would rather jump down my throat.

Portofino · 11/03/2012 20:55

I don't have a problem. It's just that you talk VERY much about the rules, and reporting rather than commenting on thread. You want to BIG UP the censorship on MN, so to speak. But when you have YOUR post deleted, it's a case of "well how very dare they!"

ShirleyKnot · 11/03/2012 20:55

You only want the rules to work in your favour Rhinos, clearly. Well that's just tough. I got deleted on this thread as well, and as far as I remember I didn't personally attack anyone either.

Nyac · 11/03/2012 20:55

People who made claims about the FWR section have been asked to provide evidence. They haven't.

BasilRathbone · 11/03/2012 20:55

Look, people disagreeing with you, is not "hounding"

That's just it, though, Beachcomber... 'feminist bashing'? No, love, it aint necessarily so.
If posters are saying that they don't feel comfortable/welcome posting on FWR boards, how is that 'feminist bashing'?
peanut & sledgehammer much?
