to really not identify with the feminist boards on here, when i always thought I was a feminist

seems so joyless and anti sex.

I feel very conflicted now. I always thought feminism was about equality for women, which I dont believe we have, but it seems to re\lly be focusing on the wrong issues for me, and getting too much into dynamics of personal relationships, and peoples sexual preferences

im probably being unreasonable

Sorry to repeat but I just wanted to check with garlicbutter if she reported receiving hate mail and had the posters concerned banned.

This is a very very serious matter.

garlicbutter · 11/03/2012 17:34

It's history, Beach. Thank you for your concern :)

Beachcomber · 11/03/2012 17:46

TBH garlibutter I'm concerned because on a public forum like this one, I think we are all responsible for reporting hate mail, etc.

I presume you mean by saying that it is history that you did report it and the posters were dealt with by MNHQ?

Having said that, if it is history it seems a bit unfair to bring it up here as representative of the FWR section.

garlicbutter · 11/03/2012 17:51

Beach, I think I covered the reason why I brought it up and the mindset in which I did so. I don't feel it necessary to share whether I reported any of the posters or not.

garlicbutter · 11/03/2012 17:55

... as others have said, hate mail has emanated from posters on other MN boards as well. It so happens that's the only hate mail I've ever received (so far?!)

ItsNotUnusualToBe · 11/03/2012 17:56

You are being unreasonable. You must be misreading the feminist board if all you get from it is joylessness and anti-sex.

FWIW I used to like porn but then I became less ignorant about the issues.

ShirleyKnot · 11/03/2012 17:59

But garlic, that's a heavy accusation to level, I think people would be very concerned to discover that someone who could do such a thing could still be roaming the boards [hock]

Beachcomber · 11/03/2012 17:59

Yes, the point seemed to be to validate the idea that there are some nasty characters about the FWR section. In answer to your post I am asking for reassurance that these senders of hate mail have been dealt with.

As someone who posts in the FWR section, I'm concerned that I may be the victim of hate mail too. If you don't want to say if you reported the hate mail or not, that is fair enough - I will just have to hope that posters who send hate mail have been banned from MN. I can't imagine that HQ would tolerate anything like that though, and if it is bad enough for you to mention here, I imagine it was bad enough to report.

Gosh, I've reassured myself Smile.

flippinada · 11/03/2012 18:01

Hmmm, your post sounds pretty unpleasant to be honest garlicbutter. You're making a serious allegation that can't be proved or disproved.

Dustinthewind · 11/03/2012 18:02

Don't you believe her? Confused

flippinada · 11/03/2012 18:04

I agree Shirley and Beachcomber. Horrible to think someone who sends poison pen pms is still lurking about on MN, I have to say though, in all my time posting on here(years) I have never, ever had a nasty personal message or CAT.

I've had quite a few supportive and pleasant ones though.

DoomCatsofCognitiveDissonance · 11/03/2012 18:04

I don't think it's unpleasant and I don't think it can't be proved.

MNHQ can see all PMs that are sent. They will be able to ban the poster(s) concerned if they haven't already done so, and they can presumably let us know they've done so - I'll report this post and ask.

It's been done before when people had dodgy PMs (the banning, I mean).

DoomCatsofCognitiveDissonance · 11/03/2012 18:05

(Sorry: obviously, it's unpleasant to get an abusive PM. But not to mention it.)

ShirleyKnot · 11/03/2012 18:07

Huh Dust? Of course I believe her. People often say that they've been sent nasty PM's and I always say to report - and I actually think that abusive PM's are much worse than a slagging off on a thread.

You've got to be a proper creepy fucker to send someone a nasty PM.

So, I would hate to think that a regular on FWR would do that and it is actually a worry.

Dustinthewind · 11/03/2012 18:08

flippinada seems less sure.

Beachcomber · 11/03/2012 18:08

What is really worrying me is that it appears to have been more than one person - garlicbutter mentions 'members' plural. Could it have been an orchestrated group attack? I just hope this serious matter has been dealt with by MNHQ Sad.

flippinada · 11/03/2012 18:13

Oh blimey, I don't mean I don't believe it! I obviously didn't explain myself well.

I mean the suggestion that FWR is populated by the type who would do that kind of thing is unpleasant. What Shirley said.

DoomCatsofCognitiveDissonance · 11/03/2012 18:13

It's not like orchestrated group attacks and trolls pretending to be regulars don't happen - remember someone who posted as something like 'Dittony'? They got banned IIRC ... can anyone else remember (my memory is shaky).

ShirleyKnot · 11/03/2012 18:13

Fuck yeah Beach.

I'm racking my brains to think who would have done that and I'm quite upset actually. I lurk on FWR a lot and have learned so much and although no one "knows" me particularly on the Fem boards, I feel like I know everyone (er that sounds creepy) and im really shocked.

flippinada · 11/03/2012 18:14

I totally agree that aggressive PMs are nasty. I know it happens; I remember a poster getting banned for it.

ShirleyKnot · 11/03/2012 18:16

I've neve r been sent one though! I think I'm too scary. Grin

garlicbutter · 11/03/2012 18:19

Grin Shirley Grin

Archemedes · 11/03/2012 18:25

I'm not suprised this is a 400+ thread

I dont think people should let a few aggresive minorities spoil what is sometimes a good board, I go on there alot and not because I'm a fem, but because its an interesting chat.

there is a tendencie for cliqueyness which I think needs to stop
I left MN a year ago due a particularly nasty piece of work who was a staple of a certain chat board,I still go on it now.

TheBigJessie · 11/03/2012 18:26

On the plus side, the force of equality is much stronger here, than on other parenting forums.

I lurked on various ones, but here I stayed!

Beachcomber · 11/03/2012 18:27

Well I'm still worried about this - I mean imagine if someone who is in a vulnerable state were to get sent hate mail from this group of posters. I do wish garlicbutter felt she could reassure us that they have been banned. I'm impressed for her respect of privacy but there is no need to name names.
