I've never been over there, but am curious. It seems to get a fair bit of withering comment from users here. - 'you should put that on netmums' in response to a particularly inane or bigotted comment.

It is sometimes referred to as Nethuns - is that because they are a bit Nazi in their views?

The similar names amuse me though - it is like the Judean People's Front and the People's Front of Judea in the Life of Brian

Do you think people mainly do the huni and lolz because that is the norm on the site, rather than they actually use those words anywhere else?

Like, on here I us DH, Dsis etc, but I would not use those in real life or on any other forum or fb etc. So maybe it is not that all the people on NM says hun, but more that hun is the accepted thing to say on NM IYSWIM?

I still find the txt speak personally very irritating, but then I dont use the site so it doesnt' matter.

That said, there does seem to be a different viewpoint on many subjects, but again I wonder if it is herd mentality and some / many people post to fit in rather than what they think. I was pretty shocked that the overwhelming consensus on NM was it is fine for a small child to watch TrueBlood and that would not be the consensus view on MN, so there clearly is a difference.

ZonkedOut · 11/03/2012 11:13

It's a different site, different strengths and weaknesses. I joined a due in club over there, though didn't like being collectively referred to as "Yummy Mummies". And I don't really go there much any more, AIBU takes up my spare time!

I'm with pagwatch, live and let live.

ZonkedOut · 11/03/2012 11:16

Oh yes, and the incessant tickers put me off too, I don't really want to know how long someone has been breastfeeding for, when they're due to ovulate or how long it is 'til their PFB's next birthday.

TotemPole · 11/03/2012 11:53

catgirl, I was shocked too. At first I thought it was a joke and the replies were joking along. Later when the OP defends herself by saying she fast forwards through the sex scenes, it does make it sound genuine.Confused

A large part of it is about sex and what's left is mainly gore, violence & drug references.

More of the later replies are saying it isn't ok.

Come on admit, who signed up just to comment. Who's Sonia?Grin

CappyHunt · 11/03/2012 11:57

Meh.

Go on one. Go on t'other. Go on both. Who cares.

bronze · 11/03/2012 12:11

I'm really tempted to find a load of old insults and go and use them all

"Thou whoreson zed, thou unnecessary letter"

What do you mean I can't say that, it's Shakespeare doncha know hun

but I won't because I refuse to join

bronze · 11/03/2012 12:12

A wholesome jackanapes must take me up for swearing, as if I borrowed mine oaths of him

gaveitago · 11/03/2012 12:41

Have any of you tried Parentdish, apparently it has a higher following than Mumsnet and they eat much naicer ham.

BrianCoxHasScaryHair · 11/03/2012 12:52

Ah but Pagwatch and Hecate - this thread isn't serious (is it?)

Or at least last night it was done with tongue firmly in cheek.

I genuinely can't stand the 'hun, bab' lingo and the tickers but each to their own.

It's just groups of people innit - some you get on well with, some you would rather avoid.

I do like the Judean People's Front / People's Front of Judea comparison Grin

I don't agree with invading other sites, no matter how extreme we as a collective may feel their views are. It's ok to talk about each other though, in a light-hearted banter way.

Pagwatch · 11/03/2012 14:33

Fair enough Brian Smile

It's just in the past the tendency has been for the 'them and us' threads to poodle along in a joshy vein until someone links it.

I am old and wizened. They tend to get arsy. I am happy to be wrong.

Isn't in the nature of any group forming to define themselves against the other?

Bolsheviks v Mensheviks
Protestants v Catholics
Israelis v Palestinians
UK v France
Mumsnet v Netmums

Pagwatch · 11/03/2012 14:55

Probably. But most intelligent Catholics don't hate Protestant because of such shite. Most intelligent English people don't hate French people because of such shite...etc etc etc.

If you post on here sneery stuff about the French, I would think you were thick and a bit of an arse.

We all align ourselves. It is just whether you do that privately or in a 'let's go over there and shout rude things at them' way.

Pagwatch · 11/03/2012 14:57

Besides I think a UN mediation might make some headway in Palestine......

BrianCoxHasScaryHair · 11/03/2012 14:58

Ah, sorry, haven't been around long enough to have witnessed previous fallouts (or if I have I've never paid attention....Confused )

:)

Shock at 'Israelis v Palestinians' comparison......it's not that bad. More of a 'Oasis vs Blur' or 'Stones vs Beatles' surely??

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 11/03/2012 15:07

DOn't Netmums shop in Netto and Mumsmnet in Waitrose? Or is it the other way round? :)

lesley33 · 11/03/2012 15:09

Of course being sneery about netsmum isn't on. It does seem much gentler and some would find that much more supportive than here. And there are times when we can all do with support.

I think the difference is that over here you do get somedaft posters as well, but they are clearly told they are daft and challenged. There, from what I read, anyone challenging even nicely can get told they are rude. If the culture is not really to challenge, then it does give free rein to the more idiotic posters - and sadly reinforces their views.

I shop at Aldi (before it became popular with you Waitrose loving, middle-class bunch o'bastards)

Oh and Iceland....although in my defense, I don't have a car and they do free delivery (you have to go into shop, do your own shopping and then pay at til - then chose your slot and bobs your uncle!!!) Oh and the stuff they sell isn't all bad....with a few exceptions to the rule.

I had to laugh as I was walking up and down the aisles on Friday - Chicken Tikka Lasagne, I nearly vomitted when I spotted that delight!! I mean WHY!???

Chicken, Tikka, Pasta and cheese......

WHHHHHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY???

MoreBeta · 11/03/2012 15:16

This is the absolutley true.

I only ended up on MN because I accidentally typed the wrong web address in. For two weeks I believed I was on NetMums when I was actually on MumsNet. Its an easy mistake to make. Blush

I did eventually go on NetMums one day out of curiosity. Gawd.... the twinkly pinky flourescent brightness of it made my eyes ache.

Ten minutes was enough. Shock Grin

BrianCoxHasScaryHair · 11/03/2012 15:17

oh lord, that recollection hasn't helped my hangover
