AIBU to wonder what the diffetence is between Mumsnet & Netmums is?

I've never been over there, but am curious. It seems to get a fair bit of withering comment from users here. - 'you should put that on netmums' in response to a particularly inane or bigotted comment.

It is sometimes referred to as Nethuns - is that because they are a bit Nazi in their views?

The similar names amuse me though - it is like the Judean People's Front and the People's Front of Judea in the Life of Brian

I used to post on a forum where people over loaded their fucking posts with tickers.

Some had the countdown to their next shit and then a colour chart to describe it! Ok they didn't but they might of well have done

Then there was the constant use of the word 'hun' accompanied by fucking brackets!!! (((Hugs hun)))

I think, having only had a cursory look, that you really have to be a mum to want to spend much time on Netmums. Whereas it's pretty easy to bypass the whole parenting aspect of Mumsnet if you want, in favour of discussions about nice ham, dog poo and wedding list poetry.

Occasionally mnetters link to sites like Bounty and Emma's Diary ~~shudder~~

Bloody hell it appears as if you can not only have tickers, but write smug self evaluations to tell everyone how fabulous a mummy you are - think of all the contentious issues, this vs that, those that always pop up and then chose the right combination!

All the IDs are real names. Is that compulsory, do they do some sort of identity check?

Before I discovered Mumsnet, I was in limbo.

I'd been at one, lovely fab site....BBC (well, we had bunfights but the years add a certain tint of rose to the memories) and was at a loss, I felt I'd outgrown the message boards there and needed somewhere else to go.

I signed up to another place (no idea where/what) and it was COMPULSORY to have your RL name . So, naive me signs up with a pretend name, but being me, wants to be honest and upfront - so I say "HI, I'm new, this isn't my real name but hopefully when I get to know you all well, I can NC"

Yeah, that was my first and last post - they called me a troll, accused me of having something to hide and I eventually ended up with a PM from their HQ apologising, but asking if I could use my 'real name'.

Funny thing was, when I originally joined the BBC boards back in 2004, we all used our real first names anyway! It was only as the boards became more popular that we NC'd.

Choose an amusing name or a pseudonym, they don't check.

I'm new-ish on MN... after all the fuss in the papers etc I thought I'd give it a go and joined nethuns by mistake, so crap,i thought that the collective powers of government/media had lost their senses... then I finally found the correct place what a relief!

I'm on both.

I lurked here for about a year,then on one of my numerous bans on NMs,I joined up here.

Have to admit,I am more at home here than there. Having said that,there are a couple of like minded people to me over there,which is why I stay a suppose.

I have no tickers nor do I use 'hun' or 'gawjuss'
