Or am I just too old

OP posts:
lovingthecoast · 02/03/2012 12:27

The problem we have now is that lots of genuine htreads are doubted. Sometimes way out stuff happens to people in real life but there's so much crap on here that they get disbelieved.

I've been here for about 8yrs. I wonder if posters such as Kateandthegirls who posted about losing her DH on 9/11 would be believed today. She was completely genuine but if she posted today I'm sure she'd be called a troll.

lovingthecoast · 02/03/2012 12:33

Latara, I posted around Nov time asking if I was being offensive for describing a HV as black. One HV had suggested to me it was offensive when I referred to another (big team only one black lady) as 'the tall black HV'. I was genuinely open to being told I was offensive if I was but felt it reasonable to use a physical characteristic to describe someone. I guess lots of posters may have thought I was trolling but the thread wasnt sensational. Quite dull probably after my initial post as no extra juicy details to add.

Does anyone else think its time we separated the trolls into two groups with separate names? Maybe leave the harmless ones as trolls but have a more meaningful moniker for the nasty lowlife scum ones.

Seems a shame that they are all labelled the same way is all.

Latara · 02/03/2012 13:13

Loving; i do remember your post & found it interesting, IMO u weren't being offensive / stirring at all.

The threads i'm referring to are where the OP uses a very offensive outdated word / phrase 'innocently', in order to start pages of debate. Eg: the current AIBU thread using the word 'coloured'.

Lesley - 'poo-stirrer' is a polite way of saying 'shit-stirrer'. Aka troublemaker. The only literal 'poo-stirrer' i know is my cat who likes to gain attention from visitors by digging noisily in her litter tray. She never does it any other time of course.

lovingthecoast · 02/03/2012 13:14

Maybe, Maryz! I guess that was probably why my thread about the run in with the HV was so dull; because i laid out all the fact in my OP. It got quite a few responses but died out naturally the following day because there was nothing more for me to add.

I have posted a few times making reference to my mother who was killed by a drunk driver but strangely I have never started a thread about it either at the time or since. Although Im open about it, the thought of laying every detail bare horrifies me. So because I feel like that, when I read a thread where someone is doing just that, often quite soon after the event, I'm always a bit wary-unless of course, they are posting in bereavment.

I know we had a 'bereavement toll' last year sometime. In 8yrs of Mnetting, that probably shocked me more than anything else.

lesley33 · 02/03/2012 13:17

Latara - Sorry I know what a poo-stirrer is. It was a (feeble) joke Blush

Oh I need a link now :(

iCANdothisiCAN · 02/03/2012 14:10

I'm actually sort of enjoying some of it (not the bloody "I'm safe" girl obviously) but some of the totally ridiculous ones are very entertaining!

I used to be a properly quiet lurker, rarely said boo to a goose, the last few days I've been hitting the report button with gay abandon! T'is liberating I tell you!

(disclaimer - I'm sure loads of people thought I was a troll when I had my little catastrophe so thank you to those who didn't!)

I do get rather frustrated with posters' lack of boundaries - it's all 'OMG are you OK?', 'Where are you OP?', 'PM me if you need help, etc'. Now maybe I am lacking in empathy, but it all feels a bit OTT for some random on the internet.

lesley33 · 02/03/2012 14:37

I feel the same sometimes

iCANdothisiCAN · 02/03/2012 14:38

In all seriousness though the one alluded to earlier is really upsetting me now.

I've reported it several times so I know I can't actually "do" any more but it's turned into some sort of gory soap opera. Everyone's asking for updates, "dreading" why the op hasn't come back, bumping it to stay in active convos (although why that would do anything I've no idea), it's bloody horrible.

AAAAARRRRGGGHH!!!

That's better, as you were!

We need the nice innocent trolls back don't we.
Like the Dan Snow boss one or Beesimo's sagas of life in the country.

that's the thing maryz it's the poor saps she's sucked in.

Some people on there have shared some really heart-breaking stuff and s/he's just lapping it up. It's making me so bloody angry.

Wish I'd never graduated from pinot's bench now, I liked it there!

FiteFuaite · 02/03/2012 14:56

Omg,Lissieloo!! I remember all that Emma Bowyer/Rachel Hale/Pixie 'Big Mother' 1902!!

That was my first experience of trolling :(
