In the dry cleaners this morning. Perfectly pleasant young man serving - he was polite and everything. His t-shirt said "Doggy style. The bitches love me". Why is this ok? It isn't ok. I'm pissed off.

Maybe it's there to get rid of crap customers, on the logic that those who would be offended by it are the same people who have sufficient time on their hands to whinge about lots of other stuff.

freudisfrozen · 26/02/2012 14:03

Not acceptable ever and his just sums up what is wrong with society today. T-shirts like this should not be viewed as 'normal' and people who oject to them as uptight. Would you be happy if your granny saw this?
If people think this is acceptable then their standards are low and they need to be looking at setting their morality bar a bit higher.

cherrytopping · 26/02/2012 14:07

my granny refers to 'darkies' still unfortunately. i have no problem with her seeing the tshirt. I know which thing i would rather waste my time educating the ignorant on.

catgirl1976 · 26/02/2012 14:12

I know what my granny would say

She'd say

"You'll never get a girlfriend like that you know"

And then she'd shake her head and wander off feeling a bit sorry for him and perhaps saying he was soft in the head. She wouldn't for one minute feel sorry for herself or women as a whole as she wouldn't for a minute believe the t-shirt of a "daft apeth" could affect them.

fabwoman · 26/02/2012 14:17

Maybe it would be fairer if there was a woman's equivalent tshirt. Mind you, a lot of women wouldn't want to wear such rubbish.

SardineQueen · 26/02/2012 14:18

I think a lot of elderly people would be quite upset to see the word "bitches" and references to sexual positions while they are out doing their shopping, surely?

Of course it is inappropriate attire for a customer facing role Hmm I can't believe that anyone thinks it is fine!

As for who will not blink at this - teenage boys and some mothers on MN find this a completely inoffensive tee-shirt. Lots of other bunches of people don't like it. When I was a teenage girl say 12 or 13 I would have been mortified to be confronted by a bloke wearing that, how embarassing.

I don't think that references to sexual positions and saying women are bitches is OK for wearing in public really, and certainly not in a customer facing job.

SardineQueen · 26/02/2012 14:20

Let's see
If all of the women working in your high street bank were wearing t-shirts saying "I'm a bitch fuck me like a bitch" would people not notice?

seeker · 26/02/2012 14:27

How about all womwn wear a t shirt saying "all Men are Rapists and Paedophiles"

Take a joke, fellas!

SardineQueen · 26/02/2012 14:27

Not very snappy that. will try and think of some more.

Would people be unphased at people on the till in boots wearing sexually explicit slogans? Which used the word "bitch" for women?

seeker · 26/02/2012 14:28

Womwn was a typo, not a feminist statement!

SardineQueen · 26/02/2012 14:28

"Stop fucking staring at me you creepy bastard"

That one would have been handy when I was young Grin

SardineQueen · 26/02/2012 14:29

One for schoolgirls

"I'm underage you fuckwit now piss off before I call the police"

Grin
sunshinenanny · 26/02/2012 14:35

Not suitable work wear. I'm surprised this young mans employer hasn't told him so and no,you are not wrong to be offended. It's disrespectful to the customers.

And I am not a prude or easily shocked was just brought up to believe there is a time and a place for everything; This is innapropriate.

SardineQueen · 26/02/2012 14:39

Maybe he was runnning the shop single-handed that day if its a small business.

catgirl1976 · 26/02/2012 14:41

I think that's likely sq - I can't imagine the owners would knowlingly let him wear that to serve customers

verityverbiage · 26/02/2012 14:42

The obvious answer is not to use the shop again.

Complain to his employer and he might lose his job.

Which would be harsh.

I don't see the humour in the t shirts but there again i'm not young anymore.

grumpypants · 26/02/2012 14:57

What is the female equivalent? 'Cowgirl. The studs love me.' ?Not sure i'd wear that to work.

grumpypants · 26/02/2012 14:58

Missionary. Vicars love me?

grumpypants · 26/02/2012 14:58

I shall set up a tshirt printing business soon.

SardineQueen · 26/02/2012 14:58

Not quite the same connotations though. Bitch and stud aren't equivalent.

GoingForGoalWeight · 26/02/2012 15:03

It is sexist, bad taste. The twat.

startail · 26/02/2012 15:04

Sorry, that's just wrong. Offensive T shirts in the pub serve as a warning the wearer is an arse.
Worn to work they are simply unacceptable.
That one and the FCUK ones are particularly annoying because relatively young DC know those are bad words they are not allowed to use.
At least some quoted here are clever, that isn't it's just offensive.

grumpypants · 26/02/2012 15:06

sq - i agree, was trying to think about the equivalent. i think my post further up clarifies my 'totally unacceptable, sexist society' status.

bobbledunk · 26/02/2012 15:06

yabu to have nothing better to do with your time than be offended by someone's t shirt.

Everything is offensive to somebody, I'm sure many religious people would be offended by what they would consider your immodest dress, others will be offended by them covering up too much. Offense is a choice, there are plenty of things which people should be offended by; homelessness, poverty, violence, corruption, war. Other people's clothing shouldn't even be on your radar.

Mind your own business, if you want to poke your nose into other people's, at least have the decency to choose something worthwhile.

mayorquimby · 26/02/2012 15:09

Not suitable for work wear imo, but if his employers happy to let him wear it then that's their call.
As others have said, I find most supposedly "funny" t-shirts just highlight to strangers that you have no sense of humour and are probably quite boring.
Same way I see "baby on board" stickers as twat indicators.
