In the dry cleaners this morning. Perfectly pleasant young man serving - he was polite and everything. His t-shirt said "Doggy style. The bitches love me". Why is this ok? It isn't ok. I'm pissed off.

OP posts:
MardyBra · 26/02/2012 10:30

X post with Rosmarin who said it more eloquently than me!

LiamsMummyJaz · 26/02/2012 11:30

My dog is a bitch. An animal just like us. Not that bothered tbh. And you do realise t-shirts like this are only there to wind people up who have sod all else better to whinge about!

RunnyGrobbles · 26/02/2012 11:32

However, it's interesting to note that "doggy style" is a position where the man is in a more dominant position.

Is it??

LiamsMummyJaz · 26/02/2012 11:32

Sorry of I'm being short. Having a shit day to end a shit week and something this trivial is just Angry

ArtVandelay · 26/02/2012 11:38

Its not trivial. Its actually very important - read what Mardy wrote. Its not about a T-shirt its about insiduous woman hating and that affects us all negatively. I'm sorry you are having a bad week but stop trying to ridicule people for wanting to stick up for themselves.

LiamsMummyJaz · 26/02/2012 11:45

Really?! It's was a lad in a t-shirt! If someone said take it of he probably would have done! It is trivial! When I was younger loads of girls used to have a t-shirt saying 'I'm not a bitch, I'm the bitch & that's miss bitch to you' I can't remember anyone being shocked about it. I just think there are way way way bigger things to worry about. I do agree that they should not be worn in a working environment but anywhere else it's the wearers prerogative!

southeastastra · 26/02/2012 11:48

only read op - of course it's offensive especially for work

cocolepew · 26/02/2012 11:49

It is offensive, I'm saddened by so many women apparently happy to be referred to as a bitch.

cherrytopping · 26/02/2012 11:51

I'm not sure an adolescent boy in a silly t-shirt could "put women in their place".

I think it rather firmly announces his place though and at least will save any number of girls wasting time on him before finding out how immature he is

^ this. Its public service advertising. To me the tshirt reads "I am an immature knob".

ArtVandelay · 26/02/2012 12:05

Thats also true Cherry :) See, sexism damages everyone, not just women.

HedleyLamarr · 26/02/2012 12:33

It's not a shirt I would wear tbh, as I don't think of or call women bitches. I would take a dim view of DS wearing it too, not that I think he would.

As for the 'liquor in the front' shirt, a friend of mine has that on a t-shirt. She's an out and proud lesbian. The first time I saw her in it I was a bit Hmm. Especially as she's usually very dapper.

slowestwildebeast · 26/02/2012 12:54

I'm all for doggy style, and the t-shirt doesn't offend, I wouldn't bat an eyelid. And for those people who say they'd make their child read it out and try and humiliate him, then you're quite odd. Move on with your life, as if a political point needs to be made. Good god.

GothAnneGeddes · 26/02/2012 13:05

No one's answered the question yet: would you all think it was so trivial if it was a racist Tshirt?

catgirl1976 · 26/02/2012 13:09

I am trying to think of an equivalent slogan

I guess if it said "Niggaz love me" or something I would still think it was clearly being worn by an idiot and not suitable for wearing in a customer facing role. I dont think it owuld be unreasonable to complain to the management / wearer in either instance

So I think I would feel pretty much the same.

seeker · 26/02/2012 13:15

Ok. I'm going out tomorrow in my "My mum says i'm special because I ride the short bus" t shirt.

Then the next day "Blacks Go Home"

I'm sure that'll be fine- anyone who objects obviously has too much time on their hands and no sense of humour.

thirdfromleft · 26/02/2012 13:17

YANBU to object to it. Hell,I object to stuff all the time. I object to my neighbour's dog yapping. I object to my other neighbour's 4x4 taking up half the street. I object to my SIL's high-pitched laugh.

Doesnt mean I can do anything about it.

southeastastra · 26/02/2012 13:18

but you can do something about it - post on here :S

seeker · 26/02/2012 13:23

Why on earth do women have to accept crap just because they think people won't like them if they complain? You see it all the time- women biting their tongues or laughing in a faintly hysterical manner because their menfolk are being dicks.

catgirl1976 · 26/02/2012 13:25

Seeker if I saw you wearing either of those t-shirts, I would think you an idiot.

If you wearing them in a workplace, I would complain to the management

What else would you have people do? Chase you down the street with burning pitchforks?

sonicrainboom · 26/02/2012 13:32

And for those people who say they'd make their child read it out and try and humiliate him, then you're quite odd

Why? He is wearing it in public, on the job. Children can read it. Why not aloud? If he can't handle that, he shouldn't wear it.

seeker · 26/02/2012 13:32

Good- complaining to the management is the right thing to do. But on this thread, the majority seems to be in favour of telling the disabled person or the black person to "suck it up".

BearlyThere · 26/02/2012 13:34

It's shir bit "oh my dd might see it"
Lol at preciousness

seeker · 26/02/2012 13:35

We've got a long way to go, sisters.

lambethlil · 26/02/2012 13:37

thirdfromleft, but you can do something about things like this- the Tshirt.

If I had been a parent at the Parent's Evening where the man was wearing the Pussies shirt, I'd have said something.

The other examples, yes not so obvious, but in the past my neighbour told us our dog barked when left alone- we sorted it, didn't fall out and I've spoken to people about parking, engines running etc.

SIL's irritating laugh you just have to suck up though Grin

fraiserno · 26/02/2012 13:43

OP YADNBU
Is it possible he was trying to loose his job?
Is it possible he was trying to help ensure anyone not of the same stupid way of thinking would know to avoid him?
I certainly would not have done business with them and would have left and would have been grateful to have been forewarned as to the type of person in that place/on the street.
